went and had a bit of a look (not easy without jacking the car up...) Stuffed if I could tell. At the rear there is bar going from side to side ie the same as 55422X, but the rest looks different. You can have a look in FAST - my model number is TGKPREFC34UDA----- see pictures attached. You can see at the front that it has a bar across under the engine (54611) and at the back you have the cross bar (56230) connected up to a whole solid frame, which in turn attaches (ie up from the 55080ba nut) into the side chasis rail. Hope that helps...

Don't know - tell me where to look, and I'll go look/take photos. Though not today (stuffed the foot so am not walking..) Ian

And I'd call it a series 1 revision 2, as 1) not enough changed (ie same motor etc etc) 2) A series 2 to me would mean R34 GTR parts.. ie the big change from a series 1 stagea to a series 2 stagea whas swapping from the R33GTT engine/intercooler/turbo to the much better R34 GTT NEO engine/intercooler/turbo etc ie (again) the RS4S changed a bit in 2000 (June) but we still call it a series 2 RS4S, we just add a 'rev 2' to it as nothing major changed.. And as someone who sent me an email said, in my comment above I hadn't factored in SELLING my NEO engine etc - if I do that I could easily upgrade to a RB26DETT + Brakes for less than the price difference between the S and 1999 260RS.. OK, did a bit more research The autech site definitly says (http://www.autech.co.jp/HISTORY-SV/WC34S01/index.htm) that it is based on the series 2 rs four s - the bit on the line with the "GF-WGNC34" says model S. changed from the S - 70KG heavier It has super-hicas - I'm going to check my S when it gets home (it's the wifes car.. :-) and have a real look to see if it is hicas or super hicas.. upgraded brakes R33 GTR RB25DETT - you can tell from the spec on the autech page. It appears to have the same gearbox (5 speed, not 6), diff (lsd), drivetrain as the S (going from the gear ratios and memory) So my point is that while it is an excellent car - it is NOT based on the R34 GTR. And given the the PRICE difference from the rs4s - which has the r34 neo engine/turbo/intercooler instead of the R33 RG26DETT - I'm not sure a 1999 one is a good buy.. ie it isn't anywhere near as big an upgrade as a series 1 auto to the 260rs is, and it costs a lot lot more than a S.. I suspect I could put a r34 R26DETT with good turbos, intercooller, brakes etc into my S for a total cheaper price than buying a 1999 autech..
-
can you point to anything to say this is based on a r34 GTR? ie R34 GTR suspension, engine, turbos, intercooler, etc? If not, it is still a R33 GTR conversion from a stagea, ie not what I would call a series 2 autech (even if their marketting department did).

we have got slightly off topic :-) Anyway - Nope - I'm reasonably sure - I checked this up before getting my RS4S - no 260RS's were made with R34 GTR parts, so there is no such thing as a series 2 RS260. In fact, looking at the photos, I'm a bit suspicious about this whole car... I suspect it is.. As per many other posts, I think most dealers out there are setting them to silly numbers - do they really think we are going to believe that a car has done 29K in 7 years? ie 4K a year? Not likely.I was looking at carsales.com.au the other day, and you could tell many the dealers from the k's on the cars - each lot obvousily had a number that they set every car to +/- 5k... Ian

There was no manual s1 (apart from the 260RS) - so just the manual S2 (ie the rs4s) and the series 1 based (upgraded a lot!) 260rs (If they had done a series 2 260rs - ie a S2 upgraded to r34 parts - I would have bought one! ) Ian

How To: Stagea Headunit/stereo Removal
ian replied to AlexCim's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Are you sure it doesn't come back out somewhere behind the head unit? As the power to the antena is normally switched on/off by the head unit (no point having it powered if it is off!) - so I'd try what you sugested above... Ian -
I put a jvc head unit in (myself) and it works fine on AM and FM... Can't rember the wiring (Alex did a big thread on it, so do a search) though I seem to remember that the antena did need power.. Ian Edit: opps, just noticed Alex's thread on the front page, so I asume you found it..

by the time you buy a good one, bring it in, do a few bits and pieces, it isn't going to be too much cheaper than EGA41T's one - without the bits he has already done up. Plus you can poke and test it (as it is already here) so it is definitely worth considering.

Is it only the rs4s that has hicas? Don't the rest of the series 2's have it??
-
I've been doing the odd posts recently about what the 4S has/doesn't have etc, and think it's a good idea to have it in one thread. To start - The "25t RS FOUR S" - which we all just call the rs4s, came in as a series 2 in Aug 1998 (ie rs4s rev 1). It is a manual stagea, with the updated R34 GTT engine/trubo/intercooler that the series 2's have. An updated one came out in June 2000 (ie rs4s rev2), hopefully we will get some details below on the diferences vetween the rev1 and rev2. The main differences between a rs4s and the rest of the series 2 stageas are (and this list will probably grow ) - - it is manual - has lsd as standard (it was an option on other series 2's) - has some R33 GTR parts instead of R33 GTT (more details coming) - 3 center gauges (including turbo boost and front wheel power used) - rear swaybar is larger and has a slightly different profile around the exhaust. the rear shocks are a fork type. - HICAS (it amazes me that this isn't on the rest of the stageas!) - R33 GTR drive shafts and diff. - 17 inch wheels - better seats. I'll keep this top post up to date as people post stuff below.. you can see my rs4s rev 2 at http://www.iqconsult.net/stagea/

yet another reason I bought the series 2 RS4S - it has a LSD as standard.. :-)

Actually I slightly disagree on two points 1) many import cars have this many km's - you just don't know it as they have been 'wound back'. Indeed, the same applies to many of the cars in the Trading Post. In itself, IF the car is in good condition and has been taken care of, the km's aren't a problem which brings me to 2) I don't think the auto transmission a 'throw away' at this km's - particularly the better one in the series 2 (the MAT). Everything I've heard says they are quite well made, and if taken care of (ie oil!) should be fine multiples of this many km's... One thing (out of many) that you should look at on this car is has the timming belt been changed? Ian
-
we probably should start a RS4S thread..
-
If that is the case, and I'm not disagreeing , I'm surprised more of the guys on this forum haven't bought a rs4s to do up instead of a series one auto - 'cause by the time you swapped the transmission, and upgraded the axles, intercooler, etc etc, it would probably be cheaper to get the 'S' in the first place! So yep, happy with mine - though I mainly bought it for the wife and more importantly, she is happy with it..

looking as best I can (ie without jacking the car up), I think I can clearly say I'm not sure. Looking at newbie101's pic ie (where the GTR one is at the top) I can't tell if it gets wider or not.. I suspect it might though, as looking down the shaft (I turned the wheel on an angle) at about the right spot for the size change there appears to be a rubber ring or something.. Anybody know how I can check this easly without pulling the car apart? Ian ps - sorry if I've got slightly off topic, though if we do have the GTR bits in the RS4S it will make a difference how much power we can put through it!
-
I'll look at the front when it stops raining.. But looking at the back a few minutes ago - and comparing it to brads pictures above, it does look like the GTR one - ie it has the same two bits of rubber before the main join as the GTR one (unlike the 3 for the stagea) and looks about the same size as the GTR one as well - measuring roughly with my fingers I'd say it was about 13cm diameter, where the stagea brad took above looks like about 8cm.. Anyone have any thoughts? I'll check the front later. Ian - and the back steering looks like hicas to me, ie not the super hicas that my R34 has.
-
Brad, I've got a series 2 manual (2000) - how would I tell what the driveline was? Anything I should take pics of (ie could you tell from a pic?) or anything I should measure? Ian edit: your pictures just came up (I'm having some internet problems..) I'll go measure the rear xles on my stagea...

I think this one needs to go in a "NOT DIY" section... Ian

I sold so many tires I can't remember who they all went to...
-
Yep, could be that I'm older and don't need the fast changes anymore.. In the R34 the down shifts are almost instant, the upshifts take about .5 sec. But with the range of the engine torque I just don't notice given my normal driving... It probably also helps that the R34 is 200kg lighter than the RS4S - and that is noticable as even though they have the same engine/turbo/intercooler the R34 seems more snappy than the stagea (even though it is a manual) as long as it isn't wet (where the R34 back wheels will just spin so easly if I turn traction control off.. ...
-
Nah Glad you got some fun out of them! I'd be interested to here from the guys with the stagea series 2 triptronic gearbox (if they install one of these) as in my R34 (which is 200kg lighter than my manual stagea) I have no trouble with it changing gears - so I don't know why the stagea version would be too slow.. Ian
-
Yep. though don't forget the S on the end as well .. I'm not sure what they updated - though I think that is when they changed to the white dials , not sure what else they did (they also made the bayside blue color a factory standard choice ). Thus the question re the boost gauge.. Ian
-
I was wondering if all the rs4s did (ie the manuals like mine) or if it came in with the June 2000 update ie only the rs4s 'model 2's (which mine is). Ian
