yea...got some advice today from painter. gave some instructions but coming down in the week to double check. Anyone had their cars resprayed? I'm thinking about engine bay too...since the engine is going to come out. Is there too much shit to remove and mask up for engine bay spray?

Besides the spray painter is going to fix up anything i dind't complete...haha or f arked up... if u ask me why i do it? coz it saves a shit load of cash. plus i kno couple if my freinds had their car resprayed....not the perfect bare metal prep. just rub down, clean, prim n spary over. and...the result is pretti good. If anything fu cks up..like totally stuffed up uneven sanding. then out comes the paint stripper. lol. I've got three months times to do anyways (licence). so time not realli worried about and wounld'nt mind doing it, just that it;ll take 5 times as long maybe more..... but thanks for the tips tho B1... and when u told me to ask the painter for tips....well thats why i started this thread..Lol.... for tips, ideas and methods but yea thanks anyways.

Craved, are u sanding down a R33? have u got alll the windows off? if so, and dindnt do u'rself..how much it cost? someone quoted me $85 all four. haven't called anyone else, but it seems good enough isn;t it to take out the windows for $85/? I didn't use water, man the paper just died on me almost immediatly and scrathed, but luckily didn't do much yet so could be fixed with water now and fine paper later. So what is this scoth brites thingie u'r talking about? And sand paper grades, is it higher the number the finer? Thats what i thought, when u said 600-800, i'm thinking this is realli fine paper, man...no hope at all. Took me a whole afternoon just tocut thru the clear coat and arm was dead. So going with coarse stuff + water then going for the wet/dry fine paper laterz. Good idea or ?

M5 is a good place too. But then if u get caught on m5, u'll get another 2 points for no P plates & 74 bucks.

Black32, When u said this, do u mean sanding it all the way till bare metal or doesn't reali matter if u have finer paper. Also does anyone kno which type to use? I used the wet/dry type for a while but it didn't last long. So i used this Yellow, ultra-fine 3M something like 255 or something. And it doens't die off at all. I think its meant to be for wood, but like, all the powder just falls off. Sand paper still like new. God or Bad?

Coz he said if i sand it down n mask it up for him. it'll only be $300-$500(depending on how shit a job i do in preparing it) can't argue with that price can you. That includes, A full Kit, Doors, boot, bonnet and mirror off.

thanks dudez, I'm spraying it in the Evo VI white. Not sure if its just the same as the normal lancer white. Not the pearl version though. Well he gave me an alright price. All the work for $2k, but u kno, spent so much already so i told him i'll prepare it for him myself. So....it'll look like shit if i sand it huh?

If u want to respray a car a different color, how far do you have to sand down the existing paint? Some people have told me just sand it till the clear coat and pearl is gone. Some ppl have said sand till the paint isn't shiny Any then some spray guy, who i think is just trying to make more money, says u need to sand all the way down so u can primer bear metal. What is true or what is shit? Any done a repsray be4?
