Getting A New Work Car Sugestions Appreciated
Harey replied to kralster's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Agree with others, hard to go past a suby in the mid size station wagon field. Get some leather seats to 'class' it up. -
Interesting discussion, I have always thought about whether full comp or 3rd party/fire/theft is the best solution for different cars. Number 1 financial threat is if you have an accident with an expensive car or property. That can leave you bankrupt or paying off a loan for the rest of your life. Once that is covered, then the rest depends on how much your car is worth vs how much they want to charge you. The example of a not at fault accident and having to fight an insurance company by yourself does seem very scary though. If you car is worth $16k and $10k is covered by theft and if you pay $2k a year for full comp insurance for 3 years then you have paid the difference anyway. Its a complicated decision and I dont think a blanket statement can be made.

In this thread Stevoss made up a custom metal intake pipe to connect the airbo to the turbo intake: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/370985-cold-air-box-r34-gtt-anyone-know-where-to-get-one-to-fit-return-flow-coolerstock-cooler/ As a few people said in the linked thread, that is not easy to do as it must join the airbox at exactly the right location on the right angle. I thought Hypergears example was to connect a pod filter not the stock airbox??

Yeah the 2 WYTSKY dynos are very different. Noticed in the first one once it hits 6,200rpm power dives over quite heavily, down to almost 200rwkw by 7000rpm redline. The high comp engine will obviously help with response. The fact that the tuner said that the result was similar to other results makes me think the 2nd dyno is closer to accurate then the 1st one.

Better Flowing Intercooler For Rb25 In R32
Harey replied to Russman's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
As Ash said, I would test it. The intercooler does not look too small for that power plus its a good brand. -
The issue is making up a custom metal intake pipe that has the 2 ports for pcv and bov breather that also meets the airbox at exactly the right location and angle. When its a pod you have the advantage of not having to be exact with where it sits. Sounds like Stevoss managed this above, dude you should make a few up and sell em!

Where To Buy Fittings To Connect Boost Hose To Pipes
Harey replied to Harey's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
thanks for the tip -
Hi, I am trying to diagnose a boost drop problem. I have performed the following test (see pic) where the hose was connected to the hot pipe and then the pressure in the manifold. As you can see there is a large drop. I had a larger turbo before and it would also drop down to ~15.5psi no matter how hard I run the turbo. I tried 5 different actuators etc. We also troubleshooted the exhaust etc. I would like to install a fitting just after the intercooler on the cold pipe and see what the pressure reading is there. Interesting to note that Randon_I_Am has exactly the same issure on his R34 with different Hypergear turbo and return flow intercooler. Where do I buy these fittings from? Surely there is some kit that I can buy that I can easily block off when I have nothing connected. Last time I found a copper one which isnt ideal for welding to the pipe. Any help much appreciated!

Its probably a crude example but say a clutch drop as opposed to a good launch at the same rpm. The peak torque is the same, the only difference is how sudden the torque changes.

ARC are discontinued I believe. Just Jap have ordered a new range of Blitz return flow intercoolers, not sure when they will arrive. Either a JJR one or wait for a blitz.
-
Been doing more research on this and it seems there are plenty of guys running return flow intercoolers making a lot more power: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/359972-most-power-with-a-return-flow-intercooler-and-std-piping/page__p__5747667__fromsearch__1#entry5747667

100% agree on the change in torque causing wheelspin. You can have a huge peak torque figure but if the torque builds gradually you have a good chance of no wheelspin. If there is no torque then a sudden 500Nm jump over 500rpm it will be very hard to not get a lot of wheelspin. Normally in a turbocharged car the biggest change in torque will also be as the turbo hits boost and reaches its peak torque, but that is just a coincidence. See below example, yes it would be the strangest dyno curve ever but you get the idea.

20psi at 3700rpm is excellent in 4th gear. Did you ever manage to post up a dyno sheet? Second gear cant be 3500rpm because it has to be higher than the rpm in 4th gear
-
No the most Tao could make out of this turbo is 264rwkw on 24psi. Its a smaller turbo designed for maximum response. I am hoping to get closer to that on the next tune but dont expect anything higher then that. If you want a turbo that can make 280rwkw on 98 fuel then you cant have crazy low end torque, well nothing I have seen has that. eg 20psi at 3,200rpm.
-
Yeah when you say 'come on like a light switch', that normally means a large turbo that has a fair bit of lag and then goes from no boost to full boost in a short time frame. You mean a turbo with lots of low down torque and power to give you a rush in the low/mid rpm. I think the light switch comment is misleading.

Get the SS1 turbo like I have. 1st and 2nd gears are brutal and press you hard in the seat from super low rpm. Above 100km/h it moves nicely but definitely looses that rush. Mine has made 240rwkw on 16psi with a restrictive intercooler and exhaust. I have fixed these up and am about to get a tune, hoping for 250 something. Then add some E85 to hopefully get close to 280rwkw. That would match your requirements.

How Much Boost Can The Unopened Rb25 Take?
Harey replied to Torques's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
21.72psi is the max, 21.73psi and the world implodes.... -
There are stacks of turbos that will make that power on that amount of boost. The reason why a turbo is impressive is if it can deliver X amount of power with great response relative to that power. So 250rwkw is impressive with full boost at 3200rpm, 280rwkw is impressive with full boost at say 3700rpm etc. Yes I believe your turbo is very impressive but not just because it can make that peak power, it is because it makes that peak power with great response so a fat powerband.

Yup my fujitsubo catback exhaust had a restriction as well down from 3.5" exhaust to a 2.5" restriction in the rear muffler! Can anyone confirm if any of these exhausts dont have a restriction? See the link posted above for pics. If you look inside the rear muffler and measure it, then measure the piping before the muffler.
