Banning Performance Cars From P Platers = More Deaths
Lachlan33 replied to scathing's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Scathing has a point. Having hektic drift skills are only half the story. On a public road you need awareness and common sense. No matter how skilled a driver you are, you can't defy the laws of physics if some one pulls out infront of you and you were going 180km/h. I am all for driver training and promoting good road manners. I do have a problem with the way the RTA goes about it. Despite what they believe there are some P platers running around in modified cars who ARE NOT reckless hoons. Unfortunetly it doesn't take much to get a licence. It takes a hell of alot more to be worthy of it. -
Banning Performance Cars From P Platers = More Deaths
Lachlan33 replied to scathing's topic in General Automotive Discussion
It seems to me that if the RTA and police actually wanted to stop 'speeding hoon P platers' they would focus on changes that make a difference. Look at many european countries, their accident rates are far lower yet countries like germany have roads people can legally do 200+ km/h on. Why is that? Its all in the driver training. They have to be able to identify and explain what understeer and oversteer are, they have several years of learning. Here we have a 17 year old in a pos VL who has been driving for 12 months around the local streets with his mum. Instead the police are focusing on the 'cracking down' on high performance and modified cars. Sure it looks to the general community like something is being done, but its really just a big money grab. Can some one explain to me how a fine for a POD filter helps keep the roads safe? Exposed in the engine bay? Who gives a F**K!. And some cops give you that 'oh it could catch fire' bullcrap. Don't let them ever tell you that. Why? The point at which oil on the filters will spontaniously combust is higher than the melting point of plastic. In other words, your stock airbox would have melted into a molten blob before your oiled Pod filter would catch fire. But good luck trying to explain that. I am just gratefull I got my licence a few months before that stupid turbo restriction came into play. And another thing, that P plater curfew, my GOD thats a terrible idea. It TOTALLY undermines the designated driver scheme, something that young people are actually better at sticking to the joe blo 35 year old mr 'I know how to drive safely' Ask yourself, what is safer: 5 18 year olds. 1 is DD and they all pile into a car and drive home OR, what with the new passenger restrictions, they pile into 2 or 3 cars and take the same route home. First red light and you can be assured they will race. Somehow MORE cars driven by P platers is a sollution to the problem? I think not. Seems more like an increase in fine-ability by the cops to me. /rant -
I HATE theives and people who damage other peoples cars. Its SO wrong. Couple months ago someone tried to do the same thing to me, I came out in the morning to find the driver door handle a bit damaged and a dent around the lock, overall though I came off far better than you did by the looks of it. Thats terrible man. I hope you catch who did it and cut his goddam balls off. And then Kill him.

I have an Atmo BOV currently, and had the stalling issue. A Safc Didn't help at all. Last night I moved up to a Power FC. Its totally untuned yet but it has fixed the issue of stalling amoungst other things. Not a cheap sollution sure but.... eh

I guess next step is Z32 AFM, bigger injectors and a new turbo

Justjap sells them I think

Ok just got back from a quick drive with the PFC. And holy crap, even without a tune I love it already. 1: Car no longer pops and bangs every gear change or throttle lift (not that I really minded that ) 2: With an Atmo BOV I used to watch the revs dip very low and have to catch it or risk stalling (made stopping at lights a PITA). Using the PFC I set the idle to 800rpm and this problem now does not exist. It hunts a little but never dips below the 800. 3: I have my full throttle back! Its been quite awhile since I have gone WOT in the car because it would just start to miss, pop and bang and my acceleration would go out the window. This is now 95% fixed, the car pulls hard again. I heard the odd pop here and there a couple times but its chalk and cheese to what it was before 4: The car overall feels more like a proper working car again and not some backyard tuner deluex with dozens of minior issues I had gotten used to. PFC FTW!

Ok I got the Power FC this afternoon and was determined to get it all working myself. Put it in, attached Loom. Car dies within 1 second of starting. Yes I cleared the previous data and also set the boost control option to off. It seems to be saving data fine, the car just won't start properly. Starts, gets to maybe 800rpm then dies. Giving it some throttle makes no difference. Any help is much welcome EDIT: Ok is running now, I had a Safc before which I had disconnected, plugged it back in but set it to not do anything, PFC is now idiling the car. Must be some wiring issue.

Haha yep, I have to make SURE i have plenty of space when overtaking to allow for a few periods of poor acceleration. I have suspected my coils for some time but never actually inspected them, I might pull them this arvo and do a visual inspection, see if there are obvious signs. I would happily buy some splitfires but they aren't exactly cheap.

I have the justjap IC kit on my car, I think from memory it needed a nipple installed in order to run a line to the wastegate actuator.
-
I have yes, it is very usefull and I will be using it as a reference while doing the swap. It does breifly mention that the base map provides more torque etc etc but also reccomends a tune (obviously) I just want to make sure that until I get said tune, I am not risking my engine by driving to work for a few weeks.
-
Hey Guys, I have bought myself a power FC, hopefully getting here this afternoon or tomorrow. It is my understanding that the base map on it will be safe to run the car with for awhile before getting a tune yes? I have stock injectors and AFM, stock turbo running around 11psi. I can just replace the stock ecu and drive the car like normal? How safe is the stock PFC map? And in theory could I drive the car every day for say a month or two without having to worry about getting a tune, or should I wait until I can get a tune done at the same time? On an unrelated note, when booting it in my car, usually in 2nd and 3rd gear, full throttle results in lots of popping and sluggish acceleration, but say 80% throttle it pulls hard. I am thinking either lower gapped plugs might fix this or perhaps my coils are stuffed. Thoughts?

I grow weary of the stalling issues associated with an Atmo BOV. If anyone has a stock plumb back lying around I will glady take it off your hands, just name your price.

Mate that sucks, fined for a dirty numberplate translates to "Im a jerk so heres a BS fine" My only fine so far has been BS as well. I left my car runing outside a shop while i went inside to get milk. I was inside for 2 minutes, probably no less than 5-10 meters away from the car. $78 and 20 minutes of my time. I have no problem with fines for speeding, drink driving and other reckless behaviour. But fines for a pod filter here, a BOV there, loud exhaust etc, I find to be nothing short of harassment. Especially given the amount of sh!tbox cars out there with bald tyres, stuffed shocks/brakes etc driven by clueless grannies. It also gives me the Sh!ts that the cops enforcing the 'law' half the time have no clue wtf they are on about.

I can't see it beating the 599 GTB. Ahead of the Z06 is all I ask of it

300rwhp? The mods you have are exactly what I am saving for (GT-RS, 550cc inj, PFC, coils etc) I hope to make a fair bit more than 300hp though. More like 250rwkw-260rwkw Which is more like 350 hp. I say crank up the boost and retune!

Is My Shock Stuffed?
Lachlan33 replied to Lachlan33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Theres no where around me at the moment where I can get that done, Im up the coast at the moment and am this afternoon doing a 5 1/2 hour drive home. If its just the shock im not too concerned but I would hope the wheel isn't going to like....fall off mid drive -
Hey guys, in the last few days I have noticed a clunking noise coming from my rear left. Im not 100% but it sounds like its coming from around the wheel area so Im wondering if perhaps the shock absorber is dieing? Can't say that ive noticed any loss in handling feel but thats not saying much. Its whenever I go over any bumps I can hear it and It seems to be getting worse each day. What are the symptons of a stuffed wheel bearing? I tried searching for symptons of a worn shock and the few topics I read seem to have me thinking thats the problem. Oh well if its that then its a good excuse to finally get SK's suspension package. Better get saving.

X-force Exhaust 3" Cat Or 3.5" Cat
Lachlan33 replied to WET-25T's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I have the full 3" xforce system on my 33. Its satasfyingly loud without being offensive. Ive had a cop ask me to rev my car while he stood behind it and didn't get a defect. Doesn't mean its not over I know but it helps. Anyway the 3" system is fairly well price, and yes I would think the 3.5" cat with it, even if it did fit fine, would be kind of.....pointless. -
Wow, you know the first thing I thought when I saw that car was that it reminded me of yours. Nice work Incidently, did you notice the cops? Did they pull you over at all?

This is the thing I hate about American and Australian cars. Big displacement, for such little horsepower. The best example I can think of is the Viper. Isnt that like an 8.3L V10? Not sure of the exact figures but its something like 500hp. Sure 500hp is hardly small, but from an 8.3L engine I would have expected........more. Ferrari F430 for example, 4.3L V8, and puts out like 480hp. The europeans and japs actually use displacement wisely. Aussie and American car makers seem to have the attitude of 'we need more power? Bore it out another 5 Litres!" This is of course ignoring the fact that American cars can't corner and that they have no idea what makes an interior nice. But having said all that I can apreciate some muscle cars. Shelby Mustang, Ford GT etc

I saw that to. Once again the cops are demonstrating a complete lack of respect. These people went to a legal event. Having cops sitting outside the gates may catch a bunch of modified cars and such, but its going to deter many people from going there in the future, so they will just do it on the streets. Seems to be like they just wanted to be seen doing something good. One important thing to note in that story is the sentance 'police outside working with undercover officers inside' Excuse me? They had undercover police officers INSIDE the venue? The story was about them getting speeders as they left right? So what purpose would having the cops INSIDE do? Sounds to me like they were checking out who was running POD filters and big intercoolers and taking down their plates for defect reasons. This just seems like such a dog act that is going to acheive NOTHING for relationships between 'hoons' and cops. And the whole 'braking so hard the rear tyres exploded' thing demonstrates exactly why the media is so good at talking up such crap. ALL of us know that the tyres didn't explode. But your average joe is NOT going to know this, and will think 'wow he must have been going fast, what a hoon". This sort of crap always gets me SO fired up. I always used to defend the cops but these days I am just so pissed at their actions. Ive never been fined for anything I will add, but I still feel bad for people who cop fines for POD's and all that crap. I just love how all the 'illegal mods' are just illegal because....well just to make them money. Exposed pod will do what exactly? That crap about oiled pods catching fire is just plain poor science. No pod has ever caught fire....ever. The flashpoint of oil is over 200 degrees C. If your engine bay has that much heat in it, your going to be having far more problems then a burning pod. The stock airbox would have long since melted into a blob.

Thanks for that guys. I do plan to go back to the stock BOV, im trying to source one. I never wanted the atmo one, you get over the psssh pretty damn quick. The spark plugs making the issue worse might help to explain why the car didn't do it as bad when I first got it. With any luck the stock BOV, some new sparkies and a new clutch should have my car running sweet again. I haven't changed or even looked at the spark plugs since I bought the car over a year ago so it could be an issue

My car has some aftermarket (no idea what brand) atmo venting, problem causing blow off. Apart from the usual stall issues one gets with such a thing (massive pain in the ass) I have recently had a SAFC installed along with upped boost. And pretty much from day 1 of the upgrade ive been getting weird ass issues. Like sometimes it seems as if the BOV almost gets stuck open, if im just driving around on partial throttle I will notice a massive cut in power yet the pod sounds like its sucking in alot of air (or the bov is venting alot), a quick prod of the throttle sees the noise dissapear and my power instantly return. The other issues is when under full throttle, my mid range is often interupted by a massive lack of power and a rapid popping noise form the exhaust, then when higher revs are reached the popping stops and its back on full power. My thoughts were that the BOV isn't holding the boost for whatever reason, and the popping was fuel being dumped unburnt into the zorst than igniting, kind of like when you lift off and get a pop with an atmo BOV. Oh and my clutch slips horribly in 4th and 5th gear under 80%+ throttle but thats to be expected with stock clutch and over 200rwkw (or so im told) Anyway do people agree with my conclusion that the BOV is not handling the boost? Id turn down the boost but its been tuned to 11psi and its one of those 'wind it and test' bleed valve type controllers that I would prefer to leave alone.

Hi there, My car came with some aftermarket atmo BOV which is giving me the shits. Its not only causing stalling issues but I suspect its not even handling the higher boost. So I want to kill 2 birds with 1 stone and go back to the stock plumb back BOV. Anyone got one?
