Hi guys, I have a mildly tuned skyline that seems to have everything done to it, bar injectors and AFM. Thanks to someone's "tuning" guide on the forums (can't remember the name) it mentions that before you bolt a new turbo on, AFM upgrade is a good idea. The guide mentions that in higher output situations the Q45 has a higher throughput, and i'm wondering if there is any reason why you wouldn't just grab a Q45 as opposed to a Z32 (less response maybe?)? Currently have a stock Turbo, but like i said, its AFM then injectors then turbo (with a full tune in there somewhere too) to push to 250ish rwkw (from 194 noe). Any advice would be appreciated, as i come from a Carby Background, bolting on a 780cfm Rochester doesn't look like it would do the job . Cheers, Geoff

Knocking is another term for detonation. When you have a high compression within the cylinder head, under some circumstances, the fuel/air mix can explode, rather than burn. This is VERY bad, and can lead to all sorts of very Expensive engine work required. As said, one of the quickest ways to produce it is to up the compression within the head, but things like hotspots in the combustion chamber (which is why deburring and port/head polishing exists) can also cause it. Decent fuel, water injection, heaps of advance are all "cures" to this nasty nasty problem. It sounds like a little piece metel ticking on a glass bulb when you hear it, and is usually most noticable under very high load situations. As i understand the Powerfc has a meter that measures the "loudness" of the Knock, i'm told that its not a huge issue till you push 60 under load (if you're getting values off power - you're in trouble), however my sexy little beast is flat out to push 15 on BP Ultimate.

wtf. This isn't New York, let alone even Sydney. Honestly, i'd be inclined to believe that there was more than just a car at stake here. Particularly over a BMW.

At the time i was in Victoria This was roughly 3 years ago as well. I'm aware that most of them are the same stuff now.

i remember now, it burned to the ground, made national news too..

this is all going back a long time ago, and the engine in question was a 9.5:1 medium tuned 308 pushing 260 - 300kw. Optimax: Ok performance, fouled plugs however. BP Ultimate: Sharper and more responsive, drank more however. Mobil Synergy 8000: very-Slight pinging (go find a hill in the bottom of 3rd), similar to Optimax in performance. And thats all that was out. As far as things goes now, i'm not sure - My Skyline is dedicated to BP Ultimate at the moment (i'm not overly keen to try optimax, even thou i have iridium plugs - plug fouling was terrible) , altho i'd be interested to see what else is availiable - $1.55 a litre roughly doing 2 - 2.5 tanks a week is somewhat painful on the wallet. I mean i'll continue to pay it without batting an eyelid (i drive a performance vehicle, its a premium i pay), but to see what other options there are would be nice (finding any service station in canberra is a pita).

Saw a silver R33 gtst on heading towards weston creek on hindmarsh.

Depends on the light you see it in. You can see it green, blue (mostly), bluey-green. as the missus would say, its absolutely gorgeuous Thommo had pics that showed it as more of a green colour, its really mostly blue tho. I float about most of canberra, as i'm a roaming tech with sites in Belconnen, Civic, the Airport, Woden and I live around Tuggernong as well. Best way to pic it is the plates, i haven't swapped them over to ACT yet.

yes. God its been well looked after. Worth every penny imho.

Ok well i just got off the phone to the Rego mob. I told the lady exactly my details (bought it in Melbourne, it has ~1 month left on it rego, I have an ACT license) and was told the following I need to go to Dickson, or any Authorised Inspection station and get a roadworthy certificate. (I confirmed this twice.) I need to bring my Bill of Sale I need to bring my License I need to bring a secondary form of ID It will cost me $37 admin $64 application fee $642.60 rego (12 months) $x @ 3% of purchase price - Stamp Duty. Cool. So who is a good mob that can do some work (i need the oil pressure switch changed - i have the part), give it a look over and give me a ceritificate for the ACT? Belconnen would be preferred as i can probably get that done tomorrow.

The Car has been Complied since 1998... So do i visit a rego check? or dickson - i'm not really keen on going to dickson, i hear bad things, and i'd rather go there later rather than sooner.

Rego? or interstate move? My "cockpit" looks like so Also will the steering wheel cause any problems? Regarding Exhaust Noise, unless someone pushes past about 3 - 3.5k you are never going to notice it. Lovely piece of work.

Rego? or interstate move? My "cockpit" looks like so Is the PFC Hand Controller and Boost Controller going to cause "dramas"? Should i hide them (or disconnect totally for the inspection etc..) Regarding Exhaust Noise, unless someone pushes past about 3 - 3.5k you are never going to notice it. Lovely piece of work.

like so?

hey guys, i'm picking up my skyline from melbourne tonight, however he's been told he needs an Airbox on for the RWC. Now i can't borrow his mates one here in Canberra. The quesiton is, am i likely to get pulled up on it here in Canberra at Dickson? Is there someone i can talk to about getting it sorted out here?

ta, i just got a quote for PFC, Apexi Boost controller, Bosch 040 pump installation and Tuning (of the car) for ~870 all up. not sure if its a good deal or not, but it means everything is done, so it would make me happy. -

is that in Chapman or Queanbeyen? Whitepages says Queanbeyen, but the Address map location is Chapman? Got an Address? -

I'm looking at getting a PFC+Boost Controller and Fuel Pump installed, as well as getting a car tuned for it, just curious of the choices i have (maybe someone should update the original post with a list of places in Canberra to get things done at, rather than having to trapse through a 16 page thread
