Here you go...

Here's another couple of photos:
-
I had the stock system before so it's obviously louder then that, but overall it's not too loud. Definately not quiet but not as loud as many other systems. The best thing is there's next to no drone, and at higher revs it sounds great.

I finally got my twin exhaust! It took a lot longer then expected, a bit of mucking around and cost a fair bit more then a conventional exhaust, but I'm very happy with the result! Credit for the exhaust work goes to Mercury Motorsport. The end result was even better then I'd hoped for! I'll get better\more photos once I clean the car.

The True R33 Gearbox Oil Capacity?
_Scotty_ replied to _Scotty_'s topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The drain is at the bottom of the gearbox towards the rear, the fill hole is slightly above center on the drivers side. Both can be undone with a 1/2" drive ratchet or breaker bar. -
The True R33 Gearbox Oil Capacity?
_Scotty_ replied to _Scotty_'s topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Yeah decided to find out exactly what the right amount is. But in the end the results don't really help! I drained out 2.7-2.8L so there was definately no more then 2.8L in there to start with. The car's done 75000kms, so it may have had a change in Japan, but then again it could be just as it left the Nissan factory. When I refilled it however it took about 3.7L to fill until it ran out the drain hole. At the end of the day I don't know which figure is correct, but I'm going to stick with the tried and tested method of filling to the fill hole. -
The True R33 Gearbox Oil Capacity?

Well I've decided to try make sure it's right, i'm going to go raise it level now and drain it again to make sure the amount is correct. -

Probably no more then 100mL. -
The True R33 Gearbox Oil Capacity?

I jacked the drivers side up to drain it, but I don't think it would have been enough to keep an extra 1L of oil in the gearbox. In fact I felt around the edge of the drain hole and couldn't feel any oil remaining. Did you measure how much oil you drained the first time you did it? -
I've just spent several hours searching to try and find the true fill capacity of an R33 gts25t manual gearbox, but at the end of it I'm still not sure. Some people say that service manuals\owners handbooks list 2.5-2.8L while others say that they use up to 3.8L before the oil comes out the filler hole. When I did my change today i measured the old oil and it was roughly 2.5L, so I filled it back up with slightly more then this. This left the level slightly below the filler hole. I doubt that the oil has been changed previously, so I'm almost definate that this is the correct amount, but given that so many people seem to be using more does anyone actually know the amount specified by Nissan? While I'm asking, does anyone know the capacity and weight\grade Nissan specifies for the Viscous LSD?

Getting into a car with a drunk driver when you know they are drunk will likely reduce the liability of a drunk driver if you took civil action against them, but it is not a complete defence. They are still likely to have some liability.

I wouldn't think it would be an issue. The reo etc are untouched, just the thin metal of the spare wheel well cut and a box section welded in it's place.
-
I have a Veilside rear bar on mine ready for twin exhausts to be fitted, it required a hole to be cut in the rear bar on the right hand side, as well as removing the spare wheel and cutting out a large section of the metal under it in order to make room for the muffler to line up with the bar properly.

Painting and Powder coating rocker covers

I painted my old R31's valve cover and the bases of the strut tower brace in Metalcast blue, I was pretty happy with how it turned out... -
Rb30e Exhaust Size 2.25 Inch Too Small?
_Scotty_ replied to rorz's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Well, this is the section of an Aus R31 exhaust from the cat to just after the diff. Hopefully the picture will give a decent idea of the diameter (compare it against the exhaust hanger). It's definately smaller then 2.25". -
Rb30e Exhaust Size 2.25 Inch Too Small?
_Scotty_ replied to rorz's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
The factory R31 exhaust is tiny, most people that upgrade their exhausts go for 2.25" or 2.5" -
Although you were hoping for more, it's still not a bad improvement from where you were. I still think your boost is a little low though. I was picking something up from Mercury today, and if I'm not mistaken your car's an auto right? Auto's make less power then manuals from the factory don't they? That could be a factor too.
-
Mate, my R33 was on the dyno at Mercury a bit over a week ago and it made 149.4rwkw, again on a completely stock car. If you compare the graphs you'll see that i'm making around 20kws more through most of the rev range, but more importantly you'll see the difference in boost. I've grounded the wire going to the boost controller so it's in high boost all the time, but yours should still get there in the end. I'd be looking at your boost controller first, maybe read the thread on staying constantly in high boost mode and give that a shot.

I'm going to buy it off Jetspeed tommorow. Not sure who I'm going to get to paint it yet though. I had a heap of trouble trying to track one down.
-
I've just organised a Veilside rear bar which I'll hopefully pick up tommorow. I won't know exactly where I stand until I see it on the car, but I'll have to make it look the same on both sides, while keeping the mufflers as high as I can without seeing the fuel tank etc through the cut in the right side. Shouldn't be too much of an issue, best scenario I just cut out part of the right side, worst case I'll have to cut part of the right, and fill up part of the hole on the left. Once that's sorted and painted it's off to the exhaust shop. Silent I don't suppose you've fitted a veilside rear bar before? Do you know if they sit much lower then the standard bar? If the do it'll make the whole thing a lot easier.
-
The main problem I'm expecting is with the position of the fuel tank on the right hand side. I'm also going to need to modify the rear bar to make it symetrical, which is going to be interesting since I've never tried to fibreglass before. I'm keen to make it work though so hopefully it'll be done soon.

I'm planning to have a twin exhaust similar to what you're thinking fitted over the next couple of weeks, if you're interested I'll let you know how I go with clearances etc.

Help With Gearbox/clutch Noise
_Scotty_ replied to wraith_skyline's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Anyone know what causes this? I've just bought an R33, and a couple of times after starting it in the morning it's made a whirring sound when I depress the clutch. It only does it a couple of times, then it's fine and doesn't make the sound again. -
Have you searched on www.r31skylineclub.com? There's been a bit of bodykit discussion on there lately. There's not a whole heap available in Australia, but it all depends how hard you want to look and what you're willing to pay.
