    Ferrari Crash

Courtesy of AAP via FerrariChat Driver questioned over fatal 'race' crash From: AAP July 28, 2006 THE driver of a Ford Falcon GT sought over a fatal high speed crash that killed two people in a Ferrari has turned himself in to Victorian police. A 42-year-old man was questioned and then released by police after coming forward at the Moe Police Station in Victoria's Latrobe Valley late last night, a Victoria Police spokeswoman said today. The man's Falcon GT had been seized and would be checked by forensic experts today, she said. Police yesterday said the Ferrari and a late model silver Ford Falcon GT with distinctive orange stripes were racing moments before the Italian car ran off the road and struck a tree on the Warburton Highway at Lilydale about 12.45pm (AEST) Wednesday. The Ferrari's 33-year-old driver and a 27-year-old female passenger, died on impact. Major collision investigation unit acting Senior Sergeant Paul Cripps told reporters yesterday police believed the cars were travelling at more than 150km/h when the crash happened. "They were both seen together at the lights at the intersection of the Warburton and Maroondah highways, they were both seen travelling at high speed and they were both in close proximity when the collision occurred. "We will be speaking to each and every owner of those vehicles to try to ascertain their whereabouts at the time of the collision." Fewer than 100 Falcon GTs like the once described by police are registered in Victoria. I don't think there's too many 42yo football players left.
  2. If you're throwing Ohlins at tehm then you'll need your 15K for the shocks alone.
  3. Don't take this as another Commode bash but I am worried that Holden is releasing this car at completely the wrong time in history. Car manufacturing is a bit of a crystal ball game. The planning for this car would have started when fuel was still 85-90c per litre and no one expected another oil shock anytime soon. In fact, crude was going for around USD20 per barrel at that time! I know as I was in the oil industry at the time. A couple of things are setting off alarm bells for me. The big one was Mark Skaife being harangued at the release by a pack of journo's resembling wild wolves. The questions came thick and fast about fuel economy and weight and all Skaifey could come back with was "it makes a lot more power than the last one". Dear me..................
  4. I guess it means your pretty healthy!
  5. LOL, the DAQ gear is there for the drivers benefit more than the cars most of the time.
  6. Yeah it is a bit over the top. Although a lot of the wierder stuff we'd do in house and actually doesn't involve that much that's exotic. Hhmmmmm, got me thinkin' now.................
  7. I've seen it before in a V10 Viper and it was a detonation issue. It broke 2 gudegeons and had 4 more cracked ones. That was a brand new engine with Wiseco's. It was rebuilt and retuned (the right way!) and it's never had anothe problem since, even with the same pistons.
  8. Have you got a pic of the top of the piston?
  9. Has anyone got an RB25 inlet manifold? I only need the bottom bit that bolts to the head. We want to do a multi throttle manifold using Jenvey TB's. For that matter even an inlet manifold gasket would do.
  10. I was talking to a front running IPRA guy not long ago who said they were looking at fixing the regs so that late model cars aren't so disadvantaged. th eproblem they have is that no one will build a post 86 car as you get slugged with weight straight away. This is leading to a grid packed with old RX7's that are running on budgets of up to 100K per season! Capacity classes under 2L, under 3L, open or soemthing like that with inlet restrictor against minimum weight. Easy enough to police and keeps everything fair. Oh, and a control semi slick tyre.
  11. http://www.compsystems/Movies/2005_gemenos_castellana.wmv Spanish hillclimb championship. Do I have to say any more?
  12. I used to race karts but don't get enough time now. I stil get out and have a fang at Todd Rd with the boys. Best fun you can have with your pants on and not that expensive once you've gotten over the shock of buying a kart. I also did a bit of Superkarting a few years ago. That was cool as you got to run on full size tracks.
  13. Ok using IPRA regs from memory R32 RWD (min weight can be 90kg lighter) strip interior, seam weld shell 8 point cage with lateral bars at a/b/c pillars and front strut bars. 'Glass front dam with splitter and undertray (push that as far as the rules will go) Polycarbonate windows Everything above the axle centreline either gets mounted onteh floor or turned into plastic/CF/'glass (where applicable) Flat floor with tunnels (I can't find anything to say you can't do it!) Turn P/S from mechanical to electric pump (not as expensive or as hard as it sounds) Here's the bit that'll freak people out RB30 Naturally aspirated with double cam head 12.5:1 CR 50mm ITB's Big cam EFI Euro96 ECU Bosch 044 pumps X2 Aiming for 350-400hp at the flywheel Why? Because then you can run at 1225kg min instead of 1455! Turbo engines have a 1.7 equ factor so a RB30 turbo is a 5.1L (1455kg RWD/1545kgAWD) and even a RB26 is the 4.4 so it falls inteh same weight class. Exedy clutch with light flywheel A Hollinger would be nice but I think that's getting a little too much Suspension custom bars Koni 2812's (if budget allows) Otherwise Koni yellow Eibach springs (I'm guessing 300-500lb) Fiddle with geometry/mounts/bushes Brakes Bias bar Brembo's F&R PFC rotors and pads Quiafe/Torsen LSD Digitek logger with dash and as many sensors as I could afford (shock pots, steer angle, etc) I think I've blown the build budget for the year so far. But then, if you want cheap, buy a Playstation!
