Its true. I bought my car with an aftermarket atmo BOV (the sort that goes Psssshhh) Sure as my first turbo car it put a grin on my face but trust me, I wish I had the stock re-circ BOV handy. Doesn't look all that cool when you pull upto a set of lights and promptly stall. Also causes overfueling when changing gears (loud pops) The stalling was annoying me so much I went down and bought a piece of rubber hose and some cable ties and did a home DIY job of MAKING my bov plumb back. It kinda worked, doesn't stall nearly as much now but it still has issues, the rubber hose doesn't make the best seal around the BOV vent hole so its still venting about half of it. Its a pain in the ass I tells ya. And having driven my car for a year or so now with the atmo BOV, you get sick of it pretty quickly. Do I prefer the psssh noise? I guess, it does turn heads. Is it worth the stalling issues? No way. Not having ever used the stock BOV (that vents back in) I wouldn't know for sure but I would assume it would make some noise anyway would it not?

Hmm so after some pondering ive decided to go for a S-AFC II, FMIC and fuel pump. And then in the near future hopefully a slide high flow. From what ive read in old topics the SAFC can't really support bigger injectors, but would support a high flow yeah? Still undecided on what pump to get, Walbro is deliciously cheap but people seem to have had issues with it. Was also going to get a Bosch 040 but aparently its crap and noisy
-
Yeah suspension stuff comes later
-
Yeah Injectors, afm, clutch etc are not something I can afford at the mo. I was steering clear of a piggy back ecu mainly because everyone here seems to reccomend the PFC
-
Alrighty then. I see the PowerFC at nengun for $800 odd, cheapest ive seen so far really. Was looking at a Bosch 040 pump but have been reading about some problems with it, so was looking at the Tomei or Nismo pump. What is a fuel pressor regulator and how important is it?

So you would definetly sugest the ECU before the turbo?
-
So heres the deal, I have a spare $2k (due to friend paying me back) and I am not sure what to spend it on. I figure I may as well spend it on the car given that I can't think of anything else I want right now. Current mods are: 3" Turboback Exhaust Pod Turbotech boost controller Thats it. An FMIC is pretty much a given, either the Sliding Performance FMIC kit or the JustJap one (haven't decided yet) After that im not too sure. I was thinking Fuel Pump and Slide High Flow but then I would be on the stock ECU which can't be all that good. So I thought maybe drop the turbo and get a PFC, but then am I really going to see much gains from a PFC given the stock turbo? And whats this I hear about PFC's being hard to come by these days? So yeah....pretty unsure about what path to go down. EVENTUALLY Ill want to get FMIC, High Flow, ECU, Fuel Pump, Injectors etc but I can't afford all those things for now. So yeah, sugest a mod list priced at $2k or under (including labour) Thanks for the help

Fitting The Turbotech Boost Controller
Lachlan33 replied to Lachlan33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Okay I fitted the controller this arvo, few things: Ive got the bolt wound out as far as it can go without falling out, yet even with like half throttle the stock guage goes PAST +7 (which is FAR more boost than I want) Ive tripple checked that ive got it round the right way (it is) I took it out again and played around by blowing through the end and winding the bolt to see if it was making a difference and it is. With the ball bearing and spring removed it runs stock boost no worries, spring and ball in = massive boost. Couple questions: 1: Does it matter what way round the spring goes? like Flat end against bearing or curvy end? 2: For those who fit it, did you notice a very audible change in the noise your turbo made? Mine sounded quite different and I reached +7 so im wondering if the wastegate is opening at all or im just making infinite boost I havent dont a full plant and held it on boost, because it goes so high I get scared and back off for fear of destroying the turbo. Any sugestions? -

Thanks dude, just wanted to make sure before I went hacking things up -
Fitting The Turbotech Boost Controller
Lachlan33 replied to Lachlan33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Ok. The red one (with the screw) im pretty sure USED to goto the boost solenoid which is gone. (Previous owner removed it) If the green one runs from the IC pipe to the actuator, I simply cut it in half and fit the turbotech inbetween so its rejoined. Yes? Just gotta follow your diagram and make sure I attach the right ends to the turbotech. Got it. If im understanding you correctly. -
Fitting The Turbotech Boost Controller
Lachlan33 replied to Lachlan33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
sorry dude but I didn't understand any of that haha. I guess its more complicated than I assumed I dunno, if someone would care to draw a diagram or something might help explain it better. EDIT: Just saw your diagram. Okay so the green line in my pic is the one from the intercooler pipe and the red one with the screw in it, i remove the screw and attach it the other bit on the turbotech? -
Fitting The Turbotech Boost Controller
Lachlan33 replied to Lachlan33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Anyone? Id hate to cut the wrong line and have something go wrong.... -
I read through quite abit of the '$22 boost controller' topic, anyway I went ahead and bought one off ebay. Unfortunetly alot of the pics in that topic no longer work due to its age, and the few that do work mostly show the stock boost solenoid (which I don't have as the previous owner I think had a bleed valve but later removed it) Anyway I just want to confirm how it connects. I took a pic of the lines where my solenoid USED to be. I have one line that leads no where and has a screw in the end (highlighted red). From reading, it used to be connected to the solenoid yes? And is no longer needed? Do I cut the line I highlighted green and fit one end each to the 2 joins of the turbotech? Or am I an idiot and have the wrong line completely?

Ive done a search and read a few topics on this, and pretty much everyone it seems has had to trim or cut their front Reinforcement bar. This is something I want to avoid due to insurance and mainly safety reasons. Im not driving a Volvo sure but I don't really like the idea of actively cutting up whatever front protection there is. I plan to just go with a standard JustJap kit, don't really have the cash for anything fancy. I plan to get a workshop to fit it. So is there ANYONE out there that has managed to fit an FMIC without cutting the reo? My front bumper is stock if that helps (or hinders). As I said I searched for this but could only assume from the other topics about it that either no one bothers to work around it and just cuts the reo anyway, or its impossible to NOT cut it. If it is 'trimmed' exactly how much is removed and how much is that going to affect its strengh in a collision?

Missing Factory Boost Solonoid = What Exactly?
Lachlan33 replied to Lachlan33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Im not stressing really, just trying to get a sense of what the previous owner has done to the car. Suposedly it was stock except for a BOV and POD, but now I find the solonoid missing, which suggests upped boost etc and it just makes me wonder what else was done. -
Missing Factory Boost Solonoid = What Exactly?
Lachlan33 replied to Lachlan33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Ok the hose coming off the actuator just goes straight to a fat pipe, which I believe goes down past the Pod to the Intercooler? Gah. I just dont get how if I dont have said solonoid, why I still have the dual stage boost thing. Theres also a thiner hose (not off the actuator though) with a screw through it. As said before by someone, it would seem a boost controller was used by the previous owner. Maybe its still there? I don't really know what im looking for but im pretty sure its not -
Missing Factory Boost Solonoid = What Exactly?
Lachlan33 replied to Lachlan33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Ok now this is really bugging me. Was out driving this morning, and I confirmed that I definetly DO have the dual stage boost thing. Below 4,500RPM the stock guage would get to exactly halfway between 0 and +7, but above 4500rpm it would go up a bit. Yet I can't find the bloody solonoid anywhere. Any 33 owners who know what they are looking at live in the Blue Mountains? I need someone to have a look at my car and tell me exactly what im dealing with. -
Missing Factory Boost Solonoid = What Exactly?
Lachlan33 replied to Lachlan33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I was wondeirng that. Stock solenoid gone without anything in its place would mean 5 psi only yeah? Innnnteresting. Actually thats kind of good...means if I goto 10psi Ill get quite a shock. Time to shop for a boost controller. -
Missing Factory Boost Solonoid = What Exactly?
Lachlan33 replied to Lachlan33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yes, it would be near my pod on the passenger side yeah? Cause mines just plain not there. -
I have looked EVERYWHERE for my boost solonoid hopeing to earth the black wire to disable to 2 stage control thingy. Anyway I can't find it. As far as Im aware its suposed to be just near the air intake, and have a hose or 2 connected to it as well as some wires. Looked at pics and everything and yeah....either im stupid or it isnt there. What I did find today is around where its suposed to be is a hose that leads into some pipe which is blocked with a screw. This means what exactly? Im assuming the previous owner has fiddled with the boost level. (As far as im aware the car runs stock boost). I can't find the black/white wires either, theres just a mass of wires that run past my turbo. If there is a bleed valve or EBC installed im at a loss to find that as well. Anyone have any ideas on what could have been done? I wouldnt mind seeing some pics of what other peoples setups are if your boost solonoid is missing. The only reason it would be gone is because the previous owner has raised boost yeah?

Whats in the kit exactly? Just special washing detergant and oil?
-
Hey guys, Ive got a few days free as of tomorrow and thought I would clean up my engine bay. My POD filter is absolutely filthy, its now a sort of....well brown. Its a K&N Pod, and I did a search, some people seem to have had issues with some filters and water? (Like...the filter would fall apart) I know the K&N Panels have a cleaning kit but is this needed for the pods? If I just removed it and left it for a few hours in a bucket of soapy water then left it to dry over night? Or do they need an oily coating? Ta

Ok well I found a garage that will do it today (It was the power steering belt) Air con and Alternator belts getting done as well so all good.
-
ok well yes I know it needs replacing, im just wondering what exactly it is givent hat I might not be able to get it replaced by tomorrow night. My worry is that IF it breaks during the drive im going to be stuck on the side of the road.
