People have to remember the era that the R32GTR came out in, add to that the other cars running around at the time, the 300ZX, Supra, GTO, FD RX7 and NSX where as much a product of the super strong Japanese Yen as they where at the time cutting edge 'super cars'. Because the companies where just rolling in cash and there was massive amounts of money to be sunk into R&D, the good times where on and with a leading technology base to back it all up, you just ended up with all these cars which still shine today. That late 80's and early 90's was something of a new wave in the automotive industry and it dropped off along with the value of the yen by the late 90's and it's easy to see how things didn't really go anywhere for quite some time. I mean just look at the engines for starters, lot of these where in service for a phenomenally long time considering they where in production performance cars. All your RB26's, SR20DET's, 13B's, 1JZ, 2JZ, 6G platform, etc, etc have been floating around for the better part of close to 20years with only a few little bits of bolt on technology along the way. It's a credit to the original designs that they where still being used for so long, however the sad part of that is the fact that they also stayed in service because there wasn't the money to develop a lot else. As much as we sometimes loathe Renault, they really did drag Nissan's arse out of the fire, the company before that produced some awesome cars but they where going broke and the others where not exactly faring that great either, so they went back to making a lot of cars which where nowhere near as awe inspiring (good cars yes, but not a revolution) for the simple fact it takes a lot of money to make a car like that and what makes them the money is all these dull as shit family cars. There is a distinct rumbling though from the Japanese car industry which I think is going to herald a 'second wave' so to speak. The EVO, WRX and this new GTR are going to start something again as the economy is beginning to shape up after a bit of a beating, give it maybe another 3-4 years and I wouldn't doubt if such a revolution might come around again with some serious Jap iron rolling off the production lines.

Don't worry, MK always gets pulled over as cops go- "Skyline, Skyline, Skyline, commodore going sideways past us, Skyline... fat red thing with twin pipes that we've got NFI what it is but we're sure he's doing something bad!" "BOOK IT!" WHIIIIIRRRRR!

I'll pop along to say g'day, don't know if I'll make it out to Newport as I'll have been awake for close to 20hrs! (At least the fat ho will make R33's look like anorexics hehe) This carpark's the one which you turn left into the big DJ's down at the Nerindah St lights isn't it?

Poor bloke Just a FYI, you can get these neat tyre irons for about $25 from most retail car stores that are a bit over a foot long, extend and lock out to a bit over 2ft long which are really handy for budging stupid nuts.
-
They do, mostly ending up in Maitland or Raymond Terrace getting drunk in some rural pub, punching the shit out of the locals for fun and amusement... and the other way around as the hicks stumble into town and end up doing the same. It's entertaining to watch.

Put kill switches under the carpet somewhere, preferably where it's not going to stand out as a lump and anyone looking at you starting the car isn't going to think you're up to anything unusual. Ultimately there isn't any real way of stopping someone from stealing something they really want, however the longer you delay them, the more panicking and chance they'll bail if look like they're going to get caught, 'cause the only thing they really don't want is to be pounded in prison more than your car. I'm starting work on an internal screamer system, once it's worked out I'll chuck it in the fabrication forum. I'm aiming for 150db and under $200 with it's own backup battery... yeah, I want permanent injuries from this bitch

Oh I have, anything make the fat 'ho harder to move. If you're interested in getting a compiled list of cars that get nicked from the Maq centre if I'll consider trying to pass that on to coppers I know, because if they're nicking skylines, chances are the regular kind of 80's and 90's domestic beaters are getting flogged wholesale. Give us an idea of- Level it's parked on Security features, are they just regular alarm, no alarm, clublock or are they capable of carving through the high end 3pt immobilisers + alarm? Time between taken Model of car, doesn't have to be a skyline Don't promise a result, but I can try to have someone higher up see it. Because if we can determine roughly that it's organised crime with professionals that can get through anything you put in a car, it'll get a lot more attention than random top bloke kids nicking cars for giggles because someone didn't put much of an alarm in.

Pros & Cons For R32, Z32 & S13. Any Help?
MK2 replied to 2TONED's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I spent many months looking for a good R32 GTR, you'll find plenty of cheap ones and with only a couple of exceptions, all fairly bloody terrible, some of the R33's are comparable in price and in a bit better condition. If you where just going to use it as a daily driver the R34GTT is a great car, sure it's not got all the fun-factor of a GTR (and a lot less upkeep) but they are worth considering if your budget goes to about 22-25k. 300Z's are also a nice car and they tend to lead less molested lives than GTR's and S13's, they go, stop and handle just fine. Stay away from targas, all the reasons mentioned, plus I'll add that the bastards leak when the rubbers and plastic gets a bit old. Working on them could be best described as 'knuckle raping agony', much like my 'ho is... S13's, I just sold a nice one with a leather interior which made it look a lot nicer than the stock and all things considered over the years she never did me wrong... until I started f**king with it But they're cheap to work on, solid 5speed, SR20DET takes more harassment, mods and molestation than any 4cylinder I care to have ever been involved with and theres a crapload of really easy to get mods for them. I'd highly recommend it if you're new to modifying cars as they're fairly uncomplicated beasts. Though, if you're spending a bit more (14-24k), the S14A and S15 Silvia's are also fairly cheap and have a lot more refined feel to them on the road. -
I think I'd be ashamed of anyone I knew buying this

I think there's a case for discrimination. Article 26 All persons are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to the equal protection of the law. In this respect, the law shall prohibit any discrimination and guarantee to all persons equal and effective protection against discrimination on any ground such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights ...when you are targeted for simply owning something which is the target of specific laws is as much an act of discrimination as 'looking like you're up to no good' Now, while the UN charter is broad and not entirely specific about targeting people owning cars, it does have a fundamental human rights basis. Because I don't doubt it will be abused, publicly and people will lose property simply on the subjective opinion of police officers just so politicians can look like they're doing something useful aside from wasting our rates on private roads and tunnels. They want this to work, having committed themselves this far, to back down will look like they're (the politicians) weak and ineffective, just as the counter terrorism laws end up failing time and time again. Officers are told to make it work to make it look like there is a real danger so it won't be seen as a waste of taxpayers money. They won't be particularly fussy about who gets squashed. Alls said and done, I'm very non-political (I think most politicians are c**ts regardless of party) and I don't endorse speeding or racing around on public roads where there's a threat to public safety. But I see a lot of people getting very hard done by when they're unable to front up money in court to defend themselves properly against horseshit charges simply because the cop decided to not like them/had a bad day or just doesn't like the type of car they drive. Or worse yet, when they're told specifically- "take this kind of property off the roads, an example needs to be made." -

Odds Of Getting Pulled Over In A Stagea?
MK2 replied to R33GTS25's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Yeah, basically in the last 7-8years of driving grey imports I have much the same story. If you're not being a knob (excessive speeding, burnouts), hanging out in spots where the police go specifically to book people (because they know you'll be there) and have P-plates (they love you guys, assume the worst), chances are you won't get bothered.... much. Should be alright in a Stagea, having a milo tin for an exhaust and 20" rims probably wouldn't help the cause though. -
Bodywork and interior There are general requirements concerning alterations to the bodywork: No alteration may cause a hazard to persons due to exposed sharp edges or projections; and No alteration may cause a reduction in the level of safety or overall strength of the vehicle. and- Front structure Where ADR 10B, 10/00 or 10/01 applies, the front of the vehicle is sometimes designed to crush on impact to absorb crash forces. Any structural modifications in this area should only be made on the advice of an engineering signatory experienced in body and chassis structures RTA NSW- PDF of light vehicle modification guidelines Basically, if you can get the engineer to sign off on it, then it's legal, if they won't, it ain't legal.

How Long Does Compliance Take?
MK2 replied to timheather's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
15days for me, which I can live with as for about half that I'm at work anyway and can fritter away the time figuring out things I want to molest it with. -
The shop gave me a skyline while the ho' is going through compliancing You can't hate free! Actually I like them because I grew up watching them in the 80's and 90's in races.
-
Most of the SR20DET's are roughly about the same too, give or take a half a litre. It sort of defeats the purpose of such engines keeping them off some sort of boost all the time and you may as well just buy a Commodore, Camry or equivalent in vehicular whitegoods and a bowls hat for the rear parcel shelf.
-
And we'll be doing our best once we get our hands on them to remove it all and replace it with tree killing, panda raping and whale slaying wholesome modified fun! Aaaaaraaaaarh!
-
I've seen R32 rear lights crammed into a 180sx, complete custom fabrication which shouldn't be too hard if you're handy and have nothing better to do. There's also been at least 1 fairly good attempt chucking an R32 front end on an S13 chassis which worked alright, so that can be done. As for the rear, theres nothing off the shelf which I can think of to make this easy, about the only thing that 'may' work is an R32 widebody kit with a fairly humongous amount of fiddling put into the anchor points where it bolts on. Bumper would be much the same case, modified bit of aftermarket kit. I sort of shudder to think of the amount of bog and glass it'll require to hide the gaps... then, being a drift car, it's gunna get f**ken smashed into something sideways and yep, well, kinda rich to fix.

Recommended Full Exhausts Or Exhaust Shops For Rb25dets (r34)
MK2 replied to vidospace's topic in New South Wales
+1, great work from them, highly recomend -
I wish my life was so simple and cheap that I could go to work polishing Ferrari's (Oh to find something like this when I was 25!) But it isn't, it's expensive and shitty So I work in telco's and tell my family I dig holes for a living to hide the shame (that and it'll get me out of "fix my phone/computer" shit questions)

Friends Car, Jacked At Chipping Norton And Bashed..
MK2 replied to siddr20's topic in New South Wales
I've seen this car a few months ago somewhere, so I kind of remember it being a nice looking honda, will keep eyes peeled, condolances for your friend and hope he gets well soon. (yeah, bugger selling my car, I'll take the rape in the wallet trade in cheers ) -
Maq Park, North Ryde are usually alright up until school holidays and then the "great unwashed filth" comes out of the woodwork looking for something to do, which is normally to get drunk, stoned, root, beat each other up, ride minibikes on the roads and steal shit. Or they just invite their 'mates' from other suburbs (usually Marsfield or down south) to come over and start something, I don't really see this as being all that much different to the rest of northern Sydney, just personally irritating because I live and work here. Chatswood, DeeWhy, Roseville, all those suburbs I used to live in where just as annoying in their own way with 'doods' up to no good. Aside from guages and a stereo going missing (in-out-gone in 120sec <- I shit you not) no one seems to want to pick on this particular IT nerd

A pillars in late model commo's, along with their rear visibility is just awful. Side visibility in late model falcons is just utter crap unless you're about 5'9 I reckon might be pushing the love there. European cars, list is just kind of too long, essentially I like their (french) suspension setups, their (german) engines and their (italian) visual design. But you don't seem to quite get all 3 in the one car unless there's some kind of formidable amount of money I just don't have and they are the quintessential 'overpriced shit' of the car world. Jap cars you sort of get the nice bits of all the euro cars they beg, borrow and steal and make it all work nicely... then they assemble it to look 9 x out of 10 like a f**king lego set and have 5 year olds do the colour schemes which could only really be described as 'nasty', I've often wondered if there was a higher percentage of colour blindness in Japan than anywhere else... it may explain a few things. Yank cars. Do to cars what they do to hamburgers with McDonalds. Korea... people tell me they make them better these days. Thats nice, the biggest problem I have is the worry that fish may be poisoned using them as boat anchors.
