  1. The only reason I was gonna coat it in clear afterwards was to "protect" the colour as its not a specific engine/metalcraft paint(as in not hi-temp?), but actually a touchup colour which is almost a perfect match for my body colour
  2. Hi everybody, I have spent all afternoon looking through the "Engine detailing" type threads and many of you guys suggest using Dupli-Color Metal Craft anodised paint for painting Cam covers etc. I was wondering, lets say I was to use normal Dupli-color auto spray and then went over it with a VHT clear would that keep the temps from damaging the Auto Spray colour? The reason I ask is that I have found a auto spray acrylic that in my eyes is a perfect match to the body paint so I think it would look quite good at a fraction of the cost of getting a professional to match my body colour. What do you all think? And if it wont work what other options can you suggest? Thanks in advance, Dave
  3. Wow! thanks everyone for such a large amount of replies. Like what has been said by a few of you I have never actually had a problem or anything with my HICAS I was just curious why people locked it. So I guess Ill have to wait till I get to a track day to see if I notice any probs at high speed (Because of course I have NEVEREVER been over 110kph on the street,Honest!!) Thanks again guys for not treating it like a dumb question
  4. Hi everybobody, Can you guys answer a stupid question for me? I read in a hell of a lot of threads on these forums about people locking thier Hicas and was just wondering what the benefits of doing this are? Is it for handling or for traction? I know its a silly question but how do you learn things if you dont ask questions eh? P.S. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section Dave
  5. Thanks Chris, Look forward to meeting you. I often cruise out your way and up the F3 to visit the oldies. So keep your eye out and give us a wave. When I shake this bloody flu ill come along to one of these dinner things with the Mrs (she just LOOOVES car heads, Hahahahaha)
  6. Hey you guys might be able to answer a question for me. I faxed off my application yesterday and payed over the net. How long does it take to get your card, stickers and whatnot. Im not in any hurry at all just wondering
  7. Dunno if ill make this saturday night. This flu has sat me on my arse for a week now(Gotta love germs eh!), But ill be sure to try and make the next one.
  8. "I think i've seen your car around before actually. I live at Cherryrbook." Yeh you probably have. I havent driven it much lately tho cause ive been doin the mods myself and the exhaust only turned up last week( Still waiting for my bloody cat so havent even started it with new zorst on it!!!) "Dural hey... so youve got a million long windy roads at your disposal?" Yeh mate many, many, many windy roads out here!! msnismo: I know, like I said I promised myself (And my wife) that I wont start modding again but after 7yrs I just couldnt help myself. Im sure you all know how it is. Im just hangin out for my cat to turn up so I can crank it over and take it for a spin
  9. Primordial: I live out Dural way. DRD-OOF: I do love this turbo 6 but ill always have a soft spot for my statesman (Spent over 30k on it) there is nothing quite like the sound of a full house Chev you know!! Plus it did go HAAAAAARRRD. Just very hard to get nearly 2.5 ton of 70s metal to stop!!
  10. Hi there, Just thought I would say gday to all you people and introduce myself. My names Dave and ive had a 98(Yes Really) S2 R33 since 2000 which I have kept dead stock until 6 months ago when I decided to finally go down the modding path. When I bought the car it was one of only a handfull in Australia and have watched over the years as they have grown in popularity. I have only had V8's all my life and promised myself after my last car(HZ Statesman with 550hp 350chev) I will never do up a car again!! But the bug always come back doesnt it (Much to my wifes disgust ) So far ive only done the usual mods(FMIC,APEXi Super Suction Kit, Custom Air Box W/CAI, Split Dump Pipe, High Flow Cat & HKS Exhaust....Clutch Kit on the way) And will be getting ECU and HKS GTRS at some stage in the near future. I just sent off my NSW membership application yesterday so keep your eye out for my on the streets of sydney and give us a wave. I look forward to meeting some of you guys at events/Track days (When work permits )and getting to know some of you better. Here is a picture of my baby from about 7months ago the week before I started doing the mods. I have a real passion for the skyline and want to have not only a fast but well built and smartly modified street/Track car that i cant see me getting rid of for a long time yet. Anyway I think Ive rambled on long enough ( Im off work with the flu and I'm getting REALLY bored at home) Take it easy people and I look forward to talking more with You all
  11. Thanks Chris Ill take that on board. Ill prob get UAS to do my tuning for me as they have worked on my car since the day I got it and have always tried to be helpfull. Guess ill have to rethink my options a little as it seems no matter what ECU you chose they all have their good points and bad points. The only reason I was gonna steer clear of the PFC is availability and the price seem to go up almost daily:( As you stated in your post I dont see the point in paying 10k or so for an ECU for a midly tweaked street car that will be used on the odd track day. Seems like overkill to me.
  12. Mmmmm, Now you guys have me thinking. John from UAS has mentioned to me that a few people are starting to play around with the GTR PFC D-Jetro units reggiged for a GTST. You guys had any experience with these? Do they work just as simply or can they be a bit of a headache??
  13. Sorry people-Hungry animals wait for no man! So the E-Manage is a better all round package then?? What is its tunability like and are many tuners willing to have a crack at it because its a new thing?? Does anyone know of tuners in Sydney with experience with the E-manage or will people that have tuned the PFC find it ok to work with?
  14. Sorry guys Ill post back shortly I just have to go feed all the animals
  15. What is the problem with the Microtech?? What makes the E-Manage a better choice?? Im not planning on going too extreme with mods but will one day like to put a HKS GTRS turbo on it. But that will have to wait a bit cause if I do it all in one hit the wife will FREAK!!!! LOL
  16. Hi Everyone, I havent made many posts on these forums but have been reading them for a long time now so please be gentle. I am the proud owner of a 1998(Yes Really)S2 R33 which I bought in 2000 and have kept dead stock until recently. After the usual mods(FMIC,APEXi Super Suction Kit, Custom Air Box W/CAI, Split Dump Pipe, High Flow Cat & HKS Exhaust....Clutch Kit on the way) I am ready to look at getting an aftermarket ECU. I was going to get the usual PFC but as we all know they are now very difficult to get and are getting pricey so I have been doing searches on what other engine management you guys use. I think I have narrowed it down to the Microtech LT-12 or the GReddy E-Manage Ultimate. What I would like to know is what do you people think would be the best option for me with tuners in the Sydney area and reliability of these two units. Most of the searches I have done are quite old threads so I thought someone who has had these units for a while could help in my choice. I am not some young Boy Racer and have a Genuine passion for these cars as all my life I had only had V8's and have found Turbo cars to be amazing machines. Thanks in advance and I look forward to meeting some of you guys at SAU events and track days etc. Dave
  17. Hey Guys 5th time poster long time reader I want to ask a question that maybe some of you people could help me with. A mate of mine just gave mw a D1Spec Radiator breather tank which looks exactly the same as the carbon canister but is a chrome alloy unit. If i replace the ugly black canister with this breather tank will it do the same thing?? The breather tank is hollow inside, does any body know what is inside the carbon canister?? (Foam,Cotton wool, Charcoal(Ha,Ha) etc) I just thought that if I replace it how bling will that look! LOL. Seriously tho, Im just trying to pretty up my engine bay a bit after doing some minor mods (Believe it or not ive had a stock standard series 2 since 2000 and have only just decided to go down the modding path) Anyone have any advice? Looking forward to talking with all you guys as I venture down the modding path
  18. Hey Guys i just stumbled onto this thread and want to ask a question. 19. Hey Guys, Just stumbled across your thread and thought I might be able to help with sizes. I got a quote today for 215"s after trying to get 615"s for nearly two months. Turns out that you cant get 17 inch 615"s anymore in 225/45, 235/45, 245/45 and 255/40 but you can now get 215"s in most sizes, my quotes were (f) 235/45/17-$305 & ®255/40/17-$339 (Sorry no 265/40) Hope this helps!
  20. Just sent you a PM Maxx, Very interested
