What Duncan Said,,,"Brake Cleaner". It's my mechanic in a Can. Cleans AFM's,,,funny enough brakes (removes spilt brake fluid as well as cleaning brake grunge. This stuff SHOULD be in everybodies toolkit. I even use it to clean up his oil seepage between races. If you really want to do a test,,,get a clean piece of glass and spray some carby cleaner,brake cleaner and contact cleaner on it, one at a time and you tell me the results. Neil.

Need more info,,,I assume you are using a sandwich plate between the motor and oil filter. Did you install a remote oil filter as well.? Neil.

A quick and simple test is to try to drive off in 3rd gear. You will soon find out if the clutch is slipping. My question though is what type of smell is it. Have you ever been on a train and get that pugnet smell? if so that its brakes and the clutch smells almost the same. It can't be the the air con because if it was leaking the smell would be long gone. Randy's right if it is the clutch it will only get worse and not far into the future. Get it looked at soon,,,not every flywheel needs machining because of a slightly slipping clutch,,,mine didn't. Neil.

Merlin,,,is your rear brace mounted in the boot area or on the top of the parcel shelf?. Neil.

Lee,,,unless you have a re-built motor thats not something I would recommend. Flushing an older motor will only start shortening your motors life. The small crud build up in older motors helps stop lifter,ring land and other interior parts from losing there bedded in tolerences. Neil.

Strut braces do very little,,,they do not reduce body roll at all. 2 things that strut braces do are 1/ Help mantain wheel alignment by reducing strut tower flex 2/ Look good Neil.
