Removing Oil/water Heater/cooler From An Rb26
GOD12A replied to djr81's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Heya NEE-SAN, I did a kit for a 33 GTR recently with good components (Setrab 34 row, Speedflow, GREDDY thermo plate) and it came up around $800 fitted from memory. Definitely cheaper to DIY. Mark -
Removing Oil/water Heater/cooler From An Rb26

Yep, direct to block with the following part: http://www.rawbrokerage.com/raw-brokerage-oil-filter-stud-direct-to-block-rb20-rb25-rb26/ I'm sure you could get the stud elsewhere, but I already had an order from them so I tacked it on. Mark -
First of all I'd grab a mate, go for a thrash and get loose while your mate watches the "front torque" pressure gauge on the dash to see if it moves (a little or heaps. obviously the looser you get the more pressure the gauge should read) If you're half confident with a multimeter you can check the g-sensor function yourself. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/356654-r32-gtr-g-sensor-fix/ I've never used an aftermarket g-sensor so can't comment, sorry. My 32R gets pretty sideways before it decides to throw some power to the front, makes for a fun drive. In saying that, if I launch it hard I'll see the gauge move every time. Mark

Heya JR, RE: 4WD not functioning well. Confirm your G-sensor hasn't been whacked (check bulb on unit) Bleed the ATTESA and check fluid level in boot. Change fluid in transfer case if it hasn't been done for a while. If that doesn't help, let me know and we can dig deeper. Mark PS: I like the direction of your build.

Removing Oil/water Heater/cooler From An Rb26
GOD12A replied to djr81's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Heya guys, I've recently done this when building my 26. I bought a thread adapter from Raw Brokerage for a few bucks on top of a bigger order so I could mount the GREDDY sandwich plate directly to the block (so no RB30 housing). I then machined up some alloy plugs for the cut down water lines. GREDDY have some pre-tapped aluminium plugs for oil temp/pressure senders. I use an aftermarket mechanical gauge, but if you wanted to fit an OEM sender unit, it might be too bulky and hit the engine mount if the sandwich plate is clocked similar to mine. I overlooked this step when purchasing the plate and machined the blank GREDDY plugs for the required threads. Job done. If you want to run the factory sender, you could have a short -3 or -4 braided hose (or cheaper Pirtec equivalent) made up so you can fit the OEM sender anywhere (I do this on Lotus' as the MoTeC senders don't fit the factory location nicely) You can also buy a straight brass fitting with a female thread off the side allowing an OEM and aftermarket sender to tee off the same feed. Hope it helped. Mark PS: Factory R32 oil filter won't fit the GREDDY sandwich plate (can diameter too large), R33> filters will work, I use Ryco Z442. -
Water/water Meth Vs High Ethanol Content Juice .

Heya guys, In a rush, so skimmed the last page. I was talking to a very experienced backyarder about WMI vs E85 last weekend. He mentioned they were on par performance wise. He's currently using E85, but will move back to WMI on his next setup for costs sake. I have always wanted to try pre-turbo WMI but haven't bit the bullet just yet. My mate has run pre-turbo and noticed the compressor wheel had 'chips' on the leading edge after prolonged use. He then moved it to post TB with similar performance results, then to multipoint where he found no further gain in performance but mentioned a lower tolerance to pushing the quantity of WMI he could throw in. He runs a 200psi pump which may be too low to effectively atomise the WM enough for pre-turbo application (hence the compressor wheel 'chipping' when nozzle was mounted pre-turbo) My first suggestion was to mount the nozzle just past the turbo on a bend facing downstream, which he'll try in the next incarnation. I did some research a few years back and couldn't find anything much beyond 200psi (anything rated more than that was a 200psi pump with the regulator wound up which reduced flow) For the cost associated with E85 (pump, injectors, regulator, tune and possibly an ECU) and the cons of sourcing E85, cost, cold start issues etc; I'd suggest giving WMI serious consideration for a small boost in power on a budget. E85 is great for big applications, but 'as good' results can be had on a smaller 'DIY' budget in my opinion. I hope some of this helped. Mark PS: Ethanol smells nice, you should include that in your decision making process -
Heya guys, my setup. R32 GTR RB26 Assembled, blueprinted and balanced by Tarmac Solutions in Sydney OEM rods/pistons/crank (with moly rings) Garrett GT2860R-7 turbos on OEM manifolds (port matched to turbos) and dumps Tomei PONCAM Type-B cams on OEM valves and springs Haltech Platinum Pro 550cc injectors with OEM pump, reg and rail 2.5" front pipes to 3" exhaust (no cat, streetable Jasma muffler) Twin filter pods, no MAFs OEM intercooler and pipework Yellow Jacket coils Reliability: Tapped crank oil feeds Crank collar Tomei oil pump 9L baffled and gated sump N1 water pump ACL Race Series bearings Permaseal MLS-R head gasket OEM gasket kit 340kw (~450hp) @20psi with fat midrange and great pull from 4500rpm (9000rpm redline) Previously made ~330kw @20psi with more power under 4000rpm. Only change was a refresh (hone, rings and bearings) and Tomei cams. This setup found 20-30kw from 4500rpm upwards and makes for a much more 'thrashable' setup on track. Cruising fuel consumption is down (we pulled fuel out under 4000rpm and added fuel above that rpm) http://youtu.be/yZWgEWPTFqc I don't care for the number it produced, I only care for driveablity, thrashability and reliability. With more area under the curve and better economy around town, I'm more than happy with the addition of cams on an otherwise pretty tame setup. Mark

Thanks to all who helped organise the night, was a good insight into the products and systems available from Carbon Car Systems. The GTR will be tinted real soon to reduce the risk of defect (6pt harnesses, fixed back seats and no interior can draw unwanted attention) Thanks again guys. Mark

Heya guys, Any spots left for a loner? Should be a good excuse to get some kays on the car. Mark -
The balancing shop lost mine and I'd 'prefer' to have one to reassemble my engine. I'm in Sydney, but happy to pay for postage. Mark

Heya all Anyone looking for a crew member to help out at High Country? The guys I usually help out have other obligations and won't be attending. Spanner experience on mainly Jap cars, lots of rotary experience, prefer modern. Currently working on Radicals and Lotus' but spent time solely on Nissans (GTRs 32/33/34) and Mazdas (RX/MX5). If it whooshes, I can spanner it. I like cider and KFC tower burgers. Check http://www.tarmacsolutions.com.au/ and follow the Facebook link at the bottom of the page for further info. Sydney team preferred. PM/email if you're interested. Mark

Heya all Any vids/pics of GOD12A (charcoal 32GTR on black CR Kais) ripping skids? My mates expected everyone else to bring their camera/video gear. Kids these days... Any media of those tyres going to heaven would be appreciated! Mark

Heya NYL83R!! Bout time I had freaking internet... I did the Museum of Emerging Science in Odaiba and really liked it, even got to watch a demo of ASIMO the Honda humanoid which was kinda cool/nerdy. I`ll probably hit Harajuku again today (Thursday), I liked that place last time! Friday I have some Jap friends taking me out for the day and watching sumo in the arvo. I did check out Toyotas History garage, was pretty good EXCEPT the lighting was fuxored and the flash on my camera is a bit average. Such a shame, some real nice cars in their... My fave so far was the Mazda museum in Hiroshima. I managed to get a pic of my humping the back of the 1991 Le Mans winning Mazda 787B mwahahahaaa Another sweet humping pic to add to my collection, I`ve got similar humping pics from Ferrari museum, Lamborghini museum, Pagani factory, Maserati museum etc etc I have two Jap friends who are keen to do TAS with me, they aren`t overly into cars but want to see why I extended my trip by 5 days!! I`m actually leaving TAS for Narita at around 5. I`m sure my firends won`t stay mush past lunch/early arvo, so from there on I`m more than happy to meet up and talk cars for the rest of the day! I`ll PM my number if you`d like to catch up after lunch at TAS. Have a good one guys! Mark

Heya all It`s been ages since I could log in properly?! Update from me. I`ve already done Hiroshima and the Mazda Museum as well as Nagoya and Toyota Museum in Aichi. My travel partners turned shit and I decided to part ways and do my own stuff earlier than expected. I`m now (Sunday 8th Jan) in Yokohama for the night then heading to Tokyo (accommodation unknown as yet) to do Odaiba in Tokyo bay over the next two days (Museum of Emerging Science + Tezuka museum etc) Then I`m bored till Friday (13th Jan) and open for any random adventures. I`ve seen most of the touristy stuff (been in Jap since 23rd Dec)but keen to double up if someone is keen for company. Mark PS: I got pics of my humping the 1991 Le Mans winning Mazda 787B, ultimate win

Heya LOACH, That'd be cool, I'll post up my schedule when I have something concrete I'm definitely hitting TAS on Saturday 14th as I fly out that evening. Will be doing Hiroshima and Mazda museum over 2 days, then Toyota museum on the way back to Tokyo. Dates to be confirmed. Once again, the snow in Hakuba is awesome! Mark
-
Heya guys Nagoya sounds like it may be on the cards for my return trip from Mazda in Hiroshima. Niiice Anyone keen to meet up? I'm free between 9th and 14th for anything to do with cars!! The snow in hakuba is currently epic BTW!! Mark
-
Heya *LOACH*!! I haven't had a chance to plan Toyota yet. I'm interested in both/either. I think I'll do Mazda / Hiroshima around the 10th or 11th for two days. Then I'll see where the Toyota and Nissan plants and museums are. Mark
-
Heya NYL83R!! You picked the Sat or Sun yet?? I'm heading to TAS on the Saturday as I fly out that evening. I'll be catching a 'burret train' to Hiroshima to check the Mazda museum and the memorial down there in the week leading up to TAS, as well as hopeful trips to Toyota and Nissan (haven't organised just yet, still planning) You keen to head out for a look-see to any of them?? I'm flying out this Thursday but if you wanna chat we can PM and go from there. Anyone else keen to come out?? Mark

Heya there I'm selling my RB26 as a long motor to make way for a built engine. Motor has done ~84k kms with even compression across all cylinders. When the car arrived in Oz it had an oil cooler fitted straight away. I've done some track work with it and have decided to step up to a built engine. I have a 9L baffled and extended sump on the engine at the moment so there's no oil starve issue. It's been tuned by HITman (a personal friend of mine for nearly 15yrs) with a Haltech Platinum Pro and made 317kw at the wheels on 19psi with -7s (standard intercooler/cams/MAFs and airbox fitted) With a screwdriver handle holding open the airbox we saw over 330kw, whoever says GTR airboxes aren't restrictive need to buy a screwdriver and do some testing...) It does have the following: N1 water pump Yellow Jacket coils (not even 1000km old) Adjustable cam gears with new Gates belt and idler replaced a few thousand km ago. Nismo thermostat Also comes with coil cover, not shown in pics. This motor is still in the car and can be driven before buying (no deposit on you, no ride, simple) Obviously no turbos, exhaust manifolds, clutch/pressureplate. Next problem is that I'll be away until Jan 16th, so don't expect any replies other than the random email till then. I'm sure we can work something out if you're super keen. $2000, as it's in the car and you can drive it before it's removed. Better than a 'stab in the dark ebay special' with a photocopied dyno sheet!! Mark

Heya a20089 I'm pretty impressed with it thus far! It does everything I need and a few extra cool things to boot. My only possible negative is that I keep forgetting where some of the options are within the menus. Not general stuff like starting a new session, but things like adding a split marker etc I find them eventually, but to be fair, I've only done it a few times and am still learning my way around the menus. A few more runs and I'm sure I'll have it down pat, but it isn't 'iPhone intuitive', but then what is?! I recommend having a look at these if you're in the market for a lap timer, ESPECIALLY if it's to be used on a streetable car/bike The timing options are plain dangerous to your licence Mark

Heya there NYL83R No plans for the week leading up to TAS as yet. I'll check out those places out soon man, appreciated Are you heading to TAS 2012?? Mark
