My Restoration
mark32gts-t replied to Godzilla32's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Hey Deren, I was wondering what you plan on doing for the interior? As the rest of the car will be basicly new. Will you be getting new interior parts, the ones that are available or only replacing the ones that show their age? I've seen a few parts you can get new, like the arm rest, hand brake assembly, gear boot, console surround and rear quarter trim: some pics maybe you will go for a retrim. but from what you have said I presume you want it as factory as possible. You are doing a top job on your car. I am sure many skyline owners envy your dedication. Mark -
Diff Whine - R32 Gtst 150k
mark32gts-t replied to MichaelB's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
taking the diff out isn't that hard. unbolt the drive shafts, unbolt the shaft coming from the gear box. and then there are two bolts at the front to remove, and i think 2 or 4 on the back. For $950 you could buy a 2-way, or 1.5-way. for a gearbox shop to just have a look/listen they probably wouldn't charge you. but i spose different places may charge. anyone recommend a gearbox/diff shop? in brisbane -
Diff Whine - R32 Gtst 150k
mark32gts-t replied to MichaelB's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I've heard good things about redline. so if i change I will be changing to that. Dont think it will get rid of the whine. maybe just make it easier to live with. -

Diff Whine - R32 Gtst 150k
mark32gts-t replied to MichaelB's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Make me the third. Mine whines when coming off throttle or rolling in neutral. Fairly annoying, thought of just buying a second hand diff and housing and swapping it over. But then how do I know the next one wont do it too. From what I've been told they can whine if the gears dont mesh together properly. So if the gears are worn there is play in the diff, hence it whines when not accelerating. I've been thinking of trying a different oil. might help a little. Any thoughts???? -
these are the belt codes from dayco, not sure if they are the same as bosch

Its pretty easy to do if you have some basic knowledge of your car. The cable simply bolts into the drivers side of the gearbox. There are some clips that hold it in place that easily come out. The cable enters the cabin about half-way up the fire wall, roughly in-line with your knees. Its a small black triangle with three bolts if i remeber correctly. The end is exactly what you see when you remove the cluster. The attachment that goes into the back is simply held in place behind the dash. Its pretty easy to remove. I wouldn't pay someone to do it but it depends on how confident you are working on your car. I've put some pics in. Look for the black plastic thing on the firewall.
-
maybe take a picture if you have a digital camera and the back of the cluster can still be seen.

a new starter motor from nissan will set you back around $700+, think about a re-conditioned one or a bosch.
-
not sure how much prices vary between states, but here in QLD I made a few calls for a full respray in the same colour and they ranged from $3,000 to $6,000. They also said theyd have to look at the cars condition before they can give an accurate quote. If the paint is damaged they would have to remove more of the original paint. $2,000 sounds like it might be a little low.

Engines That Have Been Sitting Dormant For A While..
mark32gts-t replied to D-limo's topic in General Maintenance
was the compression test done with the motor hot? compression tests cant be done on a cold motor as the readings are inaccurate. has to do with the expansion of the metal rings, pistons and block. May be why the results varied.... -
Not sure if odometers can be re-set. although if dodgy car salesman can wind them back surely you could wind one forward if need be. Have you thought about just trying to find one with similar k's to your cluster?
-
means you have a little blow-by. Some oil is passing by your piston rings and is being pushed through your inlet pipes. I've heard this happens if you're running more boost than stock and if the engines worn. If its an RB20 probably not much of a surprise. They are getting old now. Here's a pic of an RB20DET inlet manifold with really bad blow-by:

here is the part number for the gear boot and the plastic surround. This part is for GTS-T. GTR is different. From memory the part is about $130 from nissan, pretty expensive considering the boot isn't leather. It might have to be shipped from japan if they dont have stock in australia. part # 96935-08U00

heres a picture of the fuses translated from the workshop manual. May be of assitance in the future.

my car does the same thing. from what i've read in a previous post somewhere it has something to do with the contact points on the vent flaps. because the cars are fairly old the motor doesn't receive a signal to stop trying to move the vent flap. you'd probably have to pull the whole dash out to try and fix it. i find if you leave it blowing towards your face and dont change between the two settings it doesn't make too much noise.

thanks, i'll have to give nissan a call and see what they say. my holidays are coming soon so i'll have time to put a new one in and see if it fixes the problem
-
arep3 you dont know what the part number for a new speedo cable is by any chance? Thanks
-
I have the same problem, but not exactly sure how to fix it. I might have read somewhere that the speedo cable from the gearbox might be damaged if the needle bounces. Any comments???
-
bit of a noob question, but anyway. If you install a pump that flows more fuel will you get any benfit from it if you keep the standard fuel pressure regulator? Also, I presume the car would require a tune after the fitment of a larger fuel pump??? Or the car would be running rich?
-
another question, does anyone know what the flow difference between a R32 GTS-t fuel pump is and a R33 GTS-t fuel pump? Is it worth getting an R33 pump for a 32? Or is a GTR pump the way to go? Thanks

R33 Gts-t Turbo

would you consider a lower price seeing as though the bolts would have to be drilled out? which to be done accurately would probably have to be done at a workshop? -
Rb25/26 Swap
mark32gts-t replied to Brucelee Lande's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
a quick question, i know RB20DET boxes have a manual type speedo cable. that runs from the side of the box into the back of the dash cluster. do RB25DET boxes have a manual speedo cable too? i was under the impression that they have a digital speedo. if you were to put a Rb25 box into a R32 how could you hook up the manual driven speedo cable cluster with an RB25 box??? any info
