  1. Cool, can you hurry up though I want to see what it puts out....hahahaha (just jokes) Mine is a long way off being bolted on and I'm just soooooooooo curious.
  2. Time for a long overdue update Its taken me a long time to get things happening as work has been taking up most of my time so Ive only really been working on the car late at night if Im in town or on weekends. While I have been waiting for all of the engine parts to turn up I thought I would start on the interior. In the first post I added some pics of my new Series 3 R33 GTR interior so I thought Ill get in it the car and then I wont have to worry about it later. The first step was of course stripping everything out and adding the sound proofing materials, this was a much bigger job than I anticipated as there are a LOT of little nooks and crannys in a skyline where noise can come through into the cabin and I wanted to do it right. Out came the stereo system as it was always whining and buzzing and I was over it, you can see from the pic below the wiring was just plain dodgy joining 12 guage wires into the factory speaker wiring and earthing to a bolt on the centre console……..made me laugh when I saw it. Then it was time to rip up the carpet und add the foam sound deadening, I used the 5mm thick stuff under the floor carpet as the 10mm stuff was a bit too thick and nothing would have went back into place properly. Then to the rear quarters and back seat area, the rear quarters were a pain in the....well......rear and are VERY sharp in spots. I managed to get a bunch of stitches in my middle finger for my trouble. Luckily the car is red so the blood stains wont show up as much…hehehehe We all know what stitches look like so I wont post a photo Then came the front doors, these were very fiddley to get right. I decided to use the proper sound deadening as well as the foam here after talking with a couple of the guys in the car sound section. Dynamat IMO is way too expensive so I went with the 3mm thick DNA audio stuff and it has worked a treat. To stop it falling off over time a lined the whole door with bonding gel and then stuck it to that (Hope I never have to take it off!!!) So once that was done I also added the 10mm thick foam as well, nothing will get through this door! Sounds like a BMW door now when you close it. I had a few pieces of the DNA stuff left over so I added it the inside part of the rear quarters and two pieces under the back seat (the bit under your bum) Then I did the rear parcel tray in the foam and the roof lining, the roof lining part surprised me on how easy it was and took me about half an hour all up. I didn’t manage to get any pics of the roof though I forgot and wasn’t going to take it off again. Next was the blue dash LED’s These things look awesome when done and the photo does not do them justice. 666DAN is a legend and I recommend his kit to anyone who is thinking about it. Now all the lights, clock, A/C etc etc are the some colour blue to match the Profec display and the Alpine headunit……….Yes I am that anal. Once all that was done I rewired the sound system and deleted the factory wiring altogether, cut out some speaker mounts and put it all back together. The new interior looks fantastic I reckon and the seats are sooooooo comfy compared to the GTST seats. The red stitching and little dots in the door cards compliment the outside colour really well and looks like it was made for my car. And of course I needed the approval of Daddys little helper She loves anything to do with cars (much to the wifes disgust) So I am hoping she may be the worlds first F1 driver Its a shame you will never see everything underneath all the panels and carpet because it really is a lot of work to fill in all the holes and block out the sound, Im sure those of you that have done it know what I mean. I took the car for a slow drive around the block today, more so just to run it cause it has not been started in months. There is definately an audible difference in cabin noise and the stereo sounds "deeper" if that makes sense so the work has paid off so far. Ran into a little problem though, becuase the car has been sitting around for so long i think the fuel has either gone stale or is contaminated in some way. After 5 mins of driving I developed a miss. Now this was really easy driving too did not even hit boost once just putted around for 5-10mins and then back home. Looks like a tank drain and clean out is on the cards now as well So there you have it, Stage 1 complete onto Stage 2 Next up is to redo the boot and to add the rest of the sound deadening foam in here, I am going to replace the carpet with 8mm MDF and marine carpet as the original stuff it worn and crappy so I will get that done this weekend and post more pics. More to come guys so keep watching ok, sorry its taken so long to update the thread The good bits on the engine are going on very soon after they get powder coated. Ill post up some pics of the parts over the next few days. D
  3. I have 700177-3 ... GT2835 56T with 84T turbine as well harey, 4" at turbo and 3" intake with black reducer. I think we have identical huffers but your dump is a little different by memory?? Im gonna run the 3" intake, my tuner (Unigroup) reckons its not a problem
  4. Good point Terry, Eric get something, even that you saw a doctor for your shoulder re a car accident on blah blah date. Different situation but I had an accident 10 years ago where I broke my neck, now I'm up for surgery to fix nerve damage and if it wasn't noted by the Doctor at the time I would now be screwed and have to pay for the operation myself. Future proof yourself mate you never know. Hopefully your shoulder will not go the way my neck has but you don't want that on you as well. And let's get this BBQ or whatever going execs!
  5. Thanks mate, I'll check if mine is 3 or 4" as well (can't remember)
  6. Harey can you post up or pm me the part number of your turbo? (on the little plaque on the side) I'm interested to see if we have the same pro s after your dump pipe thread. Ta D
  7. Eric this is just a woefull state of affairs, what ever happened to moral integrity eh? Glad your ok mate and kudos to everybody that helped out a fellow SAUer in need. This is why SAU is the best car club in Australia, the comeraderie (spelling) is second to none. +1 for a chip in fund. Ive already spent a small fortune on parts for my rebuild so what's another 100 to help a good bloke out....
  8. [quote name=MBS206' timestamp='12993 34097' post='5700913] Dave, to the GTR, no, to his wifes mx5... Oh no that's even worse in a way. He has to deal with the wrath of the boss now
  9. I couldn't make it so I have no idea what happened but I hope Erics car will be ok, so sorry mate. Without going into particulars of the incident is there much damage???
  10. Have fun peeps, wish I could make it. Hope the weather stays dry for you
  11. Yeah true, I agree with you about the restriction side of things but from what I e seen these things are on full song by 3500, earlier with cam gear. Hardly laggy really. Not having a go dude I agree with all that you have said, just trying to put your mind at ease a bit. These are widely regarded as the "best" turbo you can get if you want a quick and responsive rb25 If you do decide to go the 3" route please let me know how it ends up and f you think its worth it as I might do the same. I'm still seriously considering getting the die grinder out and cleaning up the inside of the pipe a bit for less turbulence, do you think it's worth it???
  12. It'll Still be a bloody fast car Harey 3" or not. How long till you put it on? I'm still working with the interior at the moment so mine won't be on for a month or two. Keen to see your results mate
  13. I'm looking at it this way, as it is with the proper supporting mods we will get an easy 270-280rwkw right? Add to that E85 or on my case I'm going to use water/meth injection, and 300-310+ rwkw is very easy to get. At this point we are really going to be pushing the standard bottom end and our cars are not what you could call newish anymore (my 33 is in excellent condition but still has 100k on the clock) so I'm trying to avoid a built engine for as long as can as I want to do everything else first e.g brakes, suspension blah blah and it all cost a lot of coin. ~300 killer wasps makes for a scary fast street car I reckon and really any more than that in a rwd is sort of asking for trouble driving around in traffic and such. Know what I mean???
  14. No logic really, had the catback for a few years now (HKS silent Hi-Power) and was running a highflow for ages so decided to upgrade the turbo and grabbed a front pipe to suit
  15. You were right to ask me to check again, 2.5" pipe BUT the actual flange is 2.75" and the pipe is kind of flush on one side and about 3-5mm short on the other. At closer inspection Im a bit miffed with the quality of the dump pipe as a whole considering its a >3.5k kit. I mean the welds in general are outstanding but there are a lot of jagged edges which could do with a tidy up me thinks. I might have to get out the die grinder. As with the welding on of a 3" flange and pipe i really dont know???? would it get us THAT much more flow for the hassle. As i said earlier HKS have put a heap of R&D into this particular turbo kit and I do wonder what the idea is behind the slightly smaller dump but do they know something we dont or am I trying to read too much into it???? Im no expert with turbos so Im really just guessing, maybe the 2.5 is cheaper and easier to mass produce??? Where is disco when you need him to answer the tough ones....hahaha The wastegate part of the dump more than big enough IMO, I think its the biggest split dump Ive ever seen in that respect but I hear you about the other pipe. Im a little confused myself. I might have a chat with my tuner and see what he reckons although when I told him i bought the pro s he did say I will not be dissapointed as they are a very worthy huffer for the 25
  16. Pretty sure on the size but I'll re measure it to double check, give us a couple of hours man and I'll get onto it
  17. Ok here are the pics of the dump how it comes from hks with the product code on the bag A couple of the actual dump so you can compare The bottom of the dump (Front pipe end) measures around 70mm so thats about 2.75inches??? The top of the dump (Rear of the turbo end) is a little less than 40mm wide x 80mm long for the wastegate part (2 pipes welded together in a funny shape)and the main pipe around 65mm so around 1.5inch x 3inch for the W/G and 2.5inch for the main pipe Is this the same as yours Harey?? Mine is going onto a 3inch front pipe then into a 3.5inch catback (all hks) so I wouldnt think the less than 5mm diameter that close in would make THAT much of a restriction on such a proven turbo?????? Seems to still be good for an easy 280rwkw and I think JoeyJoeJoe got over 300 on E85 so Im not worried. Hope this helps, I have the whole kit still in the box inside its individual plastic bags so let me know if you need any other info D
  18. I can give you the dimensions later tonight Harey. Just gotta get bubby off to bed then it's back to the rebuild and luckily I have a new 2835 pro s kit sitting in a box. I'll measure it up and post pics for you, might not be till midnight though ok?
  19. Sh1t Dave I forgot all about it sorry mate!!!! I've been home a total of 4 (not together) days since I told you I'd give you a buzz. The change of position at work has meant many days on the road, driving me a bit crazy at the moment but it's meant to calm down in march. Looks like I wouldn't make it to wakie anyhow, filled up quick eh??? Sorry again 2.0
  20. Haven't spent much time on the car over the last couple of weeks cause of work but I've managed to replace all the dash cluster, A/C display and buttons, clock display and window switches with LED's (thanks 666DAN) and ive rewired the entire sound system and started on the sound proofing. Parts are slowly turning up so its getting there. Now have the radiator and the plazmaman plenum at home. Found out today it will be at least a five week wait for the bonnet which is a bit of a bummer but so be it. A proper update post to come soon guys, heaps of photos on the camera but not on the computer yet. I need to spend a week or two at home so I can get right into it
  21. Hey bundy what would I upgrade the alt earth too?
  22. Thanks guys, Well I reckon I've Sussex out a few things that will contribute to the noise I have been getting. First thing I found was the earth for the headunit, it has had a thicker wire spliced in so as to make two earth points but it was attached to the gearstick bracket thingy which IMO is not ideal so I'll fix that up. Secondly.........and this made me have a little chuckle..........when I had my sound system installed I did watch most of what went on but went for a 20min walk to get a bit to eat so I didn't see the entire installation. Turns out they used some nice 12 gauge wire along the floor to the amp and speakers but then they still spliced it into the standard tiny factory wiring so as to not go through the doors. And thirdly the earth from the amp in the boot is only connected to the bracket thingy that the battery sits on, very rough I reckon so I've decided to redo the while system. Just goes to show that you do not always get what you pay for!
  23. I have the pro s sitting here in a box at the moment I will post up some pics late this arvo if it would help answer disco's question. I am in no way a turbo expert but the Kai and pro s appear very different and the Kai has a rear in the standard bolt pattern just like the gtrs. Please correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the gtrs a little prone to surge as well and hence the reason for the port shrouding? Seems as though hks is trying to save a few dollars here by having a kind of "generic" housing setup for a range of different turbos??
  24. Thanks for the kind words guys, it is a long story but that's how they all are when comes to modding cars. I nearly sold it to get a gtr but after sooooo many years of ownership and doing all the work myself it's kind of a part of me know if that makes sense. I'll add some updates asap, work is flogging me at the moment so haven't spent much time on it this week. It will be a slow build me thinks!
  25. Hahahahahaaaaa, so I can blame you for my driving Chubbs! Your more than welcome to a steer mate, won't make wakie in march but I'll be at the next one
