  1. Cheers man that's some awesome input, enjoyed reading it very much. I'll be posting my old dyno run vs my new one once my car is back up & running hopefully to show a reasonable comparison between the greddy & plazmaman plenum! However in the mean time I'm really interested in hearing about the way you guys went about testing for leaks. I'd love to do the same & see if my setup has any once it's back together! If it's something easy to do at home & save some $$$ that's always a bonus!
  2. Thanks for that mate you're a champion! I'm ordering a copy now! ??
  3. Thanks again for the great post mate, Yeh I know what u mean, we were referring to the top half of the plenum not having coolant through it. I guess the only gain is from having the phenolic spacer is that the head itself is not in direct contact with the lower runners so therefore some heat should be lost but the coolant flow still will cause some heat gain! No biggie though ? I think they won't be a bad thing in any case! I'll fitting one to mine so I'll see how it works out!
  4. Yeah sorry mate didn't get a chance to re-read or edit my post had to head off quickly cheers for clearing that up. Personally I think IAC won't make much difference as far as the temps go cause the coolant flow into it is minimal but was wondering if the person who used the phenolic spacer could comment further ?
  5. Awesome to hear from someone who used a phenolic gasket!! I have 1 question though, if the temps were similar while it was running due to the coolant, is it the same when u switched the car off, as in did the inlet manifold cool quicker than usual (could u touch the plenum within a few minutes without it almost burning u) or is the coolant still causing heat to be retained...?
  6. Hey mate thanks a lot for commenting & I know what u mean with everything your saying! My question is when keeping all the variables the same except for either the plenum or a spacer with the existing plenum what would the results be.... The setup I had was very similar to yours 3037pro s greddy plenum with q45 throttle body pon cams & a rare HKS GTII top mount manifold external gate. With a .87 housing (weird hks sizing) on 21-22psi I was making 330rwkw on e85 but full boost 4th gear on the dyno wasn't til after 4000rpm maybe around 4200..... When I had a .72 housing & 98 unleaded it was making 310rwkw on similar boost & similar response. My ecu is a power fc.... I have personally always wondered if mechanics are giving ur car the best effort they possibly can...... I'm not an expert so I don't know, a lot has been trial & error & I've had some misleading info in my time thats why i try tread carefully cause I've spent a lot of money on my car. If my car was making full boost around 3500 I would be ridiculously happy...... Don't know why people with 3076r/3037s are making boost earlier than me I just wonder if we are comparing figures correctly ?? Really want to learn how to tune so I can start doing it on my car then moving on to friends cars too! Cheers for the input anything more u got mate is appreciated
  7. I think you & me need a megaphone or something lol! Definitely people out there who've done these mods probably just haven't been on in a while or not reading this topic...... Hhhhmmmmm *scratches non existent beard*
  8. Bump, still hoping that someone who has done the spacer mod on a greddy can comment to give people info if they decide to go down that path ?
  9. All those style of plenums aren't the best for midrange torque or for better spool that's why I'm making the swap from greddy to plazmaman.... It's the design in the short runners that makes them like that. if it's made for r33 rb25 it would fit on a neo without too much hassle! ??
  10. 6mm wouldn't make any difference in a bad or good way really it's too small to change the characteristic of an engine but the heat soak benefits would be worth while I would think.... ? definitely let us know how u go!
  11. Unfortunately our engine bays don't accomodate 100mm ? so it looks like the spacer idea for midrange is not a good thing to consider! I'm thinking a thin spacer from mace engineering for heat soak purposes with a plazmaman plenum is a win win ? Thinking I'll paint my plazmaman plenum same colour as my cam covers but I'm wondering wether I should paint the factory runners also or just have them cleaned up.......?
  12. I'm guessing that would be in a R34? That wouldn't make bugger all difference to the midrange. In a R33 you might have a bit more room but I think even at best 40mm wouldn't make much of a difference From what my mechanic says. Seems like the plazmaman plenum is the best option out of the forward facing plenums! I need a bargain like Mrfijigold seems to have landed! I might be selling my hks 3037s but we'll see ? After I fit my Neo if I end up using the same turbo then I'll post my old dyno run vs my new. I know it's not a fair comparison but it's something. My old setup was an R33 rb25 with a greddy plenum my new setup (If i don't change turbos) will be a Neo with a plazmaman...... I'll post updates as they happen in the mean time anymore input on the original topics is appreciated ?
  13. That would be good to know if anyone has used the mace engineering ones, I'm interested cause u can use those spacers with any plenum u decide to run as long as it's not that thick I don't think u would need to modify anything. I gather u went from stock to plazmaman & didn't feel any gains..... Ive currently got the greddy & that's what started this whole thread, would it make much of a difference midrange torque/lag wise to run a spacer & would it pose any problems..... I know some guys have done it unfortunately none of them have commented (maybe they haven't read this or no longer active members). I love the look for the greddy but now I am willing to switch to less pretty (in my opinion) plazmaman if there is noticable midrange gains to be had & so far that seems to be a resounding yes from everyone. I had an r33 rb25 (rest well my faithful motor u will be back one day) but for now I'm buying a 25neo & not sure wether to do just Pistons & headgasket (maybe oil pump as I have billet gears sitting here) & put that back in (trying to keep costs down)!! Of course also doing the plazmaman plenum change over from the greddy & I'll see what the results look like I know it's not exactly a great comparison but it's better than nothing
  14. Thanks wildeagle44, how many mm's do you think the spacer could be before you would have space/fittment issues?
  15. Blackbox & GTRPSI thanks for the inputs. By the sounds of it the plazmaman plenum seems to win in this situation now to find one for a neo at a good price ? ps anyone with more info please throw your 2c in here
  16. Gtsboy that's what I was hoping to hear but it seems like the people who have spacers on their greddy's are no where to be found or just don't wanna tell us lol Any dyno results would end all the head scratching hahaha
  17. That's what my thoughts were until I was reading about the 26 itb plenum & when blitz did it to nomuken's car they gained power accross the whole rev range..... Just not sure if it's all true cause plazmaman guarantee their results & some people didn't get good results using that plenum so I'm worried same thing will happen with 26 plenum Here's the link by the way to the blitz info hard to read in jap lol http://www.ricohracing.com/ricoh-home/ricoh-home/rb25henkan/rb25_6ren.htm Ps I can buy an adapter decently cheap to be able to put the 26 plenum on so price isn't the issue its just what will work best?
  18. Here's another question I'd like to throw out there......... On an RB25neo with a 3076r & plenty of other bolt ons what would give the best mid range torque & spool time out of these 3 forward facing plenum options: 1. Plazmaman plenum 2. Greddy plenum with a spacer 3. RB26 plenum with itb's & I'm not talking about throttle response I'm talking about best mid range/less lag plenum! Interested in people's thoughts cause they are my 3 options from here on in. People who have done any of these setups please share your thoughts & to any lucky (or should I say unlucky person) that has done a couple of different setups in the quest of best mid range ff plenum please share your pain & gain
  19. Awesome guys keep the posts coming!! Yeah I've been considering the whole injector thing & brake master issues....I was hoping there would be a few guys who have done the mod & can confirm for us! Cheers Ben I'll keep that in mind man appreciate it. Gtsboy that's some good thinking there
  20. Dammit Ben lol wasn't hoping to hear that haha nah cheers for the post mate I need to hear all the info on this so I can to see wether it's worth doing or not! Gotta be a few people with RB25's, spacer fitted to their greddy plenum share your opinion/findings please
  21. Hi everyone, been searching forums & Google for a while now struggling to find detailed info on my question... I have an r33 gtst (engine out currently) hks 3037s top mount & many other mods including a genuine greddy plenum. My question is how do I go about gaining the midrange loss back from the plenum? A few posts in various forums said a spacer between the plenum & the head. So this leads me to my questions below 1. How thick should the spacer be? 2. Did it cause any fittment issues? 3. Can you use the same bolts to fit the plenum back on or longer ones to suit? 4. to people who have done this was it really noticeable dyno/road feel? I'm not here to get plenum choice advice or what somoneones opinion on my setup is or why plazmaman this & greddy that...... just trying to find info on the greddy spacer idea & if it works well.... To anyone who has done this please shed some light on this topic, tell us what car/engine u have & how thick the spacer is + what were your gains.... Thanks in advance Ps hope everyone had a merry Christmas & have a happy & safe new year!
