Silly title, I know but I couldn't come up with a better one.
Late last year the oil cooler in my Bora let go and it sucked all 5L of engine oil into my cooling system. I've since replaced the cooler, thermostat, thermostat housing, temp sensor and a few other little bits and pieces. It appears my temp sensor was dead and my car would never go over 90 degrees no matter how hot it was (maybe a factor in the oil cooler going.)
The cooling system has been flushed 8 times now, (3 by a mechanic who I thought he was going to pressure flush it but he only did the same as me which is to use a flushing additive and run it for a few hours.)
The cooling system works beautifully, its only had water and additive in it since its been running again and it never gets hot and flow is fine. (I can view temp on my climate control interface and I can't get it over ~85). It is definitely not blocked anywhere but every flush I do reveals tiny little globules of oil in the expansion tank. There must be on miniscule bits of oil in there now and I'm not totally sure that I need to keep flushing it.
VW coolant is expensive and I'm only using VW approved additives and oils as the old girl needs all the love she can get. I don't want to add the coolant only to find its been destroyed by any remaining oil.
So, a few questions here;
Can I add coolant now?
How can I get all the little bits of oil out?
Should I change my radiator?
Thanks guys!
