HOWTO: RB25DET High Boost mode with standard solenoid
anthonymcgrath replied to paulr33's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
here y'go dude - heres my quick n easy pic: -
hi guys thanks for the replies - unfortunately I'm gonna have to wait for a while (about another month) before runnin out an getting one as the remap is gonna cost me enough at the end of this month pity as I'd love to have had it fitted prior to the mapping. anyhow I'll keep checkin back! cheers ant newcastle uk
-
hiya what does this front mount look like? do you have any pics? I'm still after an underwing one really (I heard arc make good ones but the R34gtt is a good enough upgrade for me).
-
hi there I'm chasing after an R34GTT intercooler. however I'm based in the UK britain (great weather... really). Is anyone selling one? I cant find one for love nor money over here ...everyone is just trying to sell me an FMIC but I dont really wanna have to butcher my front bumper and I like the idea of keeping every modification stealthy... here in the uk I'll only end up having some tracksuit wearing lowlife kick the shiny front mount intercooler in when he sees it on the front of the car hope anyone can help ...car goes in for fitment of PFC (bought if off gR33dy here on SAU) end of this month so I'll post up my dyno sheets and results too cheers anthony newcastle uk

HOWTO: RB25DET High Boost mode with standard solenoid
anthonymcgrath replied to paulr33's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
kinda cool I like it! I just ran with snipping the wire - its easily replaceable in the end the infinite boost thing is interesting tho - what on earth happened there then hehe! -
wow thanks frinik - its on youtube hehe! should get a few more viewers now I did a basic storyboard showing the keyshots I wanted in the animation (engine shot and brake disc shot for example) but I made a more involved animatic for the sequence and then built it up from there. after that it was just a case of adding layers of detail

HOWTO: RB25DET High Boost mode with standard solenoid
anthonymcgrath replied to paulr33's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
hey mad082 have you got uprated turbo or anything else to be running 11psi? (just confirm for me ..that is about 1.1bar of boost right?) how are you upping the boost ..with a boost controller or anything else? after a while of driving with the boost solenoid earthed permanently (as per tutorial) I generally see about 0.65 to 0.75bar of boost. I've heard stock tubbys are good for a safe 0.9bar so not too worried. Its a shedload quicker off the mark too esp. if I find a good bite point. ..going to collect me car today - had a twin plate OSgiken and lightened flywheel fitted too hurrah! should be funny when I get my hybrid turbo in -
Diy Aac Valve Cleaning & Idle Reset.
anthonymcgrath replied to insu's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
can you not just carefully screw it in and use a very small screwdriver to help persuade the idle screw rubber sheath back in? Mine went in without any hassles but I did have to play carefully with the rubber sheath when putting it back in mine is idling between 650 and 700rpm but I heard the 33gtst's are meant to idle as low as 600rpm - I think ppl increase the idle point a little simply because its so low it doesn't take much dipping below that point for the car to stall. -
yeah I've got a Z32 but I was told I wont really need one until I'm running higher boost - I might consider getting it fitted anyhow tho AAC - Auxiliary Air Control valve ..theres a tutorial on this site on cleaning it out
-
wow great advice mine has been playing up a little in my R33gtst. I tried cleaning it out with elec contact cleaner but it made little difference. I've also tried the AAC valve and it still seems to want to play up a little at times (although cleaning the AAC has helped the car shedloads at 5-10mph speeds so I definitely recommend that bit of maintenance). I'll give my AFM a shot and see how the connections are to the plug (might get a spare first tho eh hehe!) SAU rules! ant newcastle uk

Diy Aac Valve Cleaning & Idle Reset.
anthonymcgrath replied to insu's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
followed this tutorial and got my AAC valve off without too much hassle and it were proper coked up!! Getting the pipe off the bottom is a bit of chew on but take the big one off first near the purple n brown plugs and it aint too difficult. Lost my blue O-ring as well for about 20minutes but found it in the end hehehe! its made a real difference to the idling of the car and I only had to make a small idle adjustment to the idle screw on the AAC to get it back to 600-700rpm idling point. The car also seems a touch smoother when dawdling along at 5-10mph in slow traffic so thats made life alot easier hehe! thanks for the very tidy and neat tutorial insu if you've any more tutorials you can point to on this site regarding maintenance of yer gtst point me to em -
HOWTO: RB25DET High Boost mode with standard solenoid
anthonymcgrath replied to paulr33's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
ah reet I see - In all honesty mate I dont know - I've just done it and I'll see how it goes - if the solenoid pops then I'll get a new un hehe :-/ i've just got a new turbo with a busted shaft which I'm gonna turn into a hybrid and I've also ordered a new PFC from gR33ddy for a great price off this very site which I should see next week. Once all thats in along with other bits (arc intercooler etc..) I should see quite a hike in performance and a single stage of boost anyhow hehe! I think earlier in the thread ppl mentioned removing the solenoid all together. not sure if anyone went with this route tho. ant -
HOWTO: RB25DET High Boost mode with standard solenoid
anthonymcgrath replied to paulr33's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
RaseR: I think it just keeps the solenoid open permanently. either way you only see 0.7bar of boost on a normal gtst anyhow - by doing this mod you just make it see the extra 0.2bar of boost in the lower rev range which it would see anyhow if you gun the car hard enough in those gears. Its gonna put a little more strain on the stock tubby but they're good for 0.9bar I've read. MMM: heres a diagram I did for a mate elsewhere.... lookin at solenoid from front of car just snip the black wire, solder an extra bit to the end of the left half and earth it to a good point on the car - pref as near as possible like beneath a pod filter bracket which is what I did. tape up loose ends and try it out. its just a little wire mate -
hi links I did the animation using profile images - the kind you find on th side of airfix car model boxes hehe. These can be found on sites like www.suurland.com That and a heap of reference images from other sites like gtroc.co.uk and skylineowners.com other than that they were manually modelled. I reckon I could have put more detail in (full interior etc...) but I'll save that for another project

HOWTO: RB25DET High Boost mode with standard solenoid
anthonymcgrath replied to paulr33's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
hey guys did this over the wkend and definitely saw a change - I usually was getting about 0.45-0.5bar of boost and a higher rev range of 0.6-0.7bar. Well since doing this mod (and it is that easy just do the soldering, neat wiring stuff, and a good earth as mentioned!!) i've noticed a big increase in grunt in early gears - I can now shift off the lights at roundabouts and nip in thru traffic whereas previously the boost wasn't really helping to shift the car off the mark - its not massive but its definitely noticeable. cheers just ordered a pfc off gr33ddy (paul) here on skylinesaustralia so looking forward to getting that -
I aint got a copy in the office at present to upload I'm afraid but if anyone can download it and get a copy up on utube that'd be cool savefile is a bit kooky from time to time - its very on and off but it does download
-
hi guys thanks for the comments - yeah I'm the creator of the animation hehe thought I'd post it up here as I didn't know if it had been seen over there but apparently its done the rounds worldwide it would seem hehe god bless the internet the animation was done using alias/autodesk maya and took about 5-6months total but that included modelling, animation, rendering and compositing. I got inspired off all the need for speed intros and thought i'd have a shot myself really as work wasn't really providing me any kind of challenge! I could have done it quicker if working on it full time but i only had evenings and a coupla wkends to dedicate. I reckon I could do it a heap load better too seeing as later versions of software have all these clever render layer tools and advanced rendering tricks hehe! it was a fun project to do tho and I would love to do another for a vid game or something glad you all like tho
-
would love to but dont want 500bhp and nitrous.... yet hahaha! I'm Happy buying the bits as I need em and learning something as they're fitted i'm only looking for 360-400bhp maximum really but I'd be happy with an extra 50bhp on standard. I've only got a decat pipe, hks pod and kakimoto back box. I've just been speakin to a chap on here and am gonna get the apexi power FC from him at end of this month - it really needs that and a tune up first
-
thanks Dee - I just got PM'd from a chap on here whos a trader - his sau name is gR33ddy and he's offered me a powerFC and commander for my 33gtst for a good price (uk's prices are ballistic guys - cant wait to get out of this country!!) so thats a couple hundred quid saved right away hehehe!
-
thanks Col - I'm chasing one furiously at present hehehe but this wiring diagram seems quite clear - think I've got the series2 R33 mind - dont know if thats good or bad or just slightly different!
-
I like this - I have exactly the same pod filter but I never thought to keep that feed that directs air to the old airbox attached - does this send cold air more directly to the pod - have you noticed a difference if its not there?
-
thanks nismoid - was just kinda hoping the power FC would work for both gtr and gtst R33 models - everyime I see one for sale on ebay everyone seems to flog it as being able to do that
-
hey guys, in my last post I said I were after a power FC. well it seems trying to get one of these in the uk is near impossible. I could buy brand new but its a bit out my price range (looking to spend £450 at most really) - I seen one for sale but its for an R33GTR - will it work with the 33gtst? I can get a hand controller easily enough spare for a cheap price so thats cool. I know this question has prob been answered numerous timeses but i've been in the office since monday night and not slept yet so quite cabbaged!! please help - really wanting to get this bought and get it to thetuners garge thanx ant newacastle uk
-
well over here in the uk I've seen em for 320quid or more which sounds quite high anyhow to be honest. I'm gonna try taping mine up and the like first and see if the sticky thread advice helps me out - if it fixes it temporarily I know any hesitancy is down to em being shafted really
-
hehehe so if I see ebay flooded with coilpacks for skylines I know you guys over in oz are stood around rubbing yer mitts whilst yer motor sits next to you unable to fire up hehehe
