yeah do what you can, just make sure your not in a rush to do a certain thing ( ie; I've got to get these injectors in but I've only got 2 hours to do it...) give your self plenty of time and do research if you haven't done it before, the DIY threads have tons of very helpful info in them! Injectors: don't lose the little black spacers that insulate the fuel rail from the intake manifold.you may be able to install the injectors many different ways but i removed the throttle body when i did mine. vasoline on the base seals and o-rings is a must!!! AFM: is pretty straight forward, if youre going to splice the new plug into the wiring and keep the original plug so it can be returned to stock if needed, tape it inso its agianst the harness and sealed off, after soldering everything up so not to gather corrosion on the terminals when its not in use. Turbo: make sure your coolant lines have plumbers tape on the threads( if there the screw in type rather than the hose and clamp) as its impossible to tighten them if they leak slightly once installed, and make sure you bleed the coolant correctly, hear of so many times guys get there new turbo on then take it up the street only to limp it home having blown a head gasket!!! other than that good luck with it all Cheers Matt.

hey man sounds like your a bit upset, we aren't recommending that he drive his car around for months pumping unburt fuel out the exhaust, just suggesting some ways he may be able to not only save himself some money, but also learn something as well. Take a chill pill, and if you're going to talk about melting Ice caps you better drive a honda jazz or a hybrid, not have an lcd screen and store water in your rain water tank... if you get my drift. Cheers Matt.

Gearbox Recondition
mattymagoo22 replied to hetman's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
they may have re-used your bearings instead of using new items which could explain the noise, $1500 did that include r&r of the box? The syncros are a little slow on these boxes when shifting easily IMO -
should tell you the sizes in the drivers door jam, on the tyre placard.

there's no reason you couldn't get it to run if you put the turbo, injectors and fuel pump in, when I put my Z32 on i didn't cut my old plug off i spliced the wires i needed to and left it with 2 plugs, so it can easily be put back to stock if needed, do this before you take it to get tuned so you can change over the AFM when you get there save your self a couple of tanks of fuel for the price of the tow! Set your injector correction to 50% based of stock flow injector 370cc ( if you have other than standard injectors this may be diff), don't know the latency correction but this isn't that important tuner will sort it the rest will take care of itself, pop the AFM in when you get to his workshop (5 minutes) and presto. I don't think you're taking a big gamble driving it untuned unless you go boosting all over the place, self control and you'll save a fair whack of coin. Good luck if you're goging to give it a try. Cheers Matt.

That was the only good thing about the laws around APEC a 'sunset clause'. The police were given the powers to literally "Bash anyone"( as long as they have REASONABLE CAUSE) they didn't like, but after APEC had finished these powers were then taken away, under a sunset clause, and correct me if I'm wrong, once a bill/legislation is passed its pretty much there indifinately until parliment amends or rescinds it. The act under which my car was confiscated Traffic Amendment( street and illegal drag racing) act 1996 did have a sunset clause, which was ammended 6 months after being passed due to it being so effective. There is a lot of legislation out there we aren't aware of (like being gaoled for steeling a carrier pigeon, for example) it comes down to discretion, get into a bar fight in a pub in Sydney and you will most definately get a harsh punishment due to the frequency of it in the media recently, do this in a pub in the middle of Bourke and you'll probably be locked up for the night to sleep it off and then let go without so much as a talking to. I was just unlucky in that the officer had it in his head that he was going to take our vehicles, and this was something he could do without having to prove anything( a speeding fine would be disputed in court without first having to pay the fine or losing any Demerit points) but impounding my car was a way he could punish me without there being a way to prevent it, it was dismissed no charges were laid, I still lost thousands of dollars( more than my car was worth) that I can never recover, he knew it I had no leg to stand on. Thats what happens when people have too many powers. We end up with no rights! So Reasonable cause is left in the capable hands of the individual, it just so happened that the individual I encountered was, for lack of a better word, a complete WANKER! Had it been a different officer I may have been let off with a talking to, not that I did anything wrong, and saved myself a lot of hassel. It was not to be and the officer took my property without hesistation, without a court hearing and never did turn up to face the music as he knew that he didn't have a case.

My car was impounded, an old r31 skyline on a friday morning at 7am going to work, mate beside me in his mondeo we were talking through the open windows and missed the lights we both took off quickly after being beeped, we actually turned left from the lights (crn of Carlingford and Pennant hills rd). Next thing we were both stationary at the next set of lights not 100m from where we had just turned ( marsden rd i think) lights came on and an officer appered at my window demanding my licence, which I promptly gave him he also got my mates as we were driving in peak hour traffic. We pulled up outside carlingford bowling club where the officer had instructed us too, asked why we were driving in the manner we did and what were we talking about at the lights? We told him that we were talking about something we had just heard on the redio and we took off from the lights quickly as we had not wanted to hold up traffic any longer than we already had. I didn't spin my wheels at all, my mates mondeo did slightly there were no marks or smoke produced was dry and in peak hour traffic. to cut a long story short. The Highway came to the conclusion that we had verbally organised a race referrring to the conversation we had and had carried out the act by accelerating from the lights(around a corner mind you then coming to a stop not 100m from that intersection reaching maybe 50 or 60ks), which gave him enough cause to remove our cars to impound them under the 1999 road safety act(forgive me if thats the wrong section). I had no way of defending this claim the decision was made by him our cars were removed, we had to take all personal belongings and walk to epping station. I lost: 3 months rego and insurance having a car in the middle of winter 5 days off work going to court $2000 in solicitor fees towing and impound costs Verdict the police officer in question had no addmittance that myself or my mate were racing( really 7am in the morning in peak hour around a corner) he exercised his right as an officer of the law and confiscated our vehicles without having to prove anything. When in court the prosicution had no witness( the officer failed to show up after contacting me several times to see if I would plead GUILTY!!!!) and the case was dismissed. I had no right of disputing the costs incured even though i did nothing wrong, just had to cop it. this legislation was introduced to stop hooning and organised illegal street meets in industrial areas at 3 am on sunday mornings(I forget the name of the taskforce) was introduced it stays with the resulting outcome the situation I was in. The police have too much power as it is I was guilty until proven innocent, but still had to cop the costs. I am all for no racing as sadly it takes lives as we've recentlly seen on the news, but my situation was a case of too many rights and too much power for the police. I hope that this opens some eyes. P.s I still have the brief(cost me $2000) and the officer even got that wrong he charged me with neg driving occassioning death.... I didn't even have an accident! My solicitor was disappointed that he didn't get to have the matter heard( he would have liked to make a fool out of the police, I was just greatful that I didn't lose my car or worse go to Gaol!

Wheel Shaking And Tram Lining

Hey Sleepy, wasn't taking a pot shot at you, you just wanted your car fixed. I was taking about the people that kept guessing. I assumed you meant tie-rods when you said it was bent, as I've never seen a bent rack?!?! How was it bent have you got picks? and what effect did this play in the reason for your steering shaking? Cheers -
Squeeky Brakes Only When Reversing
mattymagoo22 replied to soongster's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Asbestos may be deadly but it sure was great as a friction material, no shuddering clutches no squealing brakes no glazed rotors, with the compounds used in todays brake pads 2 things will always happen noise and dust, its hear to stay! Each time you wash your car, ( make sure your rotors aren't hot as they'll warp) jam the hose into the calipers and wash as much brake dust away as possible. It may also be a build up of brake dust in your handbrake, shoes inside rear discs may be quiet forward but when reversing get noisy. Enjoy. -

Be very careful guys or you'll end up looking like one of the guys from Rambo 4, that is you'll only have half a head!!! I've seen the hats off these go through roofs so take care when pulling apart if unsure take it to a pro and keep your face and teeth looking good. -
Wheel Shaking And Tram Lining
mattymagoo22 replied to sl33py's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I can't believe that your mechanic couldn't find a simple problem like a worn tie-rod, especially if its been happening for over a year as they should check for play in the front end and rear when your rego inspection is carried out (NSW anyways) this should easily have been found and the business of changing every thing is poor dianostic work to say the least! This is the reason you see people on A Current Affair crying about owning a lemon that has had XXX number of parts chnaged XXX times when in fact the company/workshop were just guessing what was wrong, throwing parts at the car without actually finding the cause of the real problem. I'm glad your car is fixed mate but I'd find a new mechanic and name and shame all the places you got a wheel alignment done as they should also have discovered the problem as well. Just my opinion. -
Conductive Grease Under Coil Packs

use gloves when playing with heatsink grease as its carcinogenic. -
a relay is an electrical switch. If you turn off you radio then turn keys from 'acc' to 'on' you'll hear relays click on and the opposite is true when reversed. Voltage goes through a coil which pulls in contacts which completes the circuit (turns on the switch). The one that controls your indicators is called a 'flasher can'. Good luck searching.

yes will fit no you don't 'have' to change the fuel pump just the settings on you power fc to compensate for more flow from bigger injectors. From memory you put the settings to 82.5% and +.056 (I don't think you can get it exactly that amount) . latency time isn't that important in my opinion its only out by a very small amount. Installing a bigger pump and getting a tune will get the best from the money you've shelled out(I'd be installing a Z32 AFM whilst i'm at it to get the best results as you'll find the the AFM is maxed as well)

Strange Whine On Acceleration
mattymagoo22 replied to fooz's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
If you push the clutch in you are taking the gearbox out of the equation as it stops spinning and the thurst bearing starts doing its job! Remember clutch peadl pushed in and noisy: problem thrust bearing, clutch pedal out and noisy: problem gearbox bearings. I'd put my money on fuel pump, pop your bonnet and get a mate to clamp the return fuel line( the one without the fuel filter in it) and if the noise gets louder you know thats what it is. Cheers. -
this happened to a couple of Kia's I've worked on over the years, we found that the screws that held the lock to the door would fall out and get jammed in a bad place( inside the lock), to get the door open(2 person job) we'd make sure the door was unlocked : ie hold the snipper knob up in the open postion hold both inside and outside handles open, remove workboots find the strongest place on your door trim to give a shove with the heel of your foot and try to jar/force the door open. Don't try and Bruce Lee the thing open as you'll only screw your trim. Failing that try to pop the end of your trim closest to the lock and see exactly whats stopping it workingyou may be able to pry the trim away far enough that you can get in there without totally stuffing your trim up, hope it works out. Cheers Matt.

Electric Window/central Locking Gremlin R32
mattymagoo22 replied to MYRB30's topic in General Maintenance
Hey mate haven't ever played with anything like you're describing, I'd check where you're getting the power for your passenger side door lock. you've obviously got power getting there when it shouldn't its just a matter of finding out how. Why does it only happen when you put the window all the way up and not whenever you try to wind the window up a little, hard to say without seeing the cat but best of luck, hopefully its something simple, keep us posted. -

If you tried to clutch start it there is a possibility that the timing belt may have jumped teeth. -
Wheel balance = stop vibrations.... AKA shakes Wheel alignment = allows car to drive in a straight line (depending on camber of the road). Disc Machine = Stop vibration/pulsation under brakes. A wheel alingment will not fix a vibration and vice versa for a car that pulls left or right. Cheers.

No offence but somtimes you customers are incredible! Lets just say you have a busted knee, do you just walk in on a doctor doing an operation and say can you look at my knee? No you don't. Most cases you have to book in (waiting list) and make an appointment for a specific purpose, to which a given amount of time is allocated. Lets just say you've got your car in for a $1000+ service and the mechanic is half way through changing the timing belt has to leave what he's doing to go and plug their machine/scan tool (which may cost upwards of $7000) just for a blow in off the street who doesn't want to pay for the use of the expensive equipment or the technician using it(most often upwards of $100 an hour!) he comes back and forgets to tighten the tensioner up, you come back in 3000ks with bent valves wanting to tear someones head off! Everybody expects something for nothing these days, you don't call a plumber/electrician to your place and expect to pay nothing or have them there right the minute you call, you have a time they think they can get there and a call out fee, so why should it be any different at a workshop, not to mention that a mechanic in a dealership situation has to account for every minute of his working day for productivity and efficiency. Hooking the machine up to your car and going through the data with the customer would be the best thing to do for goodwill and customer satisfaction, but this scenario is not always practical. Cheers.

everyone assumes its the oil pump! A lot of times it is, particularly on RBs, however, I've seen more engines spin bearings due to detonation like Proengines suggested! If the cars had a fresh build and has 23000ks on it and has been pinging the whole time due to a bad tune or even crappy fuel something has to give! In this case forged pistons aren't as likely to crack a land and the shock of detonation will overtime hammer the bearing flat and then the crank may pick it up(most likely at the time between the violent resonance when launching of the limiter when driving your friends GTR like you stole it) And a good engine builder will be able to confirm if in fact it was pinging just by looking at the bores. Hope you get her fixed.
