  1. Ok well anyone want to critique my current thinking... RB20DET in my HR31 coupe has died of old age. I am considering an R32 RB25DE+T setup. Would comprise of the following... R32 RB25DE HR31 RB20 plenum top and throttlebody (cable is on opposite side, will not clear my strut brace otherwise, plenums basically the same) HR31 RB20DET cams (more agressive than R32 RB20 or 32/33 RB25 items) Nistuned HR31 RB20DET ECU, sensors, coilpacks. GT-R 440cc injectors BB VG30DET Turbo, full 3" exhaust Blitz LM intercooler Bosch 984 pump ?Perhaps a thicker aftermarket head gasket? ?Possibly Z32 AFM? I know the ecu is old however I'm fairly confident the Nistune board would allow it to be more than tuneable enough. Could possibly run a Nistuned R32 RB20DET ECU if totally necessary, however I think with the Nistune setup the HR31 ecu won't be a significant restriction compared to the R32 item -I do not want a knife edge tune. The car will probably often see high load/knock threshold driving (i.e. between home and work is a steep, wide open throttle, 5 minute long climb at 80kmh in top), the occasional track day. It won't be an every day car though. -Fuel is a limitation here, it would have to be reliable on Caltex Vortex 95 or BP Ultimate. -Ideally I want to swap back to my original RB20DET eventually (with a stout rebuild), in a year or two, so I don't want to have to butcher the original loom. This is part of why if possible I'd like to retain the original ecu. So, would I be able to do this reliably? What sort of power output can I reliably achieve - can I realistically make enough grunt to justify the expense over slipping another RB20DET long motor in? It needs to be a reliable, turnkey performer that could potentially do a few years or more as a weekender and fun car.
  2. The sooking in this thread is amazing. Frankly, why should Nissan support a grey import at all? Wouldn't happen in any other industry. Its even more ludicrous if the cars are secondhand. That grey importers will be able to provide a better service than Nissan? Ha. Love to see an importer with the resources and facilities of even the most impoverished Nissan dealership.
  3. B.R.E, Racing Beat, Shelby, Crown Turbochargers...Talking the late 60's here! Long before a few Japanese workshops got onto their feet and started buying stuff from the UK in the 80s. You have to remember that in the early days, say into the early 70's, the Japanese tuning scene was very restricted. Their rego laws in those days meant that cars could be scarcely modified at all without becoming illegal to use on the road, carburation and some cosmetics were about all that could be changed and still pass shakken in that era. There were only a handful of shops in all of Japan specialising in tuning cars for performance, beyond routine servicing and repairs, and most of those were factory affiliated 'sports corners' such as those of Tosco, Toms, Tokyo Prince, mazda racing etc selling factory option race parts, and a few a private shops reselling the same parts or copied versions. Thus the yanks have been at the mass produced Japanese car tuning parts game as long or perhaps in some cases longer than the Japanese.
  4. Everybody banging on the stupid yanks routine is just showing their own stupidity. America..home of some of (more likely the majority of) the best engine builder in the world, the point of development for most turbo technology, and a place where people have been building bulk amounts of fast Japanese cars and parts to suit LONGER THAN THE JAPANESE HAVE. The hillbillys, rappers and obese talkshow characters aren't going to be the ones touching these things.
  5. Heh yeah the rally thing really worked out with the Supra too...almost 2000kg in endurance rally trim... (But I know you mean the celicas etc). It is odd that the supra is quick now and wasn't then...also a number of other cars which were outgunned back then (i.e. mustang..) seem to be a lot quicker now...
  6. But come on! "They banninated Godzilla so the Fords and Holdens could win!!!!" "racing is so crap now with only two manufacturers" make for such a better story. Group A's glory days were 1985-1990, maybe '84 in Europe. Also, funny how quick the Aussie supra is, compared to everywhere else where it was just heavy, unreliable, and outgunned even in a straight line (going from what footage I've seen).

    Slip & Grip

Pretty sure we already do, my condolences to whoever goes bust first. A town the size of Hobart can't support 3+ Import specific parts retailers. And we all know none of them will go close to matching the prices you can buy stuff online for (e.g. via perfectrun etc). However, good luck to them, personally in this instance I would LOVE to be wrong and see them all prosper.

    Couple Of Pics

    Turn the cars around?
  9. The gearbox fragility fix can be described in one word : Holinger.
  10. The question to be asked is, is this information from 1988, or from one of Fred Gibson's interviews in later times? Maybe theres a grain of truth...but then every one of Gibson's skylines hit the track a year or years later than the Japanese ones... I think perhaps Fred has been embellishing a little as history marches on and clouds the realities of the day. 1988 ATCC the HR31 was something of a late starter in the season - debut at round five - and for most of that year their efforts were marked by head gasket and gearbox failures, not massive victories, with single car entries at many rounds. By contrast there had been Nismo backed cars running in Japan since late 1987 including promising showings at the Fuji WTCC round. I also think the eerily similar claims about the GT-R are also somewhat unlkely without a time machine situated at Nissan SVD. Not saying anybody is lying, but I think there is some distortion of reality occurring.
  11. Pretty easy find, its sitting in the Zama storage facility in Japan - or possibly out on display somewhere- either way Nissan has it. http://press.nissan-global.com/COMMON/HERI...detail.html?255 The Ricoh GTS-R is apparently undergoing restoration in Japan also.
  12. Haha GT-R did what now? Careful about buying hype, its not good value. Roy, I didn't know whether I should post those or not since it was a GT-R thread, cheers for that. Full noise into the pits, sideways out, go Gricey!
  13. 4 stud or 5 stud? if its 5 stud I could be keen on the rear hubs.
  14. Oh absolutely, most likely different; but possibly there wouldn't have been a massive variance in camera tech then, plus perhaps as now there was an FIA spec for the housing etc...So its probably a reasonable illustrative example.
  15. News-frickin-flash pal, not many crashes aren't accidents! Frankly it should be at the very minimum negligent driving, at the maximum vehicular manslaughter. She KILLED someone, cause another to lose their leg, ENTIRELY due to lack of due skill, care and attention on her own part. If I lock up the brakes at a wet intersection and plough into a car, killing someone, I will BE charged, I may go to jail, I would certainly be in a lot more trouble than this woman. Bleeding heart bullshit is all it is. Who cares about her traumatic past; already got her into one of the world's best countries, now its a get out of jail free card?
  16. Someone was asking about TV cameras... These are the Grice/Percy ETCC/BTCC R31, but theres some nice clear frontal pics of the camera setup which was in use over there - possibly similar to here.
  17. If you can handle a decrease in rotor size from 310mm to 297mm, JDS have a set of R33 GTS-T calipers and legal thickness rotors for $300.
  18. Can't remember, whoever Ichiban Imports used. Think it was Toll. They did lose it when it got into Tassie though, for a couple of days...lol
  19. My last one came from sydney and it was $135.
  20. Ok, that is interesting, cheers Duncan. Unfortunately the importers aren't really willing for me to come and drop the sump off theirs to see if the pan rail is indeed drilled for both... Can anyone confirm who has done this? Thusfar the only people using a GTS4 motor I've had any info off seem to suggest the sump MUST be modded and the rwd one cannot fit.

    Registration

Has it ever been registered or is it just a fresh import? If regoed interstate its no harder than any other car, if regoed in tassie before again, no harder than any other tassie car. What is it? Theres a few in Tassie. Last count I think there was ~10 coupes, including wogboy's GTS-R (jealous!), and a 5 or so Passages. I've got a white GTS coupe.
  22. Spotted two blokes in town a heap of times the other day in a gunmetal GTS-T with low ride height, no wing, AVS model 6 rims, big exhaust (nice sound!). Tuff looking car - but seriously, we are in driving heaven, why pose around town alllllll day.
  23. Is it possible/difficult to swap a rear wheel drive sump onto a RB20DET GTS4 motor? My RB20 just expired and I've been offered a GTS4 motor quite cheap. I don't want massive amounts of farking around chopping and welding things, as its only going to be in the car until my current RB20 is rebuilt. But enlighten me as to the possibilities.
  24. Cheers but Melbourne is not a lot of use to me! Thanks guys, if I can find a motor and its sans injectors, I'll grab one set or the other. I only need them to raid some bits off to swap my HR31 injectors onto the R32 manifold.
  25. I'm chasing an RB20DET long motor ONLY, in Tassie. Don't need electronics/box/turbo/pumps etc Might need injectors too. Needs to be a good healthy specimen. PM me or post if you've got something.
