The nicest example of an R32 GTR I have ever seen.

Cheers for the info here, sorry to bump the old thread Had this exact issue after wiring up a new stereo where there was previously none so I didn't think it was related. I used a multimeter to do the stereo wiring so was easy to mistake it as earth. What's the best way to earth the stereo when using typical 20ish awg wire from the headunit? Was thinking could find a place to drill a bolt into the stereo bracket behind?

I dunno how hard it is to find a RHD VH45, you will have issues with a few things with the LHD afaik, not really worth it You can use VH45 pistons and crankshaft in the VH41 to bring it to 4.5L VH engines are all alloy so nice and light, very over engineered engines. You will probably have to go for custom pistons if you want to put anymore than 6psi boost in it but I think the VQ30DET pistons may be a good swap but unconfirmed I believe Other than that you would just need custom engine mounts, adapter plate for gearbox (VG, RB, W57, R154 all solid choices), custom driveshaft, custom exhaust manifold and there will be a few other bits and pieces that you may need but nothing too major People have done twin turbo VH45 into S13 so it's definitely do-able

Aha yeah just thought I'd let you guys know how I got on

All done Took ages to get the rotor off, due to the loose handbrake shoe.
-
god damn i think i was tightening the caliper bolt

I thought I would try be pro and adjust the handbrake balance on my skyline Oops.. I hit the wrong thing through the hole in the hub and a screw-type thing with a flathead head fell out into the hub which had a spring and a washer on it and I couldnt get them back to where they should be.. it looks like it might be a handbrake shoe holder or something.. either way it's just floating around in the wheel hub now.. I tried to get the rotor off so I could put it back in properly but the caliper bolt is on ridiculously solid (17mm) and could not for the life of me get it off.. any tips? there's a workshop 5 secs down the road, would it be worth going there to gimme a hand? cheers.

The VG gearbox would probably just need an adapter plate or something of the likes and will hold up to about 450hp, it has fairly beefy internals similar to RB25DET box afaik but I believe the RB box would be slightly better. Also, the only difference between turbo/na VG boxes is the TT flywheel is slightly larger.

When I first started driving I would downshift coming up to a stop but only because it felt more controlled and it sounds cool too. But then I got lazy and also figured the thing about brakepads & clutch wear and just coasted until just before the car needs more revs and neutraled it. Edit: ^^ agree with the guy above in regards to when you engine brake, people behind you can't see you slowing down as easily.

Off topic: Good stuff Cubes, those boxes go for about $2000-$2500 here in NZD.. as soon as I saw the price on this thread I pretty much choked. I'm going to have to get an RB20DET box for my conversion at this rate, for about $750-$900NZD Might look at importing an RB25DET from Aus at this rate.. probably be well worth the trouble.

Took the car in for re-vinning today, didn't go so well Here's the list: Battery not secured Left front steering rack boot is twisted Clean oil off right front radius rod bush Clean mold off both rear outer seatbelts And the worst thing, apparently they can see slight weld marks on the front crossmember, le sigh, means I have to fork out $340 for a certificate for this within 20 days to get it rechecked. Not toooo fussed because with all that finished and rechecked it should still come at $2,000 on the dot. Here's hoping it goes well. >:[ Updated my blog with the new costs and todo lists etc. Cheers for your comments guys, keeps me going

In New Zealand, you must periodically keep your car licensed (vehicle registration) pay a fee every 3/6/12 months and away you go. If you do not do this for 12 months your car will automatically be de-registered. This is what happened with this car, lady was a slackass and just left it and it eventually become deregistered. You must now pay $300-$400 for recompliance. They will take the old NZ VIN plate and replace it with a new one (I believe) and either re-use the number plates you have or reissue with new ones. For recompliance it's basically a hardcore warrant of fitness, they will take out carpet, take off wheels, pull apart brakes, that sorta stuff. I'm dropping the car off tomorrow morning and picking it up Thursday, to give you an idea of how long it takes. If it doesn't pass, you have 21 days to bring it back and get it rechecked at no extra charge.

Once it has been re-vinned and everything. (Taking it in Wednesday morning) and it's tidy how I want it, I can start pulling it apart. Manual conversion (RB20DET box) and Engine conversion (RB30DET). It's going to be fun.

Hi guys, I've been a member on here for a while now but only really read the forums and absorb the ridiculous amounts of information (and misinformation ) here. I've wanted a Skyline for ages and finally picked up a de-registered one about 2 weeks ago for $1,000 and have been fixing it up to compliance standards, it's been steady and relatively minor but I should be taking it in a couple of days to get complied and re-vinned in the next 2 days Anyyyway, feel free to check out my work log on the blog system here, this is the link http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/bl...hauno/index.php? Oh and I'm from New Zealand by the way so there's probably a few weird things to do with re-vinning and stuff that might not make sense to some of you fellas but the main point is the car itself. All criticism, comments and tips are welcomed. Thanks for reading! Shaun. (hope this section is right) Oh edit: also you can see the things on the sidebars for lists of things...

For my 300ZX I got a loan (wish I didn't), for my Skyline I saved the cash.

Thanks mate, is the VIN code ER32 synonymous with ECR32? Because the plate only says ER32.
-
If you could please look mine up it would be cool, thanks! ER32000962

Cool vid, nice smoke and wicked sound. Keeping it off the road kudos

Not sure how similar your neon laws are compared to us over in NZ but I believe to have neons here the tube has to be out of view and also any undercar lighting has to diffuse rather than concentrated light, ie. a spotlight.

If you had the knowledge and resources, sure but the main thing here is how would you feel if your $500 laptop-ecu hybrid that you choose to use failed while driving. Imagine all the R&D that has gone into current ECU's and there is a very good reason why they cost so much.

Got Bored Today, Modified Triple Gauge Cluster

Nice job, hope you have an easy way of turning the shift light off if you use this on the road too because it's gonna piss you right off after a week of driving at night!
