  1. Nah, IRS would be a step backwards from what I have seen of 80's nissans. Live axles can definitely be made to handle well enough, if not even better than Nissan's dodgy trailing arm setup. I am trying to figure a way of offset mounting the rear arms now to get the roll centres right when it goes a bit lower too, see how that goes. I am just interested in a five stud conversion. I also found out R32 GT-R rims are +30, which is pretty much ideal with the 16x8" width. I got offered a reasonable price on Buddy Club P1s so I will probably end up just saving my pennies and getting those, rather than spending big on the 5 studs, unless I can find out EXACTLY what needs to be done. For now, because nobody knows how to do the 5 stud thing with any certainty, I reckon I will haunt my local jap importer for some 16" multifits in a reasonable offset. cheers, floody
  2. 17s hey.Not the wheels in your avatar? I'm not a khrome fan.... Maybe, give us a PM when you know, No promises though. I might keep saving my pennies for a set of 16x8.5" Buffy club P1's and some semi slicks, and a red top rb20det (yeh silver's better, but it just seems more "right" fitting the red top in the 31). That sucks though, bloody commodores... What happened to the simmons' wheels? cheers, floody
  3. "dude", if you aren't interested in buying something, don't post. Don't be a pain in the arse for everyone else. No offence intended. cheers, floody
  4. Fall for at least a couple of years, then stabilise, then likely to rise as they attain classic status in Japan. Thats my guess.
  5. Anyone still GT2 drifting? I don't have a ps2 yet.... But GT2 is good fun, in timetrial mode on Arcade. I like Autumn ring mini/Autumn Ring (turn around and do the course backwards, its better). I like the R32 GTS-T, with about 370hp, the RX7 GT-turbo '83 and GT-X '90, and the DR30 RS-X with about 421hp. I have a "JMS replica" R33 GTS-T which is not bad , but is very touchy. The AE86 is good but requires a lot of commitment to corner entry which goes wrong easily. The S13/RPS13 cars are too twitchy, and the s14/s15 are not responsive enough. I basically use supersoft/normal tyre combos, lowered to the bumpstops up front, springrates I normally leave basically as the 'full customisation' default, I might up the bound rates and swaybars, 3.5 degrees camber up front and 1.5-2.0 rear. 2 way LSD works well, all the cars have twin plate clutches and full customisation boxes set fairly close. I set my cars a little softer than some people so they are more predictable, and also weight transfer is enhanced, I use feint drift more than handbrake to set the car up, so I need a big weight shift to get it sideways. Also running the suspension that little bit softer helps transfer more weight forward under braking drift. Also GT2 cars seem to have a "camber threshold" that is, too much front camber tends to induce understeer. anyways, hope that helps some people
  6. PHaT MR30, is your car the black MR30 with the grey simmons wheels and nice (lack of) ride height? I saw it in Hobart a while ago, looks very nice. What have you done to it? cheers, floody
  7. Look under 1/24th scale once you get to the scales menu. Theres like 300 kits.
  8. Thats a fair bit for a 4 year old head unit man, even a $300 new one would probably have mp3 capability and higher output (yeah I know, no 3 cd or cassette though..), are you negotiable? cheers, floody
  9. Cool! Yeah, Slip, if you want your wheels 10mm further out, you will need something with an offset more like +23mm as opposed to +33. lower offset means further out. Spacers would achieve what you want at the moment....but they are definitely dodgy. I was thinking 16x7" or 16x8" wheels for my car. Everyone is obsessed with 17"/18" wheels on their R31's which is silly, they would be a step backwards. My local speedshop guy wants to sell me buddy club p1's , 16x8.5" , at $400 each though....Wheres my money tree :| cheers, floody
  10. coco69, http://www.hlj.com is your friend!!! They are in japan (but ship worldwide and the website is all in english) and carry basically all the fujimi and tamiya models (as opposed to australai where there is maybe 10 fujimi models brought in by the distributor). They also carry all the dress up bits like wheels and wings, mufflers etc that fujimi/aoshima make. My GTS-R kit was 1000yen, or $13!!! postage was about the same, so all up, including the wheels I bought it came to $33.80, and once my kit came into stock (it was out of production when I ordered) it took 9 DAYS to get here. I recommend them to everyone, and also recommend staying out of bloodsucking aussie hobby shops for everything bar paint/glue/supplies/revell kits. The GTS-R was going to be $50+ from sherriffs , and unavailable elsewhere...... its just stoopid to buy fujimi kits here. cheers, floody
  11. Sorta OT, sorta not, anyone know what a good grade of sandpaper is to sand back a plastic model? or a way of chemically stripping one (that won't melt it) maybe oven cleaner?? I left a kit shell on my balcony, turned my back for a minute, and a freak wind blew up, flipped it over and now the paint is full of shit. GRRRR. I need to strip and start again or sand back the affected areas. Its a fujimi kit. cheers, floody
  12. What power rating is the double din head unit? cheers, floody
  13. Slip, that would mean the S13 rims had a higher positive offset(which I was saying)- that is that the distance from the wheel centre to the hub face is closer to the front of the rim, hence they sit further inwards and rub the strut. Offset is measured from the centre line of the rim to the back of the hub face, not from the front edge of the rim to the hub face. A numerically lower offset number will sit the wheel further out, whereas a higher number will sit the rim in closer. So you have +33 offset rims, what width? 16" ? what size tyres? What car are they off originally? how well do they fill the guards- I want to fill my wheelarches up, and get as much track width as is practical. My 15x6" rims with about a 30 offset just sit too close in at the back, like no worse than stock wheels, but yeah. cheers, floody
  14. I've got one skyline and a 2 door datusn 510 in the works right now. The skyline is a fujimi HR31 GTS-R. It has no rear wing, is lowered about 6 scale inches, has aftermarket 19" AVS model 5 rims in bronze, and is painted in a reallly dark (like almost black when out of the sun) blue with a heavy metalflake which looks mad when the light hits it. I also have spare mesh 15" rear wheels which I swap on occasionally, and I made up a big drifted out cannon muffler on the back. Interior is red race seats from a S4 RX7 kit, with silver/grey trim, black interior (e.g like the J's racing s15 from canberra). should finish up well. The revell datsun 510 will be in the same blue (but probably a bit lighter due to body color), with black RS-watanabe 8 spokes from fujimi kit on the front, and black/silver mesh dish rims on the back. The interior will have one red race seat, and be stripped. I am also converting it from left to right hand drive and making an exhaust system for it. Hopefully I'l finish them and post pics of my "seventh garage" mini drift team one day I buy my kits from http://www.hlj.com cheers, floody
  15. INASNT, Hey, if somebody wants to be a fool then not take resposibility for their actions, I wouldn't want their help. I bet I'm not alone thinking what I do, just the others don't have the bollocks to say something. Also, this is not a case of "Estimated speed" is it, so "fighting the system" is a little redundant here.. If I needed legal help, I'd ask a lawyer, not a car forum anyway. I refuse to support someone who wishes go to court on a completely frivolous basis to try and get off when they f#cked up and they know it. I don't give a shit what other people think, its just my opinion. You want advice SiksII? If you are going to do this, prepare to pay a lot for a lawyer , and don't be too disappointed if you come out of the courtroom owing 1559+lawyers fee+ court fee, and with your suspension intact. I really doubt you'd have much chance given the political climate surrounding hoons, speed, and the road toll. But I'm thinking now, give it a go, a fool and his money are easily parted- be it by a fine, or by a lawyers fee. cheers, floody
  16. Where do I get them? are they legal? and what do you mean "run a silvia/180sx stud pattern", the stud pattern is identical on a stock skyline, 4x114.3. Or do they change your stud pattern to 5x114.3? Slip, what about offset problems? Saliva/180sx are about +35 from memory, R31 is about +25. Do you know of anyone runing silvia/180 fitment rims on their 'line? do they sit inwards or fill out the guards properly?Would the wider rims (e.g 7/8") make up for the offset problem? I don't want to be losing track width. I want 16s for handling not looks. My current rims are 15x6" and thats not great for tyre choice, considering max width is about a 205 on those rims, and the sidewall height is annoying at a 65 profile. cheers, floody
  17. I will still condemn you for taking this to court. You know you were speeding, you know the reading was accurate, and you want to go to court so you can get out of it. If the magistrate is remotely lenient on this one they should be struck off. 56kmh over, due to your own carelessness, and you think you should get off. If they feel "sorry" for you, they are a moron. I just don't know what goes on in peoples brains. If you had a legit reason to get off, I'd say fight it, or even if it was a lesser offence. But 56kmh over, in a 50 zone? get real. Whatever you do, don't use legal aid if you take this to court, you'd waste enough taxpayers money just with employing the court staff for your blatantly FRIVOLOUS case. I hope you lose. cheers, Floody.
  18. Dunno about the cops, but I reckon the RSPCA would be onto you..... seriously though, Why do it? its cheaper than a high flow cat, granted, but I doubt there would even be a noticeable increase over a healthy cat convertor. A clogged one would be a restriction though, but a healthy, fresh one , in a decent size, would be a negligible benefit
  19. Nah, still there! Just thought I'd widen my search a bit! outlawskyline, thanks for the heads up, but I don't want or need 17s, 16x7/8" Is what I'm going for. Better ride and possibly better handling than the lower profiles, I mean thats already a +2 sizing on stock. Though I'm partial to 18" R34 GT-R rims, but then, who isn't! I'd only use them on the street though, would be a step backwards for the track, I'd be tipping. cheers, floody
  20. A frined of mine has a KE55 corolla coupe he has built to 95% the same spec as a JDM TE37 levin, including JDM tailights, bumpers, Black racing (rs-watanabe style) rims, interior, and a 2T-G with dual mikunis and a T-50 box. Its currently off the road with some drift damage being repaired and a 1.8 litre high comp bottom end and 256 cams going in, as well as front coilovers and some rear end mods. All it needs is the levin grill/lights. When I say same spec as a TE37, I really mean the same spec a young hashirya would have built his te37 to in the late 70's.. http://www.tassie.net.au/jar those pics are old though. Theres also a guy here with a KE10 corolla coupe running a 4AGE 20V (might have a 7afe bottom end IIRC), which is also done up in a retro japanese street racer style (e.g japanese rego plates, old school wheels) . I guess they aren't *totally* imports, but in both those cases there is really no "australian content" componentry left. retro feature... cheers, floody
  21. Is this the red one with the R33 GT-R style wing? how much are you looking for? what are these heaps of mods?
  22. I see a fair few HR31's on japanese sites, and Nismoid's GTS-R, which have been converted to a 5x114.3 stud pattern, opening up the previously non existent wheel choice considerably. I have an aussie 31, and I know how to convert the rear axle, but I was just wondering if anybody knows what hubs are used up front? I have heard perhaps Z31 turbo 300zx hubs may be the go? But I don't want to buy a set and find out they don't fit! so does anyone have some info that could shed some light on this? Also, on a related topic, I am looking at a BTR hydratrak diff conversion from a Falcon longreach ute, Is it possible to have axles shortened and retain the splines on the centre end? I mean not have to recut the splines? Apparently the BTR axles have a strange setup with an odd spline or 2 different one left to right or something. I'd like to fit the Hydratrak centre and axles into the R31 casing, and retain the 5x114.3 stud pattern and bigger brakes from the falcon. Its just an idea at this stage, but it seems like a better option than a worn out and recoed old silhouette LSD. cheers, floody
  23. "as i never speed on that street" Oh, you just speed where there aren't cameras then? Complacency is no excuse- You slipped up, so yes it is a lesson you need to learn, Don't slip up! That is a GROSS violation of the speed limit, its double the limit + some. 56 kmh isn't just a little slip up, or lack of concentration. Once is enough - e.g the fact you don't do it every night doesn't make the act any better or you any less at fault. "i would like to show the courts that i have learned my lesson to GET OFF".... I hope you lose the court case, and are ordered to pay court fees, if that is your attitude. You did the wrong thing, now you want to get off scot free? Take some responsibility. I can't believe you want to take this to court and waste sooo much taxpayers money, and the time of an already stretched court system....
  24. INASNT, I think maybe you are confused with the case of one John Singleton, a businessman (very rich businessman), who got done for speeding by a large margin on the Hume highway, in HIS Bentley. However, this was like 10 years ago, and it is extremely unlikely such a case would hold up today. I'd say impossible. It was also for a speeding infringement on a 4 lane, 110 zoned, straight and near empty highway. It cost a HUUUUUGE amount in lawyers fees as well, this fella just did it to prove a point. I doubt siks11 has the cash to carry that sort of thing out. siksII, mate I think you have a snowball's chance in hell of getting off, and frankly, thats fair enough, 106 in a 50 zone is 56kmh over the limit, in what, a residential area? You should cop it sweet and learn your lesson. How could you be so inattentive or just plain arrogant to drive around suburbia at 56 over the limit? You are stuffed I'm afraid. The thing about taking a speeding fine to court is, well, basically you need to prove that A) you weren't speeding; or B) the reading was wrong, and it doesn't seem like either would be true in this case, so you'd be wasting the time of the court as well as the money in your wallet. cheers, floody
  25. I'd like to get one for my girlfriend/second car in a few months time. How do they go standard? I was thinking I'd fit triple 45mm webers and a good sports exhaust with a drift style cannon out the back. Or maybe stick an r31 x-member and my old RB30 from the R31 when I'm done with it. They are IRS yeah? typical oldschool datsun setup right? like lower it and get huge rear camber+mucho sideways? could be fun :burnout: cheers, floody
