hi again another issue with my car: On cold idle the car seems ok but as the rpm's come down for warm idle, I start hearing popping and missing coming out the exhaust. If I take it for a spirited drive and pull it up the misses are quite evident and it sounds like its all over the place but the rpm's aren't altering in any way. I had a map2ecu fitted to the car over a year ago which did the car no favours. I had it removed and the oem ecu remapped and its been fine for a good while but now this issue has arrived. I had heard that the map2ecu can cause damage to splitfire coilpacks and I'm thinking that they've finally given up the ghost as the car now does the classic 'brrrrrrrrr' hesitation at 5500rpm on full throttle. my question is would the coilpacks being jaffed cause any kind of rough idling/missing? I've checked the airflowmeter and that seems fine. Even took the square section off to check the soldered connections and they're like new so thats good. any ideas guys I'd really appreciate it! thanks! ant

hey guys well I've had this issue for a short while now.. It sounds much like a loose pas/alt belt but louder. Its also not throttle related - sometimes I can fire it up from cold and it'll sit there and do it for 30seconds and other times I can drive for 20km and have not so much as a whisper then it'll just do it again. I've tried wd40 on both belts it did nothing so I'm guessing its not a belt related issue. I tried today to remove the pas belt and it the sound didn't appear once (steering was bloody tough tho lol!). once I put the pas belt back on and nipped it up I heard the screech again. Has anyone had this issue? Would overtightening the pas pump belt cause it to screech at all? sorry for the questions, the car still seems ok but the noise is just driving me nuts now lol!

hi Daniel glad to hear the turbo is going to be good - I didnt want insane power - just a punchier turbo. As for the manifold I looked all over for a T3 top mount manifold but couldn't get one except for a cheap one off ebay which I didn't want to do. I dont think the flow of air will be disrupted that much will it? The guys welding the T3 smoothed it off inside and tidied it up. Am I really going to disrupt its flow that much? I mean are we talking loss of 100bhp or something? The rest of the car is basically a 25 rebuild bored out... wiseco 87mm pistons rb26 nur spec conrods calico bearings arp head bolts cometic head gasket arc fmic mocal 19 row oil cooler new oil pump new water pump hks cambelt kit with tensioners hks silent power exhaust r32 gtr clutch gtr fuel pump so its got a few toys under the hood. I'm also thinking about a rebuilt gtr top end for 8000rpm but wanna do this turbo first and see how it goes. At the moment I've got a heap of issues, a scattered timing signal (getting a new grounding kit for the engine). My splitfire coilpacks have packed in. I have to sort out my front suspension. Just a few things to deal with on top of the turbo lol! SSeater - sorry mate I seem to have hijacked this thread with updates on my own progress... which so far isn't going anywhere I'll post up my updates on another thread and add a link to this site when I finally get a chance to tackle my own! Great pics on your car tho - thanks for sharing!

Convert Ecutalk Logs To Universal Format
anthonymcgrath replied to BundyBear's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
hi Bundybear - I've been playing with this software myself. This software you've created looks rather cool. I work with maya an awful lot and I've got a basic way at present to read the ecutalk log .txt files into maya and then drive needles of rpm, water temp, timing etc.. as a kind of animation log. my end goal is to use the same data to drive a 3d engine model. I'm still working on the model but it features pistons in motion and I'm hoping I can get it to display other things too like the sparks firing in the cylinder. dl'ing your program currently and gonna give it a shot a bit later this evening (8pm in uk) cheers for sharing! -
hi mate this is gonna be starting at the end of this month - funds, and waiting for my garage to be given to me have meant its had to wait a little while. your gonna need the top mount manifold and then you can get a downpipe (dump pipe) made up with the turbo attached to the manifold. i've got a gtr style greddy plenum to go on too at the same time. looking forward to seeing the results. I think I'm gonna need some oil and water line making up and I imagine some alterations to my fmic pipework too. its gonna be off the road for a short while I think. I'll be sure to post update pics once I get going on it

doh! bloody pc - should have the correct pics below now.... return V-band feed from ext. wgate back into downpipe... close up of t3 flange on t4. Its not the best pic and please excuse the packaging inside it! The flange was welded on and inside the 'walls' where the T4 goes to the T3 have been smoothed out to help the airflow into the turbo... close up of V-band adaptor on manifold for ext. wgate feed. (i think its called a V-band anyway) it all bolts together very nicely n neatly from what I've tried - bloody heavy mind. Will a twin scroll really make that much difference in this application? I mean are we talking "it wont run" or "you'll lose a few bhp" ? If the manifold is designed for a twin turbo setup then surely the manifolds would be more like the RB26DETT with two small manifolds instead of the one?

okay here's the pics of the downpipe and also the manifold with the adjustments.. downpipe has pipe for ext. wgate return instead of VTA close up of downipipe for turbo side... close up of ext. wgate pipe.. close up of manifold with welded T3 flange on it. close up of pipe on manifold of pipe for ext. wgate really wish I knew the correct terminology for all the pipe names lol!
-
yes it was welded on but I think they had to drill the holes a touch wider. there is a pipe for the ext. wgate - its on the other side of the manifold lol. Basically the pipe off the manifold & the pipe off the downpipe connect to the wastegate instead of the wgate venting to atmos. heres a couple of pics of the manifold that I found - again I'll try n get some more recent ones up later on there is actually a band for the wgate to connect to on the end of the ext. wgate manifold feed - same way there is one on the downpipe... plenum too been wanting to fit this before now but worried its going to affect my airflow n mapping even tho my car is mapped quite rich to deal with the front entry plenum mod I have on now...
-
NYTSKY - can you explain further please how having two ports from the manifold to the turbo will not work? Thats not meant to sound short or curt... just interested in your thoughts on that. Surely if the air is exiting the manifold and entering the turbo its going to spin right? the manifold is indeed T4 - however those pics are a bit old - As Worp3D there said.. I've had a T3 plate welded onto the T4 one. Its increased the height by about 12-15mm I think ...is that really going to affect things massively? The manifold was bought from Owen developments in the uk and is for an RB25det so it should be fine surely? Also the pics dont show it but the manifold has a take off pipe (dunno what the proper name is) for the ext. wgate to fit onto. Normally this would be vta but I've asked for a pipe to be fitted on the downpipe so it plumbs back into the exhaust.. I didn't fancy being a magnet for every cop with sharp ears in a 5 mile radius. I'll try n get some pics up of the stuff later guys but for today I'm off to lob myself from planes lol.
-
hi guys I haven't had chance to fit mine yet - still waiting for my garage to get released.. shouldn't be long now tho - end of feb I get it wootage. I have a top mount manifold, gt3076R, properly jigged up downpipe and ext. wgate 44mm. I also have a greddy plenum sat waiting to go on with the lot. My engine is fully forged and most things are port n polished. gonna get myself some ponscams for the finishing touch and I have 550cc injectors in the car too. heres a coupla pics of the bits I've got so far... here's the downpipe I had made up from conceptua tuning over here in the uk.. ext.wgate please excuse the parachute and jumpsuit its all resting on in some pics lol.. missus said she'd ave me if I got any bedsheets mucky lol!
-
hi mate to be honest I'm really not sure at all - need to find that out myself - I take it your fitting one then rad32? Just a quick update on mine guys... got me downpipe made up, got a Tial 44mm ext. wgate, got the tub, got the top mount manifold sorted, got a gtr style greddy plenum with adaptor plate for throttle, got the gaskets n bits for fitting so I'm good to go! happy new year by the way ppl! ant

'jun Style' Copy Intake Plenum For Rb25
anthonymcgrath replied to jonnob55's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
hey guys sorry for bringing up an old thread but I've done some searching on here and I didn't want to pester everyone by kicking up another new thread. I asked about a greddy style plenum on here not too long back - I got a reply from a company called performance-wise. I've dealt with this chap a few years ago and bought a PowerFC for my first 33gtst at a great price. anyhow I got a pm for a greddy style plenum from this chap - I tried putting up the pic but it wont let me strangely so here's a link... http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/ms...25det-intake-ma $460 shipped from uk - seems like a great price but my question is would it cause any issues? I've heard all kinds of thoughts on proper Greddy/Trust ones vs copies. I have to say I doubt theres any blinking difference, but seeing as you guys have tinkered with these cars over there far more than us backyard enthusiasts have here. I'd appreciate your thoughts on this - I cant afford a true Trust/Greddy one (are they the same company?) so a copy would have to do but would I be looking at any tinkering/butchering to get it to fit? thanks! anthony uk -
hey all, I was wondering if any of you particularly knowledgable chaps on here could take a look at richy's thread here on skylineowners.com. He's spent the last 6-9 months building it and really spared no expense on it but for some darn reason it simply wont fire up. He's swapped out and replaced nearly every part and the only thing I can think of myself (and I dont know much) is a wiring issue between ecu and engine somewhere. Its an R32gtr block with a single turbo conversion and when it runs it should be bonkers in the lighter gtst body! If any of you could look through the last few pages and share your advice with him I'm sure he'd appreciate it as its sat gathering dust on his driveway and when you see the pics in the thread you'll think its criminal for it to not be running lol! richys RB26 build on skylineowners.com cheers guys ant
-
ah that makes sense - cheers guys thanks for clearing up the terminology for me there! yeah If I'm gonna get this fitted then I figure I may as well splash out on the rest of the bits - engine is forged so if i'm gonna be running high boost settings then its spending a bit more. oh and as for the cricket - we're always getting owned - the sports lethargy in our country is incredible.
-
cheers guys well I'm gonna stick with this .63 turbine housing. I'm gonna get myself a top mount manifold and an ext. wgate. The only issue is getting the elbow and downpipe sorted out. worp3d thanks for the explanation there about AR sizes - that did indeed help
-
hang on I have that wrong - the turbine side is the side driven by exhaust gas and the compressor side is the bit that sucks the air in! so my turbo: compressor AR - 0.63 turbine (exhaust side) AR - 0.82 I've done some more reading and it seems the .63 is better for the gtst as it spools in the 4-7000rpm range - the .82 would be better suited to heavy cams and a high revving engine that does 9000rpm or even higher. Seems this turbo is spot on. The chap at realstreetperformance said garrett dont make a 5 bolt exhaust housing - its precision turbos who make that but seeing as I would need to make a turbo elbow up anyhow with 5 bolt flange then making one with a 4 bolt flange isn't really any more work. Only things I really need to find are the stuff like the top mount manifold and ext. wgate really.
-
yeah that sounds about right for me lol! So turbine side is the air that will go into the car. compressor side is the exhaust side basically!
-
hi Wolverine - I'm beginning to suspect you dont sleep over there lol! So the turbine side being .60 isn't a bad thing then thats cool. From what I've read on here ppl seem to go with a .82 turbine side and an internal wastegate.. or they go with a .60 turbine side and fit an external wg. I wanted to do .82 with internal but looks like I may have to do the other route unless they swap with me. It wasn't actually tweakit I got it through it was with a realstreetperformance from the US - some email confusion on my part caused me to buy from the wrong person but they do seem to be quite cool (I'm a big fail at all this buying online - much prefer shops or the phone!!). Yeah I did want to do the garrett route as they make great reliable turbos and shoehorning bigger parts into a machined nissan housing didn't appeal. The hks ones are pure extortion.
-
okies heres some pics of the turbo... 4 bolt flange design on the butt.. here's where I epic failed to specify that it is a 5 bolt design but thinking about it - it shouldn't matter really should it? I mean nissan has a 6 bolt design so I'd still be messing about chopping an welding.. oil and water lines go in here I'm guessing... altho knowing my luck they dont! T3 flange? probably not again knowing my luck... the front - bigger than I thought.. here's where my confusion arises now... it says 0.60 A/R on the turbine side... and also inside the charge air out port of the turbine however on the exhaust housing I have the following inside... it reads 0.82in so I'm a bit confused now as I thought the .82 was related to the turbine side not exhaust side...
-
If I ran with the one I need it seems I will need to change my exhaust manifold to accomodate the external wastegate Then I will need to change the turbo elbow and find one that mates to this turbo. Then use a V-band fitting kit to get the turbo elbow to mate up to the downpipe. All in all it sounds like a total house of horrors and I'm not that good at welding either ..why the hell cant they just be plug and play ffs?
-
Thanks Wolverine. Well i'm a bit narked off - my GT3076R arrived today and I've noticed it has a .6 housing on the turbine side and no internal wastegate on the exhaust side! Also the flange on the other side is a 4 bolt pattern instead of the nissan 5 bolt. Now I'm lost - looking through my emails I didn't specify which one I was after so he's just sent through the turbo. I'm tempted to put it up on ebay and flog it, get my cash back then get another through tweakit.net whom seem to be much more knowledgable and they do a turbo/fitting kit with it too. My question is - is it still fittable? I've read that the smaller housing without an internal wastegate is a good idea but is fitting an external wastegate a good idea with the skyline? thoughts and ppl in the know with this would be much appreciated as I'm a hairs breadth from packing the whole skyline scene in now ta ant
-
great stuff .82 and internal wgate is what I opted for - after reading up on here a few ppl said that its the original spec from garrett and the smaller housings cause overboost and spikes so I ran with that Yeah it worked out at a good price but hilariously I ended up getting it from a different company after some idiotic email confusion on my part (its confusing and difficult to explain but suffice it to say I am a muppet!). However it still worked out the same price so now I just need a fitting kit. Would tweakit do that kit separately and post it through my way do you know? bit frustrating I never get email notifications that I posted up on this thread - and I always tick the box below doh! anyhow looking forward to getting turbo and getting it installed
-
hiya. I'm pretty sure it should ideally sit at 0.5v which is lambda (14.7:1 ideal afr) and it should periodically flick from 0 to 1. I know its never this exact but 0.2 sounds like its running a spot rich overall (never a bad thing I think personally - much better than the other way around lol!). The fact it doesn't move suggests the o2 sensor may have seen better days and they're not that much to replace so usually worth doing I think if you haven't. edit sorry its the other way around - 1v is rich, 0v lean - sorry about that!
