the limit in ACT for a Skyline (its based on cyl's and weight iirc) is 92db.
-
I didn't say i was unhappy with my mileage. Simply that it wasn't very good. I enjoy my car - very very much
-
I'm flat out getting ~370km / 45L out of mine... Highway is much better use, i can see 500 - but usually see ~330ish *giggle*

250+ DOWN CONROD? AMIRITE! Phone Book Stories scare me, so do morons who don't do a scouting lap first... Actually, doing Supersprints down there with the Light Car Club was fun+++

I think i broke Shaun at Discount tyres. I have a blow off valve (uhhh its vented internally - and stock according to the previous owner). Boost Controller is no no because i can increase power by more than 15%. Intercooler ??? (looks larger than stock, and it will probably increase power by more than 15%). I told him to just make a list of what he thinks it will fail on. I'll fix what i can, then run it past Dickson, then fix what needs to be done. *sigh*

SydneyKid's findings. I'm just curious if anyone has anything to refute this -
Your First Drive In Your New Car
nsanity replied to stink's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Hah. Mine was somewhat rushed and hurried. We only had the money confirmed roughly around 3pm on Friday, so we (my partner and i) booked our flights to melbourne to head down and meet Thommo that night and have a look at our potential car. Got off the plane, found Thommo and got in. He drove to the fuel station, car was very smooth, and quiet. One thing i've always noted about Skylines is that you have to step down into them (i'm 6"3), and hopping into the drivers seat was an awkward proposition (particularly if the person beforehand is somewhat shorter than I) however i got in an drove it. Having never driven a Turbo car before, and getting used to how it behaves on and off boost was (and to some extent now - having done ~2000km in it - still is) a little weird, almost similar to an automatic in that you have to coerce it to do what you want rather than just do what you want, when you want. Of course i fell in love with it. Having been a skyline owner for little under 2 weeks now, i'm still getting the finer points down (really quick launches are still a bit wierd, I'm used to shifting around the ~100km/h mark and well, i don't want to rev it out that far in the red) but i absolutely adore the car. Spoils you really, driving anything else, particularly on highways etc, is cumbersome and overcomplicated. -
Curious as to when payment is due for this? and Account details etc.

Optimax Extreme, Boost98 And Other Ethanol Added Fuels - Verdict?
nsanity replied to nsanity's topic in General Maintenance
Being the forum called SAU, Skylines Australia, i'd assume Skylines I'll tune for it if its worth it -
hey man, if a quick bj will get you out of a ~1400 fine, why not?

We're talking long term use here guys. I've heard both good and bad about using ethanol in engines, and fuel systems. Is there any hard proof (preferrably backed by a chemical engineer or automotive engineer, not just heresay plz) either way? The anti-detonation benefits are nice, but is the corrosion rumour true?
-
From an Engineering point of view, i've heard mixed reports on it - some say its good (anti-detonation) others bad (corrosion over time). Any comments? or do i need to hassle a chemical engineer?
-
According to http://www.shell.com/home/Framework?siteId...ng_extreme.html You can get Optimax Extreme at the following places. Coles Express Dickson Cnr Antill & Badham St, Dickson, ACT Coles Express Wanniassa 6 Sangster Place, Wanniassa, ACT Anyone tried it? hows the pricing compared to BP98?
-
He clearly states in his original post that he has an RB20, not an RB25. Standard tricks, in rough order. 1. Exhaust - Turbo Back - 3+in is nice plz. 2. FMIC 3. Fuel Pump (Bosch 040/044) 4. Injectors 5. AFM 6. Aftermarket ECU + TUNE (seriously, ALWAYS get them tuned, don't be a tightass, just do it - you'll be a much happier man). 7. Think about Turbo etc...

I would have taken it to court tbh. If the guy was tailgating you for 3 suburbs, then had a go at you (no way you would have gotten 82km/h over the limit - in ANY speed range zone - if he wasn't going with you), he was clearly baiting you. You aren't allowed to encourage it, he was racing along with you - thats bullshit. Yes you were on your p's. No you probably wouldn't have got off. But Yes you would have got the asshole in trouble. I got done just coming off my p's for a "burnout". The cops were in the McDonalds drivethru, and just because i gave it a little bit more than i should have around a corner, they thought it was funny to book me for it. I had a supersize lemonade between my legs ffs - how the hell do you powerslide around a corner, and not end up with a wet lap or in the gutter? The cops couldn't even prove that i did a burnout - just had a shitty magistrate. Best thing of the day was when they were sitting their trying to book me, he's like "we're just working out if we're going to take your car away for 3 months" i replied "i wasn't street racing, there was no-one there to race against there mate, my car is roadworthy - here is the blue slip from 3 days ago, so i'm sorry officer unless the rules have changed in the last 2 weeks, that is not an option." Smug little prick walked off and spent ~30 minutes in his "big book of fines" looking for stuff to get me with, came up with nothing. Out of town cops are the worst.

I swear we should make an FAQ for this shit. Registering your Car in ACT - The SAU FAQ Q: Does anyone to do with ACT Rego have any idea about how to get your car registered here in ACT? A: No. I spoke with Shaun at Discount Tyres here in Belco, he asked a few questions (mostly about blow off valves (ffs i hate the noise, if i could make it quieter i would), lowering the car (why? suspension geometry goes out), exhaust and rims) then said no problems for tomorrow. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Generally you only machine the discs if they have noticeable wear on them (use your fingernail from the edge, if there is more than a 1 or 2mm gap, they certainly need machining, or possible replacement.).

Car Alarm Who Can Recomend A Place?
nsanity replied to CEF11E's topic in Australian Capital Territory
According to Chris Rogers, BDL is talking out their ass about Noise in the Electrics.. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=132518 BDL is the shop i went to (in belconnen). -
Just got off the phone with Dickson Inspectors. To the letter of the law is. You only need to take the vehicle to Dickson if 1. The Vehicle is less than 10 years old (mine is 1995). 2. The Vehicle is modified as per an Engineeers Certificate. 3. You have been pointed there otherwise (some inspection stations will send you there apparently). Being that my vehicle has been complied and registered in Australia, i don't need to go to dickson. Should you recieve a reinspection letter, it is them "checking up" on the inspection stations - not a "nasty" trick. I can't get a spot in Dickson till Monday, and i need my car done before then, so i'll be off to a regular inspection station. I stressed to the guy that the "word on the street" was that if you haven't gone past dickson when registering that you "magically" get a reinspection notice within 6 weeks, but he disagreed and said they were merely checking up on people. I also stressed i wanted this over and done with, and he said i'd be fine going over at a regular inspection station.

You think that Traffic offense fines go to roads and health care facilities? UNTHINKABLE! Sadly, it probably all gets routed into Travel Junkets...
-
being the lucky canberraian i am, i'll have to get them shipped. Let me know the costs.
-
So in other words, the shop was talking out its ass.

Where to get Skyline Serviced
nsanity replied to r33skylinegtst's topic in Australian Capital Territory
Gave John a call at Competition Friction, he recommended the Ferodo Racing DS2500 pads. They fit them to OEM HSV's and what not (you know, the boaty whale things...) so they will be adequate for road use (and occasional track use). ~$238 front's, $209 rears - but he did mention that i could probably swap to a cheaper rear option as the fronts do indeed do most of the braking work. They are located in Murrambatemen apparently, but can organise to get the stuff to Canberra. -

Camber Adjustment
nsanity replied to Cro_boy_Mario's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Actually, Camber is somewhat bad for your tyres and will cause severe uneven wear if applied too liberally. Negative Camber (which is what you're chasing) will make your tyres wear on the inside more than normal, at a benefit of giving you greater tyre contact patch whilst cornering. Off the top of my head, i used to run 3 1/4 degree neg camber on the front, and well the rear wasn't adjustable on my GTR XU1 Torana, absolutely perfect for twisty mountain runs and Mount Panorama, wear was reasonable as well. Dropping one's car 3 inches is almost stupid imho, you throw out all the suspension geometry, ride on bumpstops, and in general the car will handle much worse. For best results, sit down with an Suspension engineer, work out the angles of your geometry, then setup your car up from there. But of course, thats some $$$ involved AND wont make your car look phat at the macca's drivethru whilst you scrape your body kit over the marginally illegal speed humps. Alternatively, buy one of SydneyKids pre-configured setups for probably the cheapest better-than-stock setups you're likely to get.
