Good points being made. One thing I need to ask though Gary, while its not difficult at all with even the most basic knowledge of economics to understand that spreading costs over a far larger market such as in the USA compared to our local Australian market will reduce prices, as will lower taxes/duties and cheaper shipping too... Do you really think that would sufficiently justify almost or perhaps even actually *doubling* the price of the car here compared to the USA? (Assuming ballpark figures of ~$75,000AUD in US and ~$150,000AUD here)

Mate, the only problem that I can see is with you. You're making the single biggest mistake you can possibly make when buying a car - you are looking to convince yourself that you *should* buy it. When inspecting cars, you should find a car that suits what you want, then pour over it trying to find reasons *not* to buy it. If you find very few good reasons not to, thats the car for you. I can tell you now, you need to forget this car, walk away right now and youll be happier in the long run. This car sounds like trouble, and you're looking to a forum to find someone who will tell you that it will be ok to buy it. You can be sure that you'll find more things wrong with a car *after* you buy it, and it sounds like you've already found a few things wrong with this one... Like I said, forget this car and approach the next one with a fresh outlook. You've already said what you want, i quote 'PLEASE HELP ME I WANT A GOOD CLEAN SKYLINE THAT I CAN START TO MOD AND WONT BE A MONEY PIT...' So theres no point trying to justify buying a largely molested car with a questionable history and some known issues that you need to fix from the get go. Walk away from this car, and actually try and find cars that fit what you want. A clean, low km, relatively stock car (maybe some mild work like exhaust/FMIC/suspension to get you started) sounds far more like what you want. That way it only becomes a money pit (which I GUARANTEE you it will ) when you want it to. IE you only need to spend money on it when you choose to, not because the engine/gearbox have let go on you.

I think in the context of this thread, the pros and cons of a DSG style gearbox being compared to the pros and cons of a conventional manual gearbox is completely irrelevant? The fact is, you can only get the new GTR with a DSG box, so why bother with the comparison? It has nothing to do with times that the GTR is capable of, period. The only valid point for this thread relating to the gearbox is whether it means an average driver will be able to steer it to a good time, and whether there is much room for improvement in the current times. My personal opinion is that it will make it easier (note, not neccessarily 'easy') to run a good time consistently, relative to a manual box. Thats pretty simply based on the fact that there are less physical movements to co-ordinate. Launch control also will obviously remove another usually neccessary skill which is selecting and holding an appropriate RPM level. Planting foot, no slipping of clutch, and no co-ordinating clutch and gearstick on changes basically means there is a significant amount less for the driver to concentrate on getting right. I also believe there will be less room for improvement than what you may find with other manual cars. Again this is relative, with less to co-ordinate there should be a better chance of the driver getting most things closer to perfect, which means less improvement is possible, which means close to optimal times will be set without as much difficulty. Also, thats a very impressive time. Good work!!

Maxed Out Air Flow Meter @ 170rwkw?
swanny180 replied to InterCooL's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
How would mixtures affect an airflow meter's reading? Its purely based on the amount of air flowing through it, which is related to the size of the turbo and amount of boost being run, not the tuning though. Better mixtures would help make a bit more power though as you've said. Also, the management currently is stock ecu, no remaps or anything (Id hate to see 10:1 mixtures on a so called 'tuned' ecu ) And Pegg, Ill lend you my AFM for a bit and you can take it for a whirl, see if that makes a difference. Ever Felt Like Drawing With Texta On Your Car?
swanny180 replied to funkymonkey's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I think its cool Its different. And to those people saying its a waste of money, wake the f**k up. You dont buy a Lamborghini if you want something that looks like a Camry. You obviously are looking for an extroverted car that will stand out like dogs balls. And that Lambo certainly does so. Think its a lot better looking and more original than Fiddy Cent's chrome effort... -
What Do You Guys Think About This Turbo?
swanny180 replied to WilYawn's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
With a T25 flange it wouldnt bolt up to your manifold either... Id steer clear personally... -
Saw footage of the crash on sports tonight... Massive roll I must say, hes very lucky to have walked away from it!!
-
I have 17x8.5 +25 all round. Fronts fill the guards quite nicely, rears could come out a tad more (except would then need guard rolling) Overall clearance etc is pretty good, few scrubbing problems. Dont know how much difference going up to an 18 would make if you were running a 40 profile tyre (im running 45s)

Help Me Defend The Skyline Pride
swanny180 replied to R33_Rob's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Tell your friend to get a targa top Supra, hes gonna have trouble fitting his head in it otherwise... Supras aren't a bad thing IMO. NA ones are ghey, but TT manual ones = I think they are too heavy, the styling looks good from some angles but completely obese from others and the interior is questionable - but at the end of the day, that engine... 2jz ftmfw -
Thats really f**ked guys Sorry to hear... Hope you get it back in one piece, its seriously beyond belief how brazen theives have lately become... They're the absolute scum of the earth and nothing more to it. I can't comrehend how some people could take the pride and joy of others (who have probably worked their asses off to afford in the first place) and then f**k it up because they are too lazy to make an honest buck.
-
Lol. How about you sell the car? Then you'd be able to afford a new headgasket!
-
I also share this sentiment
-
Shame to hear about your 180 pete Really hope it turns up mate, And hope the f**kers who stole it are identified in the vid and get whats coming to them... Good luck mate!! EDIT: Obviously will have my eyes 110% peeled for it when I'm out and about

Impressive!!

Great work, well done guys!!

What Makes A Car Appealing To You?
swanny180 replied to Roy's topic in General Automotive Discussion
This basically is my view. I have no false beliefs as to the fact that in all likeliness, if you take car like an EVO, you will be faster 99% of the time with all its electronic driver aids helping you out, than what you will be without. But!! Although you might be faster with driver aids, I think driving a car quickly and well without them makes for a far more rewarding experience. Think about it in terms of playing a video game. You play your favourite shoot em up with auto aim turned on. Yeah youre running around, aiming in the general direction of your enemies, but the computer automatically snaps the aim onto them to cover for your error. Turning auto aim off though, you need to do all the work yourself. Similarly, you probably wont do as well as if you had auto aim turned on, but its just not rewarding the same way, and dulls the actual experience with the aid turned on... -
Good man Id be keen to see them...
