  1. Hey Guys, am looking for some help kind people I really need to speak with someone who works for an insurance company (shannons if possible) as I really need some advice. Its quite a complex issue ( please just trust me when I say I can't call them direct at this point and would prefer to talk with someone on the side...make sense?). Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers Will
  2. I have had only negative experiences from nissan dealerships. It's not because they couldn't get the information/parts it was because they didn't want to. I found with a bit of pushing and persistance they did there job but I've always left thinking "did it really have to be that hard?". What I found was there's a good amount of people who are right into the import scene so information is usually available with ease. My mechanic is fantastic and he only works on imports, wouldn't take my car anywhere else!
  3. Looks like a tight ride man, they really are a great shape and one that has to be seen in the flesh to be appreciated. The reason I'm going through all this shit is because I love the gt-8 and want help out other owners. Hopefully one day all the issues will be ironed out and they are able to be easily repaired and worked on. But until that day people should understand the complications that come with owning one of these cars.
  4. http://www.gtrnissan.com/index.html has been updated fellas
  5. Nah mate it didn't cost me anything I just found it by share chance. I'll send you a link to it later tonight, helped shed some light on alot of things. Yeah all the usual scanners are useless. As I said this bloke in NZ claims he can scan it with his custom scanner but I can't verify that. However, I Have had the car successfully scanned by someone and am trying to find out what scanner he used.
  6. Hey man cheers, I been here lurking in the shadows with envy haha It has indeed been a tough road but I think there on top of it (hopefully should know this week). I also love the gearbox and hope the solution unearths a bit more info in how to repair it. The main problem I've found is that an elite few know the info but have been very hesitant to give it to me. The other problem has been cocky transmission places that go in gun ho saying they they have cvt experience. It's always the same response "none of our scanners work, we've called everyone we know around the world and no one knows anything" Oh... one thing I did find out that may be of interest is there is 2 types, both very similair but not interchangable. Other thing is this traction fluid that they use is ONLY produced by nissan and costs a bomb!( 800 to fill the tranny). I have been to the end of the earth and back and no other oil compnay produces it. Have you got the cvt pdf from the nissan japan site that explains it all? I'll keep you updated bro (sorry to jack the thread) P.S - I'm lucky though, I imported a legnum just before it happened so I got that to cruise around in.
  7. Oh for sure there is definately cvt specialists and I think at sometime or another I've probably had dealings with most of them. The problem is the cvt found in the gt-8 is radically different. Nissan do not sell parts for it nor do they provide a workshop manual on rebuilding one of these beasts (I've seen the all the workshop manuals for the v35 series and the section on the tranny itself is very basic) . Also your thinkinf of a 300gt which is a 4 door
  8. Let's put it this way my gt-8 has been at the shop since may (see my old post about my tranny issue). Countless hours spent trying to track down the problem, numerous different specialists and a whole heap of headaches laterI still don't have my car back. If your transmission has any sort of problems get ready for the headache of a lifetime. Nissan doesn't want to know you, transmission specialists are clueless and there is simply no paperwork around (except in Japanese). The transmission also uses a special oil called traction fluid and will set you back 800 to fill. If you put normal oil in it will f**k the rollers so be very very careful. Also, the cost of a new one installed is about 15k. There's a bloke in NZ who specialises in this paticular model cvt and he's about as helpful as a brick on your balls. Non of the common scanners work on them except this guys and he will not give it out. Some people will try and tell you that they are similair to the murano/maxima but they are not, totally different. In saying all that they are a great car...haha... I'm hoping that the findings from mine helps open up a way to repair them so other owners don't have the same issues in repairing them. Things are starting to look up with some recent news and once the problems fixed I'll be sure to let yall know...
  9. Well guys I'm in the process of purchasing a v35 workshop manual from japan which I will have translated to english over here. My wallet is trembling but I feel it needs to be done. Frank, the rotors that ended up fitting my 35 were aftermarket 2003 350z rotors (non anniversary addition). I use genuine nissan pads which have been great. My mechanic has all the part numbers, will grab them on the weekend.
  10. Hey andy, always good to meet another 35 owner. I've done alot of research into the dvd sat/ nav myself and always come up dry. The best thing I've found is the following convertor which is required if you wish to use the screen for anything. nav convertor Also guys, could anyone who's interested in a v35 specific section of the forum chuck there two cents in here v35 specific forum post would be a good place to share info and v35 specific resources
  11. I understand where you are coming from and if I didn't own a v35 I would probably be of the same opinion. What you really need to take into consideration is the difficulty alot of the owners of the 35s are having with gathering information. For example I recently had to replace my front rotors and due to the lack of available info (and difficulties faced dealing with nissan Australia) it came down to a bit of a guessing game. Now if I had somewhere to go and find this info the whole process would have been that much easier (so I could get back to enjoying my car rather than wondering if I'm shelling out cash for a part that may not fit). There is a wealth of info/parts available for previous models so a specific forum for each model would be pointless. But unfortunatley, and I wish it wasn't the case, that is just not a reality for the v35 at this point (especially the gt-8). We are not asking for a forum/sub forum so we can isolate ourselves from the skyline community, in fact the reason why we want it here is because we wish to stay a part of the community (rather than starting up our own forum on another site). Please do not think this will be a place for v35s owners to sit around and go "aren't we cool with our lack of round tail lights", that is not the point of this proposed forum. I would also like to say that much of the info gathered on the v35 will also apply to the v36, at this point I would imagine future models also. So as I sit here calling the transmission place everyday, only to find out that non of his contacts in Australia, europe or America know anything about my transmission, I think to myself "such is the price of owning one of these cars". I accept that and am happy to pay that price, but I tell you what, if the info I needed was easily available it would save me alot of time and money!!!
  12. pretty pretty please. I wanted to do a write up on all the info I've found out since owning the car, things I found out simply through trial and error. There is very little to no info on v35s (in english), so a specific area where info could be found for new/ current owners would be extremely handy. Like right now for example, I've got my car sitting in the transmission place because nowhere in the world (besides japan) has the appropriate info on my car. I would def be prepared to dig in and give a hand if required
  13. Hey guys thanks for the responses I've had the abs and asll the brakeing system checked with no luck. I thought it may have something to do with that initial break noise but the manual that came with the car said it is perfectly normal to hear. The engine does rev out in neutral it's only when the car is in drive or reverse. I've tried switching off the vdc with no luck there either, doesn't seem to make any difference. Where's broadway, is that in sydney mate?, I'm in queensland. There's not many back gt-8s around, I think if I ever passed one I would jump out of my seat (as would the other black gt-8 driver. They all seem to ber 2002 models, is yours 2002 or 2003? Nismo, I too was so damn sure it was fail safe also... everything seemed to point to it. So I took it down to nissan and got a consult scan after a bit of sweet talking. The scan revealed no fault codes but did reveal (what the mechanic believed) a fault code from the transmission that simply said "cvt function". That's why I'm thinking transmission but every other guess (like the breakes/fail safe have been wrong), though I guess its trial and error. So if I wanted to get it checked would I take it to a transmission place or an auto elec? Thanks for taking the time fellas!
  14. Hey what's up all, I got an issue with my 2003 350gt-8 and I'm hopeing someone maybe able to help me with it or point me in the right direction. So here it is... When I start my car (especially in the morning) it runs extremely sluggish (kinda feels like the breaks aren't releasing properly). I can put my foot to the floor and it won't jump past bout 2000rpm. I can feel the rear axle shaking as it struggles to take off but the car just crawls. Eventually after stoping and starting my car a rediculous amount of times it will come good. You can feel it return to normal performance (feels like something releasing and the car performs like normal). Now initially it only happened occasionally and would be fine after stopping and re-starting the car once, but now it takes 10 - 15 minutes of stoping and restarting before it finally cames back to life. I believe it went into fail safe mode for a while but a consult scan proved me wrong. Here's what I have done: Had the front rotors/pads replaced and the rear ones thouroughly chedcked. I went to nissan and talked them into a consult scan which revealed no engine error codes. They also scanned the transmission which revealed a code simply saying "cvt function". I wouldn't know where to start in tracking down what that means (for the record the gt-8 has a 8speed Toroidal CVT). Initially I suspected the breaks but after a bit of testing it doesn't seem to be. I was thinking it could be a faulty/caroded sensor in the transmission maybe, hmm I don't know. So I basically can't drive it until I get this problem fixed and so I'm stuck driving my girlfriends lemon jeep So if anyone has any ideas what so ever please let me know or if you know anyone that may be able to help I will be eternally greatful...I miss my machine... If you need anymore info just let me know! Thanks for taking the time people!
  15. v35s are awesome vehicles and to my knowledge there are 11 different models. Thanks to nissan fast many of the parts are easy to get hold of and are shared with other vehicles in the nissan range. The V35 is indeed in a different class and a great progression if you ask me (or any other v35 owner). Some of them can look very plain in stock form (in paticular the 250/300 4 doors) but with some bigger rims/ kit the car transforms. I was lucky enough to get the factory aero bodykit otherwise I was going for the wald kit (fantastic kit and now available in brisbane). Also, any parts that fit a g35 will fit a v35 (which can help when looking for some performance parts). But there are plenty of aftermarket performance parts available from japan...you just have to search (which is half the fun). My next purchase will be some tein coilovers for my gt-8. As for the TV...I've searched and searched and I keep getting told it can't be done. Though I recently heard about some local guy who has vision through the screen but I'm not sure if its the stock tv but I'll be checking it next week. You can get the screen to play a picture but you require a box from the states that converts the nav connection to rcas. I've got a dvd headunit and just went through this process
