Its hard to see in the video, but I was braking hard before most turns in the warm up lap, thats why I seem to corner so slow in the warm up lap, I get stuck into it, brake, into it, brake - but the video doesn't really show the hard braking as such. Once I can feel the tyres really working, then I feel more confident about my cornering speed. I can't afford to let the back end get away on me because that's where all the weight is, so have to be careful about my timing on pushing it into corners. The POV camera is great, it even makes my car sound like a real car (my car sounded like a weird buzz with the other camera). Do you think it's worth talking to Phil regarding an engine? He might know of something.

Now I've had time to look at my videos, I can see a lot of room for improvement - It felt good to get it out of 2nd gear for a change and you can see all the hillclimbs haven't been good for me in that area. But I guess the hillclimbs have been good for me in learning how to drive on cold tyres. Anyway, here is one of my sessions from Sunday and as I said, I know there is still a lot of room for improvement.

I'm Ticked Off...what Gets You Wound Up?
Michele replied to LTSJayce's topic in Australian Capital Territory
I don't do it when I ride, but it only cheeses me off a tiny bit. Its not legal, but seems to be one of those ignored laws. Like arms out the windows of cars - everyone seems to do it in ACT. Has anyone ever been pinged for it? -
Awww Neil, that's horrible for you. You've GOT to get going by EC, it won't be the same without you there

Bikes get off the mark pretty quick, so I don't mind them going to the front so much... but it really, really, really p!sses me off when they trigger the bus lights &^%&^*#$$# -
Sau Wakefield Trackday - Who's Going?
Michele replied to Frink's topic in Australian Capital Territory
But for an extra $50 you get the option of a LOT more events to attend - Speed events FTW As with most "club days" if you attend an SAU track day or SDMA hillclimb day you can get your cams licence there on the day, but you have to enter and pay entry fees in advance for popular events, especially Mt Panorama, or you will miss a spot. -
Sau Wakefield Trackday - Who's Going?
Michele replied to Frink's topic in Australian Capital Territory
Costs vary depending on the event. The local hillclimb is $75 for the day, motokhanas approx $30, Wakefield track days normally range from $110-$180, Bathurst (Mt Panorama) supersprints/hillclimbs $150-$160. CAMS L2S is $95 a year Club membership depends on the club. $500 is plenty for L2S events, say if you did the next SDMA hillclimb, membership for $50 year (or $10 day), CAMS $95 (year), Entry fee $75 = $220 all up for your first event. Thereafter, it would only cost you $75 It only costs me $395 to do a full circuit event with IRACE (but thats a different licence and racing door to door/grid start) -
Awww Shawn, you are going to fret for her (and us ) I hope the trip overseas is worth it (I'm sure it will be). Keep in touch and we'll catch up when you get back.

If you can pass it as being a street car (have you handed the plates back?) all you will need to do is pass the safety checks of scrutineering. You won't need bonnet catches, nothing extra to add apart from the fire extinguisher and some basics. They will check brakes, steering, seat belts (standard okay), blue triangle for battery location (blue masking tape on the day), approved helmet among other basic checks to ensure the car is mechanically safe. If you don't have the plastic cover over the positive terminal on your battery, they will get you to stick some gaffa tape over the top. Its all pretty commonsense stuff, but we're happy to help if there is something you're not sure about. -
woohoo I just found out I broke the class (5E) record yesterday at Wakefield Park - Neil do you have a copy of what the previous records were?
-
Thanks Ryan - I did IRACE at OP last year and it was fantastic - The other Formula cars are running some serious engines and pass me like I'm just there for the Sunday drive, but its still a LOT of fun and I won't miss it for anything. This is the only circuit series where I am allowed to run with my car. Apart from this, there is only supersprints and hillclimbs... all of which are fun, just not the same as door to door racing (if I had a door that is).

You don't have to have a road licence to have a CAMS licence - You need a CAMS L2S (level 2 speed) which will let you do hillclimbs and supersprints as well as events that come under L2NS (non speed) such as motorkhanas. A simple form to fill out and costs $95 for a year. You will also have to be a member of a club such as SAU. Depending on who is running the event, they may want you to be a member of their club as well i.e. you need to be a member of SDMA to do the local hillclimbs. Look into getting a race only rego (although I know little about them) that allows someone to drive your car to and from the track only. You don't have to be registered to race, they may not take a lot of notice, but not being registered may put you into a higher class and they may expect additional changes i.e. oil catch can, bonnet catches, tow hooks etc. -
I was still happy with my time, it was a PB for me at Wakie. I noticed the clubby is in type 5, but am unsure what changes he has made to make him type 5, surely it can't be slicks alone, because it said Leigh was winning the 'clubbies on slicks' class on the time sheets. Perhaps someone can explain the differences? Yes, only two weeks to go and I've never been to EC before so expect to be but looking forward to running there. That's if I can keep my car together from IRACE for the two days before at OP *fingers crossed* Have you looked at doing IRACE Duncan?

Sau Wakefield Trackday - Who's Going?
Michele replied to Frink's topic in Australian Capital Territory
Sunday at Wakie is the CAMS NSW Supersprints Championships - There will be anything and everything there except Formula Vee (well I didn't see any Vees at the last one). I'll be there with the Formula Holden, Neil (NSW SAU) will be there with his Radical and a few Skylines, WRX's, EVO's, Clubbies, Lotus, old V8 supercars, mini's. Pretty much everything as all CAMS types/categories are allowed to run. I seriously need an active pit crew person, Mark has hurt his arm big time looks like he has torn the muscle from the bone Is anyone going up tomorrow who is prepared to get their hands dirty? Monitor tyre pressures, push me around (I mean my car ) -
I spotted a Bayside Blue R34 GTR VSpec II in my carpark at work. Talked to the owner and she's for sale if anyone is interested. PM me for his phone number if you are serious.

I'm Ticked Off...what Gets You Wound Up?
Michele replied to LTSJayce's topic in Australian Capital Territory
I don't mind saying that it really p!sses me off when a motorcycle uses the bus lane (at lights) and triggers the bus lights while two lanes of traffic have to wait. Mark and I both ride motorcycles, but neither of us will use the bus lane at the lights. -
Thats more like it Neil makes it a lot more fun when you can throw sh!t at each other. All this practice you're getting with a lot less weight than me... you should do pretty good, but I'll be trying hard to keep up/ahead of you. I haven't driven Wakie for a loooooong time, in fact, I think both you and Duncan were there at my last look at Wakie. Hopefully I will still do okay, even without all that practice Now if I can talk Tim Edmondson into coming, he will kick both our butts. I think Erol said he's doing 64-65's at OPGP - Tim might come to EC No clashes this time Duncan :woohoo: but you do have to wonder how CAMS NSW approve clashing state championships.

Welcome to Oz Joe. How long have you been here for? You should come to Wakefield Park (at Goulburn NSW) for a drive this Saturday to see some Skylines on the track.
