  1. I had car impounded, was accused of exceeding limit 45 and over reckless driving neg driving etc etc. It took 5 days, in court, $2000 and 3 months with no car but the case was dismissed in court. I don't like hearing the attitude to 'just cop it sweet'. The police have way too much power as it is and by giving in to what may be wrong you pave the way for them to walk all over the limited amount of rights we have left. It's not a matter of beating the system. If you're innocent then fight, guilty then cop it. If you honestly thought you were only doing 110 give it a go. Mate got done the other day speeding, officer went through readings on lidar till he found one close to the speed he thought he was doing, then showed it to him. Said he was doing 117 under brakes, showed him 116 on unit display. Mate was not rude agreed he was speeding and was let off with a lesser charge. He wasn't going to lose his license, though. Good luck and hope it works out. Cheers Matt.

  8. I think we all have to realise that police are only human, not robotic, and any prejudices or emotions they posess are of the individuals not the police force. My car was impounded and the officer couldn't even produce a radar read out even though he claimed I was doing double the speed limit, still didn't stop him taking my car and costing me a fortune, not to mention the innconvinience of losing my car for three months in the middle of winter. Wrong place, wrong time I guess.
  9. Hey Johnny its good to see an apprentice that thinks outside the square!!!!! I've been in the trade for 8 years and going through my apprenticeship did a lot of work at home to make ends meet. Started of small (brakes, services) and ended up at full blown engine conversions and performance work. I found that the extra work I did at home challenged me and made me really think and learn as there wasn't anyone else there to help me out. If a car wouldn't start I had to work out why! The experience you are gaining doing this work will certainly pay off for you when you finish your trade, not to mention the profits of your labour now. Stick with it mate this trade needs guys like us. Cheers Matt.
  10. agreed. One could argue that someone who pulls out at the wrong time isn't attentive... I have read elsewhere in this forum of people losing control of their vehicles at low speeds around 'slippery' corners, its situations like this where I'd rather have an experienced 'HOON' sliding/drifting beside me rather than a careful driver sliding out of control without a clue about where the vehicle will end up or what they should do. Some people are born to go fast... race car drivers, pilots etc etc, some people are born to play chess.
  11. You couldn't do 263 at a track, you'd have to brake to make it round the next turn..... At least he did it on a highway and not in a 50 zone like a late friend of mine did, flipped his car into a tree and put his mate in a wheelchair, could have been much worse, probably wouldn't have happened on a highway. If no amount of training make you able to 'safely' speed why are the police allowed to.....? People will always speed regardless of the vehicle whether it be a barina magna or ferrari, its human nature, its just that your average joe that doesn't have a million bucks to pay his Solicitor to say... " It's a Ferrari, your honour, a supercar that is capable of reaching insane speeds on public roads safely, it's built to do it therefore its ok". ... and get away with it. And If this bloke did kill your family or someone you knew, he'd have to live with it, every minute of everyday of the rest of his life, that in itself is quite a load to bare, regardless of the puisnment you or the courts could dish out. I'd rather have this guy, who appears to have an above average skill level of driving, heading towards me on the other side of the road at 200+ then some young 17 yo old p plater with 4 mates in his dads V8 falcodore that he was told not to drive. Everybody has done something wrong at one stage in their life, those of you who sit there and talk of the terrible thing this kid has done are hypocrites. Experience is just another name for a whole lot of mistakes, I dare say that this incident will make this guy grow up very quickly. This guy doesn't give us a bad name the media does, guns don't kill people, people kill people and speeding doesn't kill it is the sudden stop at the end that does.
  12. Use a plastic scraper and a solvent to remove the glue, then give it a polish afterwards, the paint will be slightly different underneath as its not faded.
  13. do yourself a fovour and go and spray some WD-40 or similar on the exhaust studs tonight, will save your so much drama tomorrow.
  14. if you can stop the cylinder firing one at a time from 1 - 6 (you can do this by disconnecting the injector, coil or lead of the cylinder) you will be able to find out if it is actually a big end noise and exactly what cylinder its occuring. when the cylinder has no combustion most times if its a big end the noise will go away. Hope this helps. Cheers Matt. Catch it early and you may get away cheaply.
  15. I know a guy he did mine, I thought that they were screwed as the mags were that bad they were given to me, he fixed them up a treat, I don't think he'll fix buckled rims though. He also does paint repairs and plastic welding etc etc. Contact Brian operating under Unek paint repairs 0145333330. Cheers.
  16. I second that. I tacked on the barb fitting from an old fuel filter with a mig to run down to my actuator.
  17. spent 5 bucks on a tube of ultra blue(gasket silicone maker) covered my coils to insulate them, never had a problem again, even when running 16-17 psi, its tight arse and doesn't look good but beats spending $100s of dollars on splitfires... Hope this helps.
  18. where are you putting the pick up for your timing light? I've read somewhere on here that it would give a false reading if you use the loop.
  19. and if the guy doing the pink slip is switched on and see's the light on constantly or not coming on for its self test at all, your car can be failed.
  20. IM240 will test 4 things(correct me if i'm wrong) THC- total hydrocarbons CO- Carbon Monoxides CO2 - Carbon Dioxides NOx - Oxides of Nitrogen Some of you other guys may be able to recall the levels that these should be at to pass. The hydrocarbons is done by taking a reading inside a sealed room to see if you car is leaking fuel vapour, so make sure your carbon canistor is connected correctly, the other three are exhaust readings. Cheers guys.
  21. or any of the gearbox bearings as they're all spinning with the car running in neutral.
  22. I'm in the trade and its not the best paying trade to be in, I think the award rate for a quailified Technician is around the 16-17 dollar an hour mark... thats poo. Thats not to say you won't be paid better than that, average starting rate for a sparky is like 30 an hour thats a good trade to start a business you need clients a van and some cables, but there is soooooo much crap you need to know to do as a Technician and you aren't rewarded for it. Mate is just starting his business and he's looking at around $150 000, and its already setup with hoists etc. I agree with MattD, stick with uni get it finished, when you're earning triple what I do enrol in a tafe course learn how to build an engine and go from there, backyarders are just as if not more talented than most workshops out there! Cheers Matt.
