Rb20det Computer/piggy Back Under $1k
kristafa replied to XtremeChief's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Dude your in brisbane so the best bet would be seeing Mercury Motorsport for a Dr Drift remap. Reasonable prices, $600 including fitting the new chip and 2hrs dyno time for tuning. Extra visits for remapping (more mods, etc) $300 from memory. -
now that makes perfect sense! cheers. consider this thread solved, thanks

R32: How Long Before The Engine Is Hot
kristafa replied to kristafa's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
purely for diagnostics.. i've got better things to do when fuel is nearly $1.40/L -
fyi: rb20det in e36 bmw on the side of my rb20 block i can kinda get to this oil pressure sensor lookin thing - which i'm not using since i have a sandwich plate with sensors in it. Thing is, i really want to wire in my 'OIL WARNING LAMP' in my bmw cluster, so i need to locate the oil pressure switch on the rb motor (which i assume is not a variable type resister like a oil gauge uses, but more like a on/off switch which i can use to control the relay for the dash light). That oil pressure thing that i've located, well i tried testing it with my digi multimeter but i couldn't find out difinitively how the bastard works.. Anybody shed some light on this matter for me pleaseeee... PS - any help on wiring my tacho in too would help.. i have a aftermarket tacho at the mo, but i would like to use the orig instrument cluster tacho! I know a few ppl on this forum have done bmw conversions b4, so share the secrets.. Cheers, Chris.

R32: How Long Before The Engine Is Hot
kristafa replied to kristafa's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
i have 2 AFM's here and neither fix the problem, i've checked vacuum leaks everywhere. 55 all clear fault code. i've been thru 2 oxy sensors coz they keep going black so i'm not gonna buy another one until i fix the problem (which is obviously occuring accel/under boost so the oxy sensor isn't used at that time). is it possible that it just needs to be tuned? i thought the ecu would be good for putting out at least 11.5:1 without tuning it.. would the timing have something to do with richness, maybe i need to get a mecho to look at the timing..? -

Got front mount, aftermarket fuel pump (walbro), 3" turbs back exhaust, apexi pod, stock boost and everything else. and its in a bmw but that shouldn't have much bearing on the matter. i know these run rich and all, but i got like 110rwkw on the dyno and the guy there said his machine couldn't read below 10:1 AFRs, and i was flat 10:1 across the board so he suggested i may be running alot richer than even 10:1. smoke bellowing out the back under booooost. -
Recently bought a consult interface which shows me what the sensors are doing (thanks newKleer). The main purpose of buying it was to find out why i'm running so rich (<10:1) - faulty sensors?!? After 5 mins idle - 40*C After 15 mins idle - 71*C After 20 mins idle then quick drive - 73*C seems like it takes forever to heat up, and i dont know if it will even reach the 80*C mark - my question is anybody think that its the temp sensor, or does it normally take quite a while to get to the 80*C running temp? i know that, if engine temp < 80*C then it will use the 'cold engine' map which are rich as hell, could this exlain why i'm running rich all the time? I can provide screen dumps of the gauge panel from the consult software ECUTalk. any help would be GRREEEEEEEAT

yeah either your afm is no good or bad connections.. may not be worth buying another afm if it ends up being some built up crap on your plug or dodgy wires..
-
where u located, i have a spare afm so u can test it out. i'm brisbane, on the sth side
-
are you kidding me? wouldnt you go through the reserve list sequentially to find a buyer? Man i really need this cable its costing me 100bucks a week to run my 9.5:1 fuel loving car.

Ordering a slide hiflow turbo soon, and anticipate that i'll need to do some AFR correction on the dyno to get the most out of it. I see chiptorque offers a re-chip + dyno tune for around $1k, but i was wondering if there's anywhere else around that offers the same service? Some posts suggest that dr drift is a good alternative but dont know when he'll be in bris next.. i want to get something done soonish. Would anyone suggest that i just go with a apexi safc or something so any tuner can tune it? would it offer similar flexibility/performance? any help appreciated, chris.
