  1. Unfortunately, there is real evidence - 1) quite a number of people like Alex who find 100% proof after the buy the car. 2) Many cars for sale that are simply not in good enough condition to have actually done the KM's stated. The opposite is possible, ie a high KM car in very good condition is certainly doable, and is often an excellent buy. But you simple can't wear out the gear stick, or handbrake grip, or steering wheel, with 40,000 km's! 3) Price. Often the yards are selling cars that would have to be for a loss if the KM's were genuine, given the prices in Japan.. 4) Quantity - I just don't think it's feasible that 90% plus of cars in a yard, independent of age (and going back to 1990!), have all had about the same km's... 5) Electronics. I have done a fair bit of embedded electronics, and I can assure you that once you'd pulled one dash apart and had a good look, it wouldn't be that hard to do unless they had put a lot of work into making it difficult. I'd be surprised if they had, as it would have cost money... It's probably as simple as connecting up a chip and writing a new value to it.. Ian
  2. When people mention 'deposit' and 'baby' in the one sentenance, they normally aren't talking about cars - though the stagea does have enough room in the back.. I'll probably be able to make it. Bayside Blue, Series 2, Four S :-) Ian
  3. And that's the 2000kg one? And did he also include the bit that goes into it? And where do the electrics plug into - a lead out of the boot, or is that a socket on the left hand side? Ian
  4. Nope - you can't even get the current odometer reading out, let alone what it might have been some time in the past... Ian
  5. Yep, I could tell I was the oldest there last time - I was the only one who bought a chair and a loaf of bread! ! :-) And, before muck says it I'll light the fire a bit earlier next time to give it time to cool down... :-)
  6. If you look in your policy (they all have it) you'll see that if they declare it a write off they then own it. They then recover money from selling it to someone... Ian
  7. and see http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...showtopic=85267 for the stageas in Melbourne.. (photo's at the end of the post..) Ian
  8. You REALLY need a cargo barrier behind the drivers st - many people get killed by things flying forward when they either have to brake sharply or bump into something (somebody in Aus was killed a few years ago by a bag of rice!) Remeber, whatever you have in the back is going to be doing up to 60kmh+ when it runs into the back of your head... Ian
  9. I assume the auction report you have has the vin number and the production year (both missing from the one you posted). If you PM the VIN number I'll check it in FAST to tell you exactly what the model/year is. And don't forget for compliance you'll have to put normal suspension and exhaust on etc etc. Excellent buy if it turns out OK (which hopefully it will!)! Keep us all informed.
  10. As the are electronic, and have to store the value somewhere, I suspect it would be pretty easy to set them to a particular value if you knew what you were doing... Ian
  11. Yes, at a price that means they could not be sold in the yards for the price quoted - unless the dealers were prepared to lose money everytime they sold one... The vast bulk of them just have to be wound back...
  12. Post up the rest of the brochure!!
  13. I would be extremely surprised if you could get a "four s", already imported, for $25K - in reasonable condition! Read http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...showtopic=73058 from start to finish... Especially my post at http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...8entry1378058 Ian
  14. .. which is about what I get (as per the post a bit above) ie 55 to 60l per 400km of around town driving. Ian
  15. Yep, I've liked it The comfort of a luxury sedan, with a skyline performance and handling.. Of course, it might not sell, in which case I'll tell the wife 'I tried, looks like we will have to keep it..' The stagea is good as well, great for carrying crap around, but it is 200kg heaver, and has more road noise as well. Still, it has the same NEO engine as this one , and is better than any wagon I could have bought in Oz! Ian
  16. $26,500 ONO - make me an offer! I've bought a stagea - great for carring large amounts of stuff arround - so it's time for the fantastic car I've owned for several years to go - What is a R34 GTX Turbo? It was the top of the range skyline when the R34's came out - see http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/nissan/skyline/1998_5/ for all the models, and http://www.nissan-global.com/GCC/Japan/NEWS/24b6.htm for the nissan press release for this exact car. The "X Turbo" came with all the optional extras, specifically the limited slip diff, Traction control, upgraded sound system, privacy glass, xenon lights, 17inch alloy wheels, etc. Do not confuse the R34 GTX Turbo with a R33 GTT! The R34 has been vastly upgraded ie better - 1. engine (NEO) (206kw..) 2. turbo 3. intercooler, 4. brakes (4 piston caliper at the front, with bigger disks) 5. steering (Super Hicas) 6. Traction Control 7. Exhaust ("dual tailpipe muffler with exhaust pressure-sensitive control") 8. Stiffness (better than a R33 GTR!) 9. Gearbox (M-AT, with paddles, torque lock, engine braking...). 10. interior - updated and modern. My specific car details are - 1998 Tiptronic - ie M-AT You can use it in auto or manual mode (which includes using paddles on the steering wheel). It's good! 117,000 kms - if I wound it back to 50,000kms (like all those adds in the trading post) you would believe it. Timing belt has been changed etc. Silver Dual airbags ABS brakes Limited Slip Diff Traction Control (which can be switched of on the dash) Tinted windows MP3 player 8 speaker "Holographic" sound system (active crossovers on the rear speakers). Duel Muffler exhaust (ie "sports" exhaust). Strut brace Climate Control Cruise Control - top of the range rostra (all electric) alarm & immobiliser with remote pager and auto window winder- top of the range (Aus insurance approved). Custom built tow bar Custom seat covers All power options etc Central locking Adjustable height headlights (dial in the cabin). 4 door ie it is a stock standard R34 GTX Turbo, accept for the things I have changed/added - 1. The MP3 Player (JVC) 2. Cruise Control - top of the range rostra unit, with RF connected buttons on the steering wheel. 3. Custom tow bar (from Prestige in Melbourne) 4. Custom seat covers 5. Top of the range alarm, with remote pager and window winder - you just shut the car with the remote, the windows go up and the alarm/immobiliser is activated. 6. An unused (not connected) turbo timer. Yes, you may be able to import an R34 GTT (not X) a little bit cheaper than this (if you are lucky, a lot of importers underestimate the total cost). But there are some good reasons not to - 1. The cost of the Alarm, Cruise Control, and Tow bar will more than make up the difference. 2. Import risk (ie Are parts going to be stripped before it gets to you? What condition is it really in, etc etc) 3. No need to worry about compliance, and your local road authority (it's been here (vic), and registered for several years). 4. It will NOT be easy for you to find one (and it will cost more) with the optional traction control, and limited slip diff - both extremely valuable features! This is a very very nice family :-) car, very quite inside, excellent interior, very smooth ride and handling, which has no difficulty overtaking. :-) The four doors certainly reduce the attention from the police as well. If your interested, send me a PM, or ring me on 0422 479 540. Genuine interested buyers only, and no, you won't be taking it for a test drive unless I'm sure you really are interested in buying it! Ian
  17. You will get nothing but crap for that type of price ie accident damaged etc etc. You normally would need to spend 1.3 to 1.4M yen (or higher) for a good condition Four S... Ian
  18. I can assure you that many of the series 1 owners envy both of us So 'only' doesn't apply to a 99 one! If I do get up for the tow bar, you should come around and we can compare cars..
  19. Yep, now that he has done (or almost done) yours (which is a series 2 four s like mine) he should be able to make one up and fit it as I come through canberra (I'd slow down a bit as I go through.. :-) What year is yours (mine is a 2001)? Ian
  20. I think you were too busy thinking about ripping the manual gearbox out of mine to worry about the fuel.... Not to mention the suspension, which you could have ripped out of anyones and it would have been an improvement for you - have you got that all fixed? Ian
  21. Great color, much better than white, silver, yellow, green... Almost as good as my bayside blue.. :-) Ian
  22. I agree, I suspect he is going to be selling them to people all over Aus! I look forward to the picks.. :-) Ian
  23. I regularly put in 60l, after all it is a 68l tank! You should easily be able to get from one side of melbourne to the other on the remaining 8l! I find the odometer to be a better gauge of how much fuel I have left, as the petrol gauge is certainly not linear... I know I can do 400km of around town driving comfortably, so just fill it up when it gets there (between 55l and 60l, depending on how hard I've been driving.. :-) Ian
  24. That sounds good. I'd be doing the heavy duty one as well - no use for it now, but I intend to keep this car for a looonnnggg time (well, what would you 'upgrade' to???) so who knows... Need to get the cruise control in before I head off though... (as discussed in another thread). Down hear (Melb) prestige needs the car for three days, and didn't sound that confident about a high load one... And Tee, you have a series 2 four s like mine? :-) Good to know there is another one around! :-) What color? (you can see mine here http://www.r34skyline.com/wagon/) And when is your towbar going on? Ian
  25. What is the price of the heavy duty one fitted (without certificate)? I'm still thinking of coming up for the drive and having it done, as I've got to go up to sydney in the new year anyway.... :-) Ian
