I beleive I'm booked for mid January mate,,,is that correct or would you like Cheryl sooner?. Cheers Neil.
-
Well I hope everyone had a great christmas. Boxing day's work started at about 11pm,,,Duncan started helping me remove the rear suspension so I could change all the rear arms to the nismo ones. Smart boy stopped that painful job and left me to snap the ball joints ect,,,which was cool,,,no point both us yelling,,,swearing and cursing. He started removing all the rubbish wiring from the rear harness,,,must say I was very nervous seeing all those bloody wires being removed. I beleive he removed all the hycas and stereo wiring,,,nice work tiger. I always love the lines we use when working on each others car,,,"Not my car mate" and "I need a Glory job mate". He came back in the late arvo to install the hicas removal bar,,,It's quite frightening how much movement there is in the bushings without the rack fitted,,,even with nismo bushes. If the car wasn't being setup to Targa spec I would look into changing everything to eliminate the bar completely. We had a very brief look at how to install a rear tow hook,,,no way am I cutting the rear bar and Nissan's factory hook is not low enough to actually pull Cheryl out of even a sand trap without ripping the bar off. On closer inspection I realised the factory one is un-boltable so I've come up with this plan. Little bit of weld love and it will be done. Two pair of these turned up today out of HKS USA. They are rear upper mounts but with some stud changes one pair will be used on the front. Funny though the nuts are different threads,,,you would have thought the Japs and the Germans would use the same. No biggy just more work. What's even funnier was the delivered price,,,John at UAS has A pair that he's had for years and I offered him 260 buck but no he wanted 400,,,. Sucked in Johnny I bought 2 pair for less than what I offered you. Unfortunately for me we have a GTR to put back together so Monday and Tuesday were spent doing that. Not complaining,,,I was booked ages ago. Cheers and have a HAPPY new year. Neil.

Brad,,,do the peterson tanks seperate in the middle like these???. http://www.larnerengines.com.au/Details.asp?ProductID=86 Remember I'm only researching at the moment guys,,,but it has to happen sooner or later. Ryan,,,No to the pedal box mate,,,no need for that stuff till I have decided the factory brakes are past their use by date. I'm not allowed to have the cage entering the under-bonnet area. Brad had a top idea though of running tubes out through the skirt area and welded to the inner of the strut tower which would make it legal,,,but quite frankly where do you start and stop. I could turn this car into a marathon build if I'm not careful,,,Duncan,,,Kelly and I want to drive Cheryl early next year. Cheers Neil.

Yea I know,,,just trying not to get raped. I'm only at the stage of researching and no-where near buying anything,,,actually thats not totally true,,,I'm looking at buying the tank so I can mount it,,,drill the holes and paint the boot area. That way I can close the boot-lid knowing that section is done. Cheers Neil.

Your a funny f**k Brad. You will be happy to know tiger that I am researching dry sump systems at the moment. So cool Targa allows such things,,,almost every class of racing should allow such an engine saving system. My biggest question though is how do I get a pulley attached to the front of the crank?. Cheers Neil.

Sent you a message tonight mate,,,I would like my loaned parts back please. It's rather annoying,,,other peeps need to clear their defects as well and as I told you I need some of those bits for my own car. Cheers Neil.
-
Well Targa rules say I can change internals,,,but I have to retain the original casings,,,same with the diff. I'm thinking I'll re-build my standard box,,,get the car to where I'm happy with it's power and then think about gearbox ratio's later. Dog box is the prefered way to go,,,mainly because it's stronger,,,I'd cry breaking 3rd gear on day 2 because it's the poor bastard which will cop the most punishment. No I can't run a sequential,,,that would have been cool though wouldn't it. I have a nismo locker in the car at the moment and for the life of me I can't remember what ratio it is,,,I have it written down somewhere in all my paper work. I also have my standard diff which is a single spinner at the moment,,,so I'm looking at nismoing that as well. Diffs are so easy to change in a gts-t,,,,1 hour and it's done. Cheers Neil.

Today started much like every other Sunday,,,cleaning up for more than 2 hours,,,god even on my own I'm very capable of making a bloody mess and It still is. Did some work on the Radicals body work,,,just fixing her battle scars. Fibreglass prep is no fun,,,but she needs it to be done. Cheryl got some serious grinding action ,,,so many un-needed brackets were removed and then 4 hours of wire wheel shit. Seam sealer is every where on her. Three vacuum bags later I'm quessing 2 more kilo's are out of her,,,. Sold all my boot trim as well and helped him out with fitting it,,,so a pretty good day. I had to stop work at 4.00pm as Mel was in the back yard doing the garden,,,I thought that was very un-fair so I spent 2 hours doing the same. All in all a good weekends work,,,bonus was I got to talk to Brad face to face about what I want as a cage which is much better than exchanging pm's and e-mails. Cheers Neil.

Arthur,,,thanks for the gearbox link,,,pity it was in W.A.,,,I bought Brad's one today,,so that little problem is solved. Now that I have two,,,one will be re-built back to factory spec and the other will get an aftermarket gearset. Haven't decided which brand yet though. Damo,,,thanks for the insite in to the "brown box" issue,,,seems it will have to stay then,,,oh I thought about some hot chicks and quess what,,,I decided not to. I'm glad you are liking the idea of 33 Gts-t race cars,,,I think it's a better choice than a 32. I had a bit to do with a D/A drift car some years ago,,,it worked very well indeed. Thanks Brad,,,you made finding what I was after in a gearbox exactly what I needed. Cheers boys Neil.

I got the afternoon off work yesterday,,,my boss is a bloody great bloke,,,are you reading this Richard???, so I thought an arvo's work was a great idea. Spent an hour in the garage and thought this is bloody stupid,,,the fan and roof sprinklers were doing jackshit so I stopped and went out and bought an air-con unit for the sauna room. Now all I need to do is the basic install and pay someone to do the pipes and gas it up. Cool in summer,,,warm in winter,,,I like. When I started the build my only real deadline was targa tas in 2012 and quite frankly that would have me being very lazy and cruisey,,,What I really needed is something sooner,,,Troy started a thread about World Time Attack which got me thinking,,,August next year is a very achieveable goal. So now thats the plan. Cheers Neil.
-
I'd forgotten all about this,,,.I subscibed to the newsletter today,,,so looks like the gts-t has a dead line now. Thanks Troy for starting the thread or I would have not known. Cheers Neil.

Interesting pics tiger,,,looks like the right rear tyre is trying it's hardest to escape the rim. Nice work smashing those poor defencless ripple strips by the way,,,I'm proud of you. Cheers
-
RIP big fella,,,you will never be forgotten. Good and bad,,,you did wonders for motorsport the world over in your own way. Neil.

R33 Gts T Full Manual Conversion Kit
Neil replied to danny14's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
No,,,rules say YOU HAVE to post a price. -
Spent Saturday,,,researching again. I'm chasing a 2nd gearbox so I can run an after-market gear set. Bloody hell every bastard wants them,,,for SR powered cars and VL's. $1500 for a second hand un-known one is serious rubbish money,,,I'll keep looking but,,,I've just about decided that I have 2 options,,,ask in our wanted section for a crunchy one or look at importing a car. Sunday,,,started at 8.30 and had to stop at 2.00pm,,,I'm getting way to old to put in a full day in this heat. I started with cleaning up again,,,it's so easy to make a mess. I decided I needed to start covering the holes left after the sound-deadening fun we had. I found 3 of the 4 big steel plugs and after removing 5mm of crap off them,,,I welded them in. I couldn't find the 4th one so we ventured down to Clark Rubber to buy some rubber grommets to block the firewall holes,,,floor holes and the hycass hole in the boot,,,or should I say I bent over and got raped. $40 buck for 13 grommets just isn't fair,,,What would they cost them,,,20 cents each. Anyway as Mel said on the way home,,,"You needed them so cop it on the chin my love". Started looking at removing the carbon canister and all it's pipes and hoses,,,but I need 2 peeps to do to properly. Cheers Neil.

Here you go mate,,,the price I posted was out of Auto Action last week. http://www.motec.com.au/m84/m84overview/ Cheers Neil.
-
Tlley in his Camaro would be the only driver that comes to my mind. Cheers Neil.
-
Nice,,,but at this stage,,,a simple cheap system will do for the time being if I even bother. While it would be great,,,in my big picture using Motec will do everything I need after the engines are done. The entry level M84 at rrp of $2420 is great value I think. Cheers Neil.

I don't think it really matters if it's a Turbo or N/A. I think you need to shift within the maximum torque rang. If the engine is going to detonate,,,then you have built rubbish and the builder should sell home vacuum cleaners door to door. That where the power is,,,so use it!!!. The Radical is a prime example,,,Eastern Creek is a pain in the arse. While I need as much straight line speed as I can get,,,the biggest corner I have trouble with is turn 6. I come out of 5 flat out and either need to change to 5th or hold 4th way past what I should. My fastest laps are when I change to 5th because it's in my torque range. Basically I've used all my pulling power and no amount of revs are going to get me there any quicker,,,sure it sounds like it is,,,but that's a crap lap. So in summary,,,there's a lot to be said about not only using the torque curve,,,but also your diff ratio's. Skylines would be much quicker if you could change them to suit both E/C and Wakie of which I'll bet nobody does. Cheers Neil.
-
Well actually Yes,,,what did you have in mind?. I've seen this puppy in a certain GTR,,,just not the gauge. Cheers Neil.

No mate it's all over red rover. It was costing way to much money. Apparently some marketing nood at BMW/Mini thought it would make money,,,alas he learned a valueable lesson didn't he. Mini's have an achelles heal,,,they run that stupid twin mass flywheel and a crappy clutch combo. Alajajian was telling me they would change or at least check the whole assembly after every race meeting. Would be a great track car with simply getting that crap sorted. Cheers Neil.
-
After last weekends research,,,speaking to some people,,,I decided on a boost controller. Just bought this Cheers Neil.
-
No Mark YOU need to take some control,,,I've never ever met a tuner that thinks the more power I show this guy the happier he'll be. That fact you need to get out of his head,,,tell him that while you love the big numbers you really would like a very drivable car with a big degree of safeness. No point running up the numbers,,,maxing out injectors ect. Tell him you will be going to places like Bathurst hill climbs at altitude,,,so you make him back off a bit. Cheers Neil.
-
Mark,,,I wouldn't be to concerned with how much power you have or can make,,,I would be looking at how much maximum torque you have "where" in the rev range and sticking to that. Sure for fun and giggles have a big horsepower setting,,,but really big usable torque will get you fast times everytime. Cheers Neil.

Picked this up tonight,,,I spent literally hours on the net looking for a good one,,,found one on e-bay that I liked only to be out-bid in the last 15 seconds,,,sucked in to whoever beat me,,,you paid to much money. Hge disappointment,,,so I logged onto SAU and what was sitting in the "New Posts" another bloody PFC. Quick call and sold,,,nice bloke to boot with some really cool Staffie dogs and pups. He made 230 kilo's so it will have a good starting point. This will do for a while as I really do want motec. Cheers Neil.
