  1. Pity about the huge penis on the wall Cool shot otherwise
  2. EPIC!!! Thats awesome man. What did you shoot that with and did you use some kind of external power source? Love the stops for quick photoshoots. Have you posted up any of those shots? Top stuff!
  3. ^agreed, awesome shots! that is what i did for the shot i posted, single LED headlight thing over 15 seconds. it was adding the highlights with colored LEDs where things went pear shaped. I kept forgetting which parts where which color and generally just screwing things up, lol. The most successful ones I have done were the ones with a less complex fill / fading to contend with. That said tho, keen to give it another go at some stage when im over that side of town.
  4. ^not wrong, specially considering its ISO 800. had no idea the d40x was so good at lower light stuff. but then again, it IS a nikon *que canon fanboys* love the lizard shot Ben, awesome looking pets! mattboy kills it yet again. the red behind the car in the front on shot tho, was that gelled flash? love how the LED brings out the anodized metal in the wheel nuts and makes them really pop. no new photos from me, suffering from being a mental case who can barely leave the house at the moment. but i did take this the other night. (well, 3 in the morning ) was going to due a full light painting on it, but realised it was wayyyy too technical, lol would love to try again at some stage. pity its so far from home tho
  5. i think the higher the fstop the more flaring you get from light points? not 100% on that tho EDIT: did some research... http://blog.starcircleacademy.com/2011/04/starbursts/ "To make spikes more prominent increase the f/stop to f/11 or higher"
  6. i dont see why not, and i do have a tube of them in my drawer. just means working out how to attach them. the LED's were a bit easier using split rings, might have to tie or sticky tape them on
  7. cheers guys. might be a little while tho, cause a couple of the lights broke and i cant afford to replace them yet. start my new job on sunday night tho so hopefully i can work out a way to save a couple of bucks from that
  8. mix kite flying with light painting. yer ok, lol.
  9. ah, i know why i miss understood you. to skip the kite would be the opposite of what i want to achieve. i just want to have fun and fly a kite and try and fluke a decent shot in every now and then. there may be views that would require a helicopter, but i care not for them as the whole idea of attaching the gopro to the kite is just to see what you get, like a lucky dip camera type thing. i would have no use for a helicopter, lol.
  10. ah i get you. i dont wish for things as i know i dont have the means so there seems no point, lol
  11. cheers. once you know the trick (pivot around the nodal point as much as you can) it gets a bit easier. not sure if it makes a huge difference or not, but ive been taking them in portrait instead of regular lanscape. gives more room to crop from. love your shot! where is that? thing i have found that makes beach shots hard is the waves. yours worked out awesome tho as there are no waves that just suddenly vanish. something else i find hard is working out framing for a huge pano. i think this needs to be quoted so its on this page too. awesome man, love it! took the kite out again. really need to work out a low cost/tech answer to the stability issues. turned the camera around this time. something you get used to seeing a bit lift off! cruisin would love to take it over water, but i dont have a waterproof case for the gopro so not real keen on risking it. my flying is getting a bit better too, was practicing walking the kite around and dodging obstacles. wish i had a second gopro to film the flying of the kite. saw some awesome shots but had my hands full with the kite strings, lol.
  12. So they are giving away RC choppers these days? And why would I need a pro setup?
  13. maybe, lol. i took a pano today at a lake that would look awesome in kite pics, but i would have to be on the other side of it due to the wind direction. not even sure how to get around the other side, lol.
  14. QFT word!
  15. will have to see what is around. things i forgot you have to take into consideration are both the position of the sun and also the direction of the wind. makes planning shots a bit more of a challenge
  16. nice start Sidd, but i have to ask... what is a mandup? i take it that it has something to do with weddings, lol. awesome shot, love your interior shots. lighting is always awesome. went for a ride along my local bike track today and went a bit further then i had before and found this spot... (click click) home made pano head failed tho so no 360 view yet again, lol. would love to try and get some kite shots here at some stage.
  17. yeah just had it on picture every 2 seconds. the cam was heaps unstable and swung around quite a bit, but with the law of averages and all out of 400 odd shots there were a handfull that actually worked out, lol. as for hot air balloon, gps and all... way too expensive. broke the bank buying a spare SD card at only $8 to take the kite pics, haha. would be fun, but yeah i have to work with what i have. gonna try and get this set up a bit more stable. learnt a few things while watching it in action and have a couple of ideas to try to get a better 'keeper' rate than the current methods. oh and some crazier locations in future. like, off the side of cliffs, ends of jetties etc. if you have any ideas of cool places to take kite pics im all ears
  18. ^is an awesome shot! i love moody shots. so, what do you get when you cross a $15 kite, some crappy string, a gopro and an idiot? ghetto aerial photography, thats what haha, yes, I do have way too much time on my hands.
  19. didnt quite work out. i reckon the horizon is too wonky as it doesnt meet up after applying polar coordinates (was a fair way off) and i dont have the skills to shop it into shape, lol.
  20. woah Sidd, nice moody one! like! only problem is the lack of water under the rocks i was standing on to take the pic. might give it a try, but for it to work properly i reckon i'd need to be on a boat a few meters out? also never tried a 'little planet' shot with a pano and not sure that it will work on that kind of format. guess i'll find out tho. as for computing work... if i had time to do the night job as well as some side work and still have time to spend with the family and kids it would be a possibility, but im not sure how well it would work out in reality. im still trying to get used to the idea that i have to sleep through the day and not sure if i will even get to see the kids due to my start/finish times. but thats the challenge of modern life tho, lol.
  21. cheers man. just waiting on a call now about a job cleaning exhaust fans in hungry jacks / kfc stores. its a night shift job from 10pm till 4am, which suits me perfectly being insomniac most nights, lol. also pretty stoked that its a job where i wont have to deal with many people. just need to work on balancing sleeping and spending time with the kids and missus
  22. love the clear bonnet shot matboy. and the blue/green highlights as mentioned by someone else also. sooooo, went to take a proper 360x180 pano today. got the stand and home made head out the car, about to attach the camera to set up the nodal point and bam, forgot to bring the bolt, ffffuuuuuu. shot this handheld so it wasnt a total waste of a trip. (click for larger version)
  23. heres a larger version (1200px high) without a watermark http://photos.jay019.com/panoramas/20111013-182132_1200.JPG
  24. Haha, my light painting kit just got an upgrade with some nice jaycar goodness. Now to find the time to use it, lol. Gave the pano head a trial run today. Not sure if i found the nodal point properly, but wherever I moved it seemed to be working fine  (not that it matters, nothing is very straight with my setup, haha) anyway, shot this today. spewing I didnt get a full 180 degree view in tho, had a play with some 360 deg pano viewers and this would have looked awesome if it wasnt missing a bit of sky and sand, lol link to larger version (600px max height) will try and get some sort of pano viewer set up on my site soon (oh, and panos that involve things like water are a pain in the ass )
  25. cheers Sidd. looks great from a distance, but up close I can see a few places where it didnt stitch together so well. but... made myself a cheap and nasty pano head. probably not quit as good as a purpose built head, but should be better than handheld. will try it out today and post up the results.
