That's exactly why I sold my RX3 and bought a 32R. Last time I was at E/Creek I saw a guy nail the inside wall on the exit of 8 and destroy the front of his car and put himself in hospital. That was the turning point for me. Time to sell up and stop pussying around in a classic car, buy something 'smashable' and give it ten tenths! On the flipside, I know why people want to build a certain car too. My RX3 was a dream since Yr9 at school, it was worth a very nice house deposit, took me 7yrs to build and sold it after 13yrs of ownership The GTR is merely a tool to go fast in. Nothing more Mark

Good to see the guy at the end wearing flame retardant shoes with shorts and a tshirt!! You boys want 4rotor action? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Geepgs7ILcM&feature=share Fast forward to 2:12 for some great driving. Motor is a 4rotor PP and was built in NZ by a mate of mine at PPRE. And here's a pretty recent vid of the mazda 787B LeMans car driven by Johnny Herbert who got the chequered flag in 1991 but never got to stand on the podium as he was taken directly to hospital for heat exhaustion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqQEAfPnhio&feature=share I get a boner every time I hear that R26B quad... Heya DARKSIDE, If you get a motor built by Racing Beat I'll personally fly to Perth and kick you in the nuts... Their engines are nice, but definitely nothing fancy at all. A rotor motor is built entirely on tolerances. If you find an engine builder who is a toolmaker or good machinist by trade, they will build a reliable motor. It's cute seeing mechanics using micrometers (I'm a toolmaker by trade and managed a Quality Assurance system, so I know my tools) PM me and we can chat further Mark!

Heya DARSIDE!! RB26 are indestructible compared to rotors. My first rotor (12a) made it over 250000 kms and was used solely for burnouts before I got it... It split two apex seals on the dyno as we were seeing how far we could go on stock ports. I still drove it everyday for a few months with split seals before replacing her! If a rotor is built right and is shown some mechanical sympathy, it'll last a very long time. If you want to talk tech about rotors, I'm more than happy to help out, they are what I know well. Take my info, compare it to other workshops and decide what you think is best for your application. Mark

Heya 2PEE You know of my previous exploits... I am a CAD/CAM/CNC programmer from waaay back I'm now in management and off the floor, but still have a play on the machines when I want something fancy! If you think this guy would be up for a chat some time, could you PM me his number? I'm always up for a nerd to nerd car chat, especially if he has an engineering background! As for the 'spare' RB26, I'm looking for something built for a trackable/reliable 350kw. BTW, how do you know shit about me?!?! Damn car scene... Mark

Heya all From a rigidity perspective, bonding two dissimilar parent materials would be a great start. Production cars have been doing it for years, so there's some very advanced products out there. Although I can't see CAMS allowing any non-mechanical (welding/bolting) joining methods anytime soon. The rules don't state you can't do both (bonding for rigidity and bolting to keep CAMS happy)... Mark

Double sided tape. Only the pros use silastic... Mark

Heya DAN, I assume the dyno will be better, but if you're going for a long ride, I assume it's for training and they will suck power from your wheel (I've never ridden a new skool one, but the older ones were farked!!). Not overly great for comparative measurements Just a thought! Mark
-
Heya DAN! Isn't there little solar panels available? Not comfy if you don't use a camelbak etc But I assume long distance ride = more than a few hours anyways. I've considered it for my mobile as the GPS sucks a bit of juice and won't last more than a few hours, especially in the bush where I normally ride. Mark

Oops, should've read closer. Post fail!! hahahaa Mark

Heya 2PEE That'd be cool to look over an old skool GrpA GTR. Does he regular SAU? Wouldn't mind popping him a PM and see if he's up for a chat. No need to make rules to suit. I've scrutineered for CAMS long enough to see many different 'rule interpretations' Pic of the RX7: Mark!

Heya DUNCAN, Hehehee, I get along alright with Pete, he lives 5min up the road I might have to go for a drive to JustJap one day, buy some bits and get into his head Kel has bitches? Wicked... I need bitches, maybe I can learn from her? I might require her navigation hook ups in a year or so! None of my mates are keen to nav for me... Pussies. Mark
-
Thanks DUNCAN! Is Steve from JustJap friendly with people who don't spend $$$ with them? I just wanna learn shit, I'm not a fanboy of any workshop!! Pete's a karndt, I wouldn't trust that guy as far as I could kick him... Who's Kel? Good for nerdy car stuff? Mark
-
Thanks MARLIN 2PEE, the shire?! People actually live down there?? Thanks but no thanks on the rotor thing. I couldn't bring myself to wreck the RX3, that's the only reason I sold it after owning her for 13+yrs! If I put the 32 on it's lid, I wont be happy but I wont cry either. The RX3 was my baby, the 32R is my skanky little track whore... How far out west we talking? Like Parramatta or Orange? I'm always up for a chat with anyone who knows their shit Mark

Heya all Just thought I'd pop my head in and introduce myself as a tarmac newbie. I've built a fast and fun RX3 sedan for street/circuit entirely on my own (hence GOD12A) and recently sold it off to buy a car I could thrash to hell and back. Namely a 32GTR. I attended Targa Tassie last year as support for the purple Starlight Foundation RX7/Redback Racing MX5 and really enjoyed myself as Targa Tassie has been on my to-do list for MANY years. The new toy has run T/Tassie a few years back and still in similar trim (less the 'old skool' bolt-in cage), registered in NSW and driving the streets. I'm keen to hit as many track days and thrash events to learn how to drive this thing, wait till after rego next year, cage 'er up and get into this tarmac stuff with an eventual goal of T/Tassie after a few smaller (cheaper) tarmac events. In the mean time, step down on the rotor bashing!! hahahaa My 12a had a limiter at 10500 and I bounced off it virtually every gear on the track. She's lasted over 3yrs worth of trackdays, burnouts and street thrashing with no signs of letting up. Not bad for a little 12a bridgeport with standard Mazda internals. If they're build right (read: non ethnic engine assembler. I'm wog so I can say it!) they'll last with a little mechanical sympathy. On a side note, is there anyone in western Sydney that tarmacs a 32R? I'd be keen for a chat/beer about rules/regs and general setup ideas. I live in the lower blue mountains and never actuslly sat in a GTR till I drove 900kms and picked up my current rig, so I have no idea on these Nissan things and keen to get my nerd-on. Thanks for reading my life story! Mark

The separate display on the HKS EVC 5 can connect directly to the control unit, but we already had a boost gauge and decided against spending the extra money to add weight! This is a simple, reliable and functional electronic boost controller. Info stolen from other sites: The EVC EZ II is the most simplified version of HKS’ electronic boost controllers, but still utilizes the same proven stepping motor as the EVC. With the same “state of the art” closed loop stepping motor, you are insured the same most accurate and stable boost levels possible. Boost pressure will rise faster and earlier in each gear and be maintained without fear of overboosting. Also the EVC EZ II is capable of being upgrade to a full EVC unit by simply adding an EVC Display unit. Feature and Benefits: COMPACT DESIGN The new ¼ DIN control unit and stepping motor are all compact in design, making for easier installation and mounting inside the cockpit and in the engine compartment. INTELLIGENT STEPPING MOTOR A CPU is imbedded into the stepping motor. This creates more direct and accurate control as the CPU virtually eliminates lag time between the stepping motor and control module. Thereby increasing linear boost control and stability. HIGH BOOST CAPABILITY A wide range of boost control is possible, from stock boost all the way up to 250 kPa (2.5 bar / 36.25 psi). EASY BOOST SET-UP 2 individual boost levels can be easily set by simply turning the volume knobs of the control module. 2 MODE BOOST SETTING FUNCTION Separate A and B boost level settings can be tuned according to the user’s preference and can be switched via the control module or display unit. STOCK BOOST RETURN FUNCTION When the EVC is turned off, the boost level setting will automatically return to stock (baseline boost). UPGRADEABLE By adding an EVC Display unit user's will upgrade their EVC EZ II to a full EVC unit with all the additional features; Scramble Boost, Digital/Analog Boost Display, Warning Function and etc. WASTEGATE SELECTION FUNCTION Can be used with either internal (swing valve) or external (poppet style) wastegates. English manual can be downloaded here: http://www.hksusa.com/info/download.asp?id=3373 All items are located in Western Sydney (Lower Blue Mountains, 10min past Penrith) but can deliver interstate at buyers expense. PM for more info/pics. Mark

Heya all Good to see we have some riders on SAU! I've ridden mountain bikes for over 15yrs, my first job was working in a bike shop at the age of 12, raced XC pretty seriously 'back in the day' (raced with Cadel Evans at national level) but haven't done much recently. The previous 3yrs have been spent racing enduros from short 4hr blats to a few 24hr team events (one 24hr solo) and a five day multi-stage race. I also have a Yeti DH9 for plowing duties and a roadie for training. Also played on a stock (26") trials rig before I moved to a mod (20") 'back in the day' when parts were available in Oz (try finding a 19" trials tyre at a bike shop??) Anyone apart from IDO09S ride dirt in Sydney? I'm extremely overdue for a pedal. Mark

Heya all I'll also be there in the 32s first trackday, hoping to see what these skyline things are capable of after stepping out of a rotor FATZ, if you head down, any chance you can chuck some tyres on your trailer for me?? They're good enough for track, but right on the wear indicators for street. Mark

Heya all I've been told of these TEXI things by a few people. I just bought a modded 32GTR and keen to thrash the hell out of it. Where do I sign? How many are on the waiting list and what are the chances of making it in on the day? Mark -

Im with WARLORD... Every tuning workshop i have used will never tune a car unless its mechanically OK to start with, even then, IF something happens on the dyno, they will stop the tune there and then. I have had slight fuel issues on a dyno within the first few runs and the tuner pulled it off the rollers without charge and told me he wouldnt tune it until the issue was fixed (it was a NA bucket, so it wasnt a case of life or death like a turbo motor) The car came out with less power and a bung motor... Hrrmmmmm, goodluck with that. See what the workshop has to say for themselves, if its resolved nicely, praise them, if it isnt, publicly shame them... Mark
