Can anyone tell me what this box does??
32godzilla replied to 32godzilla's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks Steve, any idea how it actually works? -
Hi all, I was re-aligning my bumper today and found a strange looking plastic box (see pic), with a duct attached. The reason I say strange is that air feeds into it but doesn't go anywhere, the only thing connected is the incoming air duct. I know this is trivial but I'm curious. Anyone got any idea??

Cleaning haze off R33 Headlights

like Godzilla33 said, just use normal polish.. -
Why are 34 GTR's still so expensive??
32godzilla replied to 32godzilla's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Prank, you could always buy an R33 400R, there's one for $82,000 - should hold its value!! -

34's might be in Australia but not in Japan, that's my point. $30,000 is the going rate for the average 32 GTR in Japan, with the cheapest around the $17,000 mark. -
Hi people, after browsing the net for quite sometime especially the Zele International Japanese website (www.zele-international.com), and noting car prices in Japan I'm just wondering why the hell R34 GTR prices are still so high. The average prices for 34 GTR's are around $53,000-$59,000 and you can pick some up for as little as $45,000. Now surely it doesn't cost $40,000 to import and comply so what the hell is going on?? Do we just get the cream of the 34's or do importers just make a killing? Am I missing something? BTW it's strange how well 32 GTR's are holding their value with most going for around $30,000.

Good to see everyone out and finally put some faces to names. I did 13 passes and my clutch didn't even stink on the way home!! Even though the commentator (Andrew I think) thought I was trying to fry it, with so many runs in a row. The track was bloody slippery at first but good to see some nice rubber laid down throughout the day. I finally broke into the 12.4's running 15PSI with a 12.421 at 110.26MPH (60' 1.835sec).
-
Matt, I've got some good footage of your "flame run". I'll post it soon, has JMS fixed it up?? Hope everything's okay.
-
yeah okay, I see what you're saying. I must admit it's hard getting a decent launch without revving the hell out of it and dropping it!! Some people look at you strange when you do that at the lights!! To the doctor, I just assumed R33's could just have the fuse pulled 'cause I've seen them on the 2WD dyno at Tilbrook's and remember Mark mumbling something about how the fuses are in different places for the various models and he has trouble remembering where they are. Anyone out there with a 33/34 GTR that can confirm this??
-
Irich, GTR's behave like that normally. If I drop the clutch at say 6000rpm, the back wheels will light up momentarily then front torque comes in, and by that time your definately in the 3500-4000rpm where the turbos start pulling hard.
-
Irich.... plenty of GTR questions, thinking of getting one?? Putting a GTR into 2WD is as simple as pulling the fuse, no damage done whatsoever. Doesn't matter if it's a 32, 33 or 34. BTW, the HKS torque splitter you mentioned in another post can have a drag unit connected to it for burn out purposes. The torque splitter is approx. $1350 and the drag unit is approx. $350, but it is quite easy to make a switch up for about $10. You can flick the switch from 4WD to 2WD at ANY speed, but to go back to 4WD you need to come to a complete stop before the computer will allow the car back into 4WD.
-
I've never used one, but the HKS units plug into the ATTESA computer and override the signals. You can dial in how much front torque you want - simple as that. I'm not sure if John Munro has still got the HKS unit in the silver 33 GTR he bought off Doug (different car from the 9 sec GTR), maybe he could enlighten you....

How do u tell a V spec?
32godzilla replied to usuckpoo's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
If anyone has High Performance Imports mag no. 16, there is a 2 page article on the R33 V-SPEC differences. I have scanned these pages (hopefully HPI won't mind), so if anyone is interested post or PM your email and I'll send them through. (191Kb & 220Kb). -
Any GTR guards for sale?? Re: crash
32godzilla replied to 32godzilla's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Thanks red17, I'll let the insurance company know. It'd definately be better to have a new panel, not that rust would be a problem with them being aluminium. -
Just had some arsehole try to do a u turn on a round-a-bout in the left lane and wipe me out!! Wondering if anyone knows where I can get a front LH R32 GTR fender and indicator from?? I've looked through the FOR SALE section and haven't found anything. I know the insurance will have to find the replacement panel but god knows how long that will take....

This is a touchy subject isn't it!!! From my knowledge GTR's have a restrictor and not GTS-T's, as I've previously owned a GTS-T. I don't want to get into this argument but after reading HPI GT-R special edition no.2 (see below) I removed my restrictor and yes I received a very stable 14.5PSI. I have scanned page 33 from this magazine if anyone is interested. BTW I'm not saying that magazines are gospel or anything but this info is from a pretty reputable workshop.

GTR street Drag record smashed again!
32godzilla replied to Munro's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Congrats John!! How was it that you raced on the 26th??? Did you guys hire out the track?? Would've loved to check it out - maybe next time. Are you still coming out May 31st? BTW I've got access to a small broadcast camera (SONY PD-150P) I'd love to strap in your car somehow for some awesome footage! -
I've been wondering lately if a 2WD car with exactly the same power and weight as a full time 4WD car would be quicker over the 1/4 mile without taking into account traction, wheelspin etc etc. The reason I'm wondering this is why the GTR was built with a Torque split converter and not full time 4WD?? Is it to basically give grip for the initially takeoff then once wheelspin isn't a problem put all the power through the rear wheels to cut drivetrain loss?
-
There's not a hell of a lot of things to worry about. You need a decent helmet that complies with Aussie Standards. You're overflow coolant pipe musn't spill onto the ground. Your steering must be tight, i.e. no play. Your wheels should have steel caps, plastic are shunned upon. Anything else??

R32 Tail Lights, 2 Or 4.
32godzilla replied to 32godzilla's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I finally had a look the other day and yes there was a green wire in each light cut, just crimped them back together and 4 lights. Prank, that sounds about right but why then do R31 Skylines have the same set up i.e. 5 brake lights and parker lights?? -
R32 Tail Lights, 2 Or 4.
32godzilla replied to 32godzilla's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Thanks for the info people, I'll have a look for any "cut" wires and post another reply as soon as I find anything. Four lights look better lit up than two i reckon - that's all. (like the 33's) deorbit, not sure what front lip I've got as it came with the car, and to be honest never realised until about 2 weeks ago when I checked out another 32 GTR! -
I've noticed that some R32 tail lights only light up 2 lamps, and others light up all 4. Anyone know how to modify them so that all 4 light up with the parkers/lights on??
-
I believe there wasn't much difference, the Aussie GTR got an oil cooler for the transfer case, and maybe an engine oil cooler but I'm not completely sure. The Aussie delivered normally fetch a lot more than the imports. 2 weeks ago I saw a black R32 GTR at Peter Davey Toyota for $44950!!

Champinco, I owned an R33 GTS-T before my GTR, and that was insured through Just Cars. I paid $1299 p.a. and was rating one. (I'm 28) When I changed over the car Just Cars offered to swap my insurance over from the 33 to the 32 with no more cost. But they wouldn't insure it for market value, only $33,000. So now I'm with Famous which cost $1720 p.a. and they've insured it with an agreed value of $37,000 and I get a free windscreen if I need it and a few other things. Basically, shop around - there's not a hell of a lot of companies out there that will touch a Jap import, but depending on the cost I'd go the full comp for piece of mind, you'll need a good security system (that's compulsory with any insurance), but I don't think you need to go Sat Nav. Anyway, you'll probably end up paying at least $35000-4000 I'd think considering you've never had insurance. Lastly I had my R33 for 2 years and never had anyone attempt to break into it, the only thing was someone snapped off the Nissan badge thing covering the boot lock.
