Duncan's Race Car - The Most Overdue Build Thread On Sau
Neil replied to Duncan's topic in Motorsport Builds
Here's a classic I have from Oran Park GP,,,Check out the Start,,,I was stoked and I'll bet the Handley Household was too. Can't quite remember what happened but I do know I sent hours fixing all sorts of water hose problems. I think in the end we gave up with a head gasket blown. From memory I made like 4 of us remove cams and all that shit so I could check the head bolts were tight enough,,,pity was they were and then we gave Duncan all his bits in a box,,,pushed the bitch onto the trailer and went home. If you wondered what car I hate more than a Commodore it's bloody evo's,,,. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEcqwjHBCB0 -

Wow,,,slow down tiger,,, You have just about summarized your years of racing in a couple of posts. Please remember some of us have hard drives as well,,, This being a classic from Kel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaqFaBC2QrI Go DUNKY. -
Hey Dan,,,glad to see you are still lurking around SAU,,,. It's not really that hard,,,then again I sort out a person that actually knows aero and he basically told me "Flat Floor all the way to just in front of the rear diff and then add a diffuser for rear down force". Much like my Radical,,,so this is stage 1 or attempt 1. I will be making a full under floor system down the road,,,but I need to conn Duncan into using his hoist again. No way can you do it on stands. Charles,,, http://www.alusign.com.au/ It's just .3 aluminium top and bottom with a polyethylene sandwiched in between sign boarding. He usually only sells it in orders of 30 sheets but I told him a little lie and bought 1 sheet under the premise I would give him a big order next time. It works great on hillclimb open wheeler cars that don't use carbon fibre. It's so easy to cut,,,I used a jigsaw to cut the front and a sharp knife to do the rest. Noddy,,, looks like you stopped at the rear of your front bar,,,not saying you are right or wrong,,,just wondering why,,,is it a rule thing maybe?. Cheers Neil.

I have told you over and over again big boy,,,keep an eye in your mirrors because I'm going to beat YOU. Cheers Neil

Unfortunatey I only have pics of your beautiful bum crack sweety. Cheers Neil -
Ha Ha that's very amusing,,,I would like to go back there for another go as it's much better than the goat track from this years Aussie hillclimb nats. I would have much rathered stick her into the nuts as well,,,much less damage. How cool are the macadamia shells for slowing a car down. Cheers Neil

Bloody hell...what about yesterday,,,I think the 30/11/2014 will now be known as the day I actually started hating working on racecars. After huntley hillclimb Cheryl went into the garage running as usual,,,beautifully. I had started making a front splitter for her and conned Duncan into using his hoist. Start her up and she's misfiring,,,pop the bonnet and could see nothing wrong and quite frankly paid it no real attention. 1/2 an hour later she's purring like a kitten again and onto the trailer. Get to Duncans and she's back to misfiring again. On to the hoist spent some hours finishing the splitter and now she won't even start. We checked everything,,,included removing all the intake pipes and hoses,,AFM,,,Coils,,,crank sensor,,,you name it we checked it. So in the end the only thing that had changed between huntley and now was I had put 20 litres of fuel in her,,,so we drained the tank and put 20 litres of fresh fuel in her,,,still nothing. By this time I getting very pissed off,,,Duncan's good in these situations and keeps a level head,,,me I could have started throwing spanners but hey they were his. So with all the cranking it was time to pull the spark plugs which were new and give them a clean,,,they were very wet. Wire brushed them and she started and ran as usual. Figger that out,,,we have fixed something,,,god only knows what,,,so time to go back onto the trailer and the bloody heavens open up. 9.00pm on a Sunday night 2 drowned rats later and well someones old tow car starts playing up,,,but thats another story. Cheers Neil.

I've been meaning to replace my original clutch hose for years but had never got around to it. I had previously bought a stainless replacement hose but Abobob gave me a bango to bango one with a length of heatshielding, so I thought okay it's about time. Off to Earl's for 2 bango bolts and some washers. Turns out the bolt at the master cylinder end is way to long and normally I would have just hacksawed it off but since I bought this little lathe,,, machining it to length was a breeze and no thread cleaning. The lathe has turned out to be a great tool,,,I can now make all sorts of bushes, spacers, cut stuff down and although I haven't tried yet it will cut thread as well. Cheers Neil.

Oil Pressure And Water Temp Gauge Install Help?
Neil replied to suwidji's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Don't worry about it,,,tell one of the boys at Just Jap what car you have and they will know what size top radiator hose adaptor you will need. Take your water temp sender with you and make sure it screws in. It shouldn't screw in all the way because it has a tappered thread,,,but again the boys will point you in the right direction. That little screw is very important though,,,it needs a wire attached to it and earthed on the body. Cheers Neil. -
Well it's been a while since any updates and some positive things have happened which is very pleasing. I've been having a problem with boost coming on at 6000 grand and for the life of me I couldn't work out why. Thanks to Mark at Unigroup the problem is now solved. Turns out my boost controller was have hissy fits, so I sent it off to the great people at Turbosmart and they fixed it for free even though it was bought off ebay and out of warranty. Back on the dyno and boost now comes on at about 2800. I got Mark to lower the power while he was playing, so i now have 235 kilowatts on low boost. I then decided to lower the rev limiter from 8500 to a more respectful 7300. I went off and did the Aussie hillclimb champs and a Huntley hillclimb event and Cheryl ran perfectly. Hmmm Grid Girls Cheers Neil.

Duncan's Race Car - The Most Overdue Build Thread On Sau
Neil replied to Duncan's topic in Motorsport Builds
See the problem we have here Zebs is where does this all lead,,,DEATH trailer stories would be an entertaining thread on their own. Mel & I borrowed it once and once only,,,we used it to go to our 1st hillclimb up at Bulladelah,,,shit you not a cross brace on the front broke off and no way could you go over 80kmh or the death wobbles would take over. Moving the car around on the trailer made absolutely no difference. Man that was a scary drive. We bought our own trailer after that and big boy Fatz is still using it. Ask Handles about our wonderful journey back from Wakie one frightful night. -
Duncan's Race Car - The Most Overdue Build Thread On Sau
Neil replied to Duncan's topic in Motorsport Builds
Ah Yes Mr Slacko harrassed the shit out of me about putting up a build thread and sat back and did nothing. I gotta tell ya Nigel there have been plenty of times his bitch has been pushed,,,shoved,,,winched and even driven onto the DEATH trailer with no clutch. I can't wait for the loss of blood stories.I have seen Mr handles turn white as a ghost on numerous occasions. -
Just wondering if anybody else is booked or going to book this last track day at Wakie for the year. I'm almost ready,,,well not really as I'm trying to make my 1st attempt at a front splitter so hopefully it will be done and ready by the end of this weekend. I'm trying to get into the 1.10's,,,1.11's I need to say goodbye to. Cheers Neil.

I'll bet Jenna's a happy girl now,,,a whole weekend of abuse and the R33 comes home in one piece. Very happy for ya tiger. Cheers Neil. -
I would have thought GTR owners would stock up on ENGINES,,,ENGINES and MORE f**kIN ENGINES. Cheers Neil.
-
Add 5 grand to your budget and you can own my GTS-T. Very reliable,,,conservative power and well built. Cheers Neil.

Yep Harry totally agree,,, I use Ram suction cups on the outside with a stainless steel tether and a clamped mounting on the inside. The reason I asked cams is because the club running the hillclimb nats are very pedantic and their camera paperwork states you can only run cameras inside car so it will be interesting at scruteening. Cheers Neil.

Bathurst 2014 Tariff 2 Super Cars Discussion
Neil replied to evil_weevil's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Mathews ,,,V8 stupid cars don't care about tv ratings from the smaller events. They are after the foxtel dollars because that was the best way to put bucks back in the pockets of the whinging teams that cockren promised they would get. Theres a team entering next year that I have been a fan of for many many,,,(back to Rick Mears days) years and Roger would not have bought stupid DJR if he didn't think A/ He could make money B/ He could win C/ He stole Ambrose from nascar and D/ It would help his trucking businesses. Penske is no fool and I would be very worried if I was Roland wanker Dane. -
Yea Mazman, all it is now is an extended goat track. I'm really only going because I'm in need of some track time and I'm going to do the whole NSW championship next year. Cheers Neil.

I'm off to the Aussie Hillclimb Nats in a couple of weeks and as it's a national event I have to abide by most or is that all FIA and all National rules. So I thought I better catch up on the latest camera rules and after searching cams website for ages I came up with nothing, so I rang the lovely technical guru in Melbourne being Simone. Lovely lady and very helpful as always. Seems the reason theres nothing on their website anymore is because cams are trying to draft some real rules for next year. Here's the email she sent me:- Hi Neil, Thank you for your call. As there are no full regulations on cameras in cars please find below an article to be released today to all scrutineers which does offer some guidance. We also recommend you follow any guidelines from the Australian Hillclimb Championship documentation too. Thank you and all the best! Simone Helmet and Car Cameras Further to the information released earlier this year, this article seeks to remind scrutineers on the use of cameras and some points to consider when deeming their use fit for purpose. CAMS Technical are working on regulations regarding the mounting of cameras but in the meantime here are a few guidelines. Under no circumstances, aside from the F1 teams which have tiny cameras built into their helmets by the helmet manufacturers, are helmets to be fitted with cameras or even camera mounts. The FIA have advised that helmets are safety devices and should not currently be used for any other purpose. There may also be legal issues in regards to this, particularly for rally competitors on transport sections using open roads. According to the Drivers Equipment section (Chapter 3, Article 1.3, Modifications) Appendix L of the International Sporting Code, it is forbidden for a camera to be mounted on the helmet. No helmet may be modified from its specification as manufactured, except in compliance with instructions approved by the manufacturer and one of the FIA listed standards organisations which have certified the model concerned. Any other modification will render the helmet unacceptable for the requirements of the present Article 1. The SFI Foundation follow the same logic with their concern being that the camera and/or mount will act as an anvil against the helmet and cause impact where before there was space, ie contact with the cage, roof, seat, window, co-driver, etc. The SFI believe that the benefits of cameras from a marketing or entertainment point of view do not outweigh the risks associated with having such attachments on a helmet when there are other safer locations for cameras to be installed in a vehicle, such as the roll cage. There is constant developing of both cameras and helmets however, so in the future we will surely see safe options developed between helmet and camera manufacturers which will pass FIA and/or SFI testing but at this stage please advise competitors against any fitment of any camera equipment or mounts to their helmets. Even mounts without the camera will render a helmet non-compliant. For cameras mounted in the cockpit of a vehicle suction cups are adequate but the camera shall also be tethered. Use of a cable tie as the tether is adequate. Go Pro® style rigid clamp systems are also acceptable, as are the stick-on mounts, using double sided tape such as the 3M® brand. Externally cameras should be mounted via rigid attachment, again the use of the stick-on mounts is acceptable. Consideration should be given to the amount of the camera that is beyond the profile of the vehicle and perhaps presenting a further risk to other vehicles or even marshals, or in the case of a rally, spectators. Any externally mounted camera must be secure and therefore the use of a suction cup mount alone is not acceptable, as they shall require an additional tether. If you have any questions please contact CAMS Technical via email at [email protected] or call us on 1300 883 959. Thank you! Bathurst 2014 Tariff 2 Super Cars Discussion
Neil replied to evil_weevil's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Have a read of this and tell me we are all wrong,,,well except for Ben, http://www.speedcafe.com/2014/10/13/epic-bathurst-draws-strong-television-audience/ Really channel 7 should be ashamed of themselves,,,they had over an hours extra time during the lunch inverval to punch out heaps of ads but still ran tons after the resumption. Glad I have foxtel,,,but I don't watch that much v8's anymore. There's much better racing on the speed channel elsewhere around the world and now bloody foxtel is changing there channels,,,you can't win. Cheers Neil.
