So what would be a good setup with a stock RB20DET, i.e. what lift, duration would you use (what cams, i was thinking HKS step 1 264 for both in and out) and would it be necessary to upgrade the valve springs with these cams? Can you go to step 2 on stock valve springs (i didnt think it was advisable) Also why do some people use 256 in and 264 out?
  6. 272 10mm lift in, 280 10mm lift exh. Will these work? Will they work with stock springs and lifters (as i am not sure if they are step 1,2 or 3)? Thanks.

  8. well it's all about give up the balance and make it a straigt line ONLY car. As the front is too heavy the car will lost the RWD oversteer natural and understeer a lot more. ***Have you driven a car with a RB engine in a sil? If not i wouldnt make such a comment. as the latest speed magazine show a s13 pulling 310rwkw at stock internal. *** I doubt it would last very long or be very streetable.

  11. But having a small pipe from turbo to intake would restrict flow? Meaning that a 3" pipe might be an overkill...?
  12. Well my theory is that the turbo to IC pipe should be bigger then IC to throttle for 1 reason: 1. Hot air takes up more space then cold air (i.e. is less dense, therfore requires a bigger space to flow the same volume of air) There are more reasons (and theories) to why i think this setup is better, however that is the main reason. I just can see how having a smaller pipe (say 2") from the turbo to IC and then a massive (say 3" pipe) from IC to throttle. Why would this setup be better if it is? Can anyone shed any light on this?
  13. just a quick question: what is the ideal pipe sizes for turbo to IC and ic to throttle body to flow no more then say 500hp for example (i.e. aftermarket turbo used). Also reasons for this setup.
  14. you will get a 1/2 cut for 4.5k so doing it at a workshop for 5-6k is very unrealistic, i think dabigbolf spent quite a bit more then that... if you are looking for only 170-200rwkw, stick with either teh SR20 or if you really want to do an engine swap the RB20 (which is alot cheaper to do as well), id sayonly go the 25 if your looking for more then 250rwkw...

  16. A few questions guys: 1. Does anyone know the profiles of RB20DE and RB25DE cams? 2. Are these possible to fit into a RB20DET? 3. Can i use RB26DETT soild lifters in a RB20DET, if so is it a hard job to swap? How much would these be?
  17. Steve, So you think that on a RB20DET a HKS GT2530 will flow 400hp (250rwkw), or should a bigger turbo be chosen? There will be other mods (cams, head work, no internals) to add in getting the power, but correct me if i am wrong, i understand that an engine can only make the power (give or take a bit) that the amount of air a turbo can flow. E.g. if a turbo can flow 300hp of air, then the engine can only make 300hp (+- 10hp or whatever the tolerance is).

  21. Thanks SydneyKid, I was just unsure whether 400hp would make 250rwkw, but now i know it does, so ill set my target a bit lower. In regards to the cams, so HKS 264 cams are out of the question? What would you suggest then? HKS 256 or RB20DE or RB25DE cams? With the turbo, i have heard some many different stories i am more lost now then when i first learnt what a turbo is! I have heard that the HKS GT2530 wont make 250rwkw, and some people say it will. Some say GCG turbos are not as responsive as HKS items. Others say the HKS GT2835 will be the best suited turbo as it isnt that much laggier then a 2530 but offers alot more power. So i dont know what to believe. My goal is 250rwkw, using stock internals and have it as responsive as possible. Any suggestions on what turbo to use?
