Nissan May Reintroduce Infiniti

So, as a government, what do you do? protecting our domestic industries keeps australians employed. But on the other hand, insulating said same industries from global influence keeps the product they produce 10 years behind europe and japan, to the detriment of the australian consumer. most of the falcodore-buying gastropods seem to be able to deal with this, but thats only cos they don't know any better... *sigh* -
There are plans for similar systems to this all over the net to run a car on water... the technology is available and the process is rock-solid and any car can be run on it. (yes turbo too) The two main problems, (other than OPEC hunting you down and killing you and everyone you ever met) Are that burning hydrogen + oxygen turns it back into water... which makes conventional engines and exhausts rust. (hence most of these systems run 15% petrol to avoid the problem) The other issue is nobody is actually manufacturing a "kit" as such to convert your car to H2 power. Anyone that has done it has done so completely at their own expense. (a relatively expensive capital outlay, although being able to run you car for FREE forEVER I think it would pay for itself) Free energy is one of my passions by the way... I've been waiting for someone to kick off a thread like this... A mate and I have a project suzuki swift running on 85% ethanol 15% pump unleaded... or 95% with avgas (shhhh don't tell anyone) And our next crazy scheme is a all-alloy rover V8 running a water fuelled hydrogen-on-demand system. Hydrogen is the future... think about it... free fuel. FREE. Can you imagine whats going to happen when Big Oil and governments can no longer keep these new technologies suppressed? for one, my constant anguish over being an environmentalist and a car enthusiast will be allieviated.... <end rant> I can talk for days about this if anyones genuinely interested...

Hmmm... open the floodgates to imports and no-one will buy our second-rate domestic product... 10000 VB drinking hairy-knuckled assembly line workers out of a job and little johnny doesn't get re-elected. Boo hoo. -

Because they have two generations of misguided and media manipulated forefathers influencing their mindset... you gotta remember that the whole australian motor industry relies on its motorsport links to keep its brand loyalty strong... hence the exclusion of imported vehicles from grpA touring. our local product is woefully backward in terms of engineering and refinement compared to the rest of the world... Which is also why the government will never allow free importation of vehicles on a large scale, our industry would die in its arse cos we just can't build a comparitively decent car. -

You can't turn off all the "driver assist" electronics... traction control etc... no fun really... imagine drifting that big bastard...

Hmmm... perhaps then I should talk to you more about finding a fully worked motor and frieghting it over here...

having driven/owned every model toyota known to mankind, I can tell you this much: it will not break down, ever. Nor will it be a rewarding or exciting driving experience, ever. As you said, they're a rebodied camry, and the camry was never designed to be a sportscar... and the celica was marketed primarily at female drivers who wanted a nice reliable car with a slightly sporty image. (hairdressers) I bought one of these a few years ago (wrc edition) off an old lady... sold it to a young girl with big sunglasses and purple bits in her hair... Get an mr2...

oooh its got a "titinium" exhaust too... must be a new composite alloy I haven't heard of before

Ok lets get a bit left of centre for a moment.... Have a look at this video. Car Videos PS. you can download a hi-res version from the website listed at the end... Now... IMHO, brilliant idea. This thing is pushing 500 odd kw and yet externally it looks like your typical stock-as-a-rock-dropping-the-kids-off-at-soccer-practice volvo. The perfect sleeper. I'd love to hear some feedback from the forum re: how hard it would REALLY be to shoehorn a RB26dett or 1JZ or something into a similar 7 series volvo. These cars cost squillions brand new, drive brilliantly and have all the fruit comfort-wise and can be bought for a steal these days. Between 3-7k. I'm doing my homework, and if I can feasibly engineer and register it for less than 15k I'm gunna build it. Whaddayathink?

Tend to chew though CV joints at a rapid rate of knots... :)cheap to replace though. Head gaskets are another common problem. Generally speaking a reliable yet completely unremarkable slice of early 90's econo-motoring... I used to pick these things up for a couple of K and thrash the living bejesus out of them as my daily drivers...

you guys should try living in a town with more japanese tourists than any other city in oz... I find it confounding that the same race of people who produce the most fantastic sportscars on the planet are completely incapable of piloting a rented hyundai getz in any degree less than downright DANGEROUS. aaaargh! I'll probably be accused of generalising but I'm on the road for 8 hours a day... I form my opinion based on experience... I think i just needed to have a little rant/rave. much better now....
