  1. Where are you from? 86 octane sounds low. To start off with drop the boost as much as possible but in the end you will need to get the ecu retuned for the 86 octane fuel.
  2. That really is great info Ash, I think I brushed over it. The 3" intake stays with the Z32 afm. My current thinking is that its a combination of intercooler restriction and turbo on its limit. If you look at Tao's result (yellow and green) you can see the turbo hitting its limit around 19psi. The boost drops off with the same curve as mine except ~3-4psi higher. Well what if my intercooler (second hand Trust item) is not working well and causing 3-4psi of pressure loss meaning that the turbo is on its limit. I purchased some fittings to install into the hot pipe from the turbo to the intercooler so I can compare results between that and after the intercooler. I just have one boost gauge to measure so I was going to move it and get a rough figure that way. Is there such thing as a pressure difference tester?
  3. Woops yeah no boost, not infinite boost. If you have an air compressor you can pump air into the actuator and the rod will be much easier to pull out.
  4. You may as well finish off the steps that have been suggested. Then you will need to find another e-clip before you should boost it. You can still drive it as the rod will stay there, just dont boost it as it may fall off and if you nail it will go infinity boost. The e-clip should just slide out sidewards.
  5. Yeah who cares if the compressor cover is not factory with that airbox and scoop, you wouldnt be able to see it, nor would a cop bother after seeing it. Nice work! I gave up on trying to get the custom metal intake to fit the airbox nicely.
  6. Interesting, sounds like a set of tomei poncam B's might be really beneficial on the R34. Although bit pricey ouch $1199!! http://justjap.com/store/product.php?productid=16269&cat=305&page=1
  7. Details please! Never heard of it!
  8. Stock standard RB25DET Neo PWR 650CC injectors Walbro GSS-342 (rewired to run direct from battery) Greddy FMIC Full 3" turbo back straight cut custom exhaust with high flow cat and bellmouth dump pipe (Was actually quieter without the exhaust on, and as results show there is no restriction here) Apexi pod filter Z32 AFM 3" custom metal intake pipe Stock GTR bov NGK Iridiums gapped to 0.8mm Greddy Profec II EBC ATR43G2 .63 NIStune ECU Those mods sound good. What about coil packs?
  9. Bit unfair blaming the turbo on the fact you needed to get all custom intercooler piping. Why cant you stay with the standard intercooler piping? The hard intake pipe is required for any turbo you choose and you can simply reuse it. The labour to install the injectors is required no matter which turbo you use. In my opinion the only money you have wasted because of the turbo is the labour to fit the turbo and tuning.
  10. Sounds good, so it ran out of puff after that?
  11. Understand your frustration, I have never done major modifications to a car and had everything work well. I had spark plug issues and intake pipe issues on the latest set of mods. Are you able to put up the details of your setup so we can possibly help? How did you spend $4k to install a Hypergear turbo? The dump pipe is skyline flange so dump pipes are easy to get and cheap, no new oil or coolant lines are required (just the 1 supplied), plus my standard intercooler piping fitted with very minor mods. The only thing I can think of is the intake pipe? But surely that wasnt super expensive plus its required with any turbo??
  12. Very keen to see results to this!
  13. But that makes it more of a wtf because I have a neo engine and he had a standard R33 engine (prior to rebuild).
  14. Yeah standard cams in both. Interesting didnt know they had different cams from the factory.
  15. Pretty sure Tao had my turbo on before his engine was rebuilt, so it was 100% factory. What compression differences between 33 and 34? They are both 9.0 as far as I am aware. Interesting points though.
  16. But you can see on Tao's car he cranks the boost up to 20ish psi and the turbo responds well and holds boost. On mine the boost drops back to 15ish psi and wont make anymore up top. He had exactly the same turbo, I saw him unbolt it from his car and bolt it to mine. Yes the 0.82 FNT changes are very interesting, but I just wanted to get close to Tao's result first. Good idea with a test, its just the labour effort involved in swapping turbos.
  17. Dynosheet in post #20 has the test with no cat or catback exhaust (dark blue). Need to do an intercooler test too.
  18. Also did some exhaust troubleshooting: yellow is full exhaust light blue is with dump/front pipe and cat (catback exhaust removed) dark blue is with only dump/front pipe (cat and catback exhaust removed) I wish we continued the dark blue run, but it was mainly to see if we could improve response. Either way doesnt seem to be a big difference.
  19. Ignore the red hand drawn plot that is a different turbo that I was comparing. The ATR43G3 is roughly equivalent to a 3076 in size. It would be the front side that could be running out of efficiency, I am running a bored out standard compressor cover. Trent did say it was the most power he has had on his dyno with a standard compressor cover on the front of the turbo. Interesting point about the cat.
  20. I have a Hypergear turbo ATR43G3 with 0.82 rear but with standard nissan comp cover, metal 3" intake, Z32 AFM, 800cc injectors, trust return flow intercooler, just jap 1 piece dump pipe, Catco 3" cat and fujitsubo catback exhaust. The top 2 sheets are with the exact turbo on Tao's car, bottom two are mine. Note mine is pretty close to Tao's on that boost level. If I crank the boost up to 20psi it just drops off to the same 15ish psi, same with 22psi. Makes a bit more midrange with the increased boost but no more top end. Only difference in setups is that Tao had his AFM relocated to the cooler piping, hence my query.
  21. Standard piping is 2.5". I think the hot pipe is fine at 2.5" but yeah there is probably merit in a 3" cold pipe (after intercooler).
  22. That comparison is not fair as the Dynapack hub dyno is using STP correction which also inflates figures. Theres a few dynos on here with the fact they have STP correction turned on blanked out from the dynosheet posted. I dont care but when its convincing people buying turbos to change their decision its a bit wrong IMO. Examples I have seen are 268rwkw -> 280rwkw, 308rwkw -> 325rwkw etc
  23. What sort of place do you get to do this sort of work? I would like to get Nissan labelled on a plain turbo compressor cover
  24. From someone who has relocated the AFM to the cooler piping and running a 4" intake Thats what I want too. Also doesnt mean it wont gain power either.
