  1. Hey yeah, that's me! You're Troy right? Guy with R34 GTR.... This is Ali....and yeah you came and checked out my last GTR (which i fixed and sold) Ahaha its cool, coz i only paid half the value of the car........so I'm making deductions hehe. Anyways, today confirmed the worst......few cylinders are dead. Am now looking for an RB26 bottom end....sigh. Will update when I have more info. For the time being am going to start a thread in the WTB section.
  2. COWIE: Firstly, thank god this car isn't the red GTR i bought. Its a gun metal grey one i bought....my uncle lives in Jap and I had some extra dosh, so i though y not? Considering the rule was about to end........ Anyways....the car still doesn't start. We aren't trying to start it till monday. Yeah, only sound i can hear is the starter motor for a bit, then the engine struggling (kind of like a flat battery) OK...funnily enough, while the car was getting fixed, there was a freak incident, when part of the mechanics roof got blown off, and some rain water clearly got into the engine bay....everything was open, i.e direct access to spark plugs. this gives me hope...maybe there's just water in the engine? Thanks for the heads up rob82. Hoping for some luck. OK oil leak, was minimal, after about being start for 10 mins....there was a small puddle, perhaps the size of a 5cm in diamter.....that contained more water than oil. In any case im not going to try and sue the mechanic...i was just wondering if it could be his fault.... Moving on now....I can't wait for my Red GTR to get here (its a November model) so thats what im looking forward to. Recently, i've had some hard luck with GTRs, my last one required a rebuild, before i sold it, this one came with buggered turbos, now the engine seems to be on the way.........ah well, who said owning a GTR would be cheap. Just can't wait to get it on the road......its really frustrating having it lying around in a workshop.
  3. Will do. I'll have proper details on Monday. Peace.
  4. LoL Perth is expensive. I'm not sure about the labour rate, but I have real mates rates from my mechanic some costs have been: Engine swap RB20: $500. R33 GTST, clutch replace: $150. R32 GTR, rebuild: $2900 R32 GTR, turbos removed and replaced: $300 That said, the highest i got quoted for the turbos was $450 (still not bad) and yes they're a hell of job on the GTRs. Anyway, good luck with your car, nice to know that I'm not the only one whos wasted a lot of money on GTRs, but boy is it worth it.
  5. 500 bux, in and out. That was the cost for pulling out the old motor, putting in a new one. Labour is cheap in Melb, especially where I live, heaps of performance mechanics competeing for the mullah. Now....6-8k....sounds too expensive, unless they're upgrading all the internals. Even a full rebuild, I can't imagine it going past 5g. If you open up the engine, and see whats still good, what's gone, then you can save a fair bit. That's how I did my last rebuild, only one of the bearings was gone, so just replaced it, machined etc, cost me less than 3g all up. But, it wasn't a "FULL" engine rebuild. If you're gonna keep the car, then you might upgrade the internals etc, it would be worth it if you're rebuilding anyway. So, in summation, rebuild might work out cheaper, might work out to be the same at most, depending on how battered the current motor is. Regardless, i dont think its worth putting in another motor, unless you are sure that it has done very low kms and has a long life ahead of it. Even so, I'd still go the rebuild, just for the peace of mind.
  6. Hmm maybe. I sure hope its something like that. I'm surprised that the motor would pack itself, it seemed to be driving well prior to the installation of the turbos. Although maybe I couldn't tell coz there was no forced induction.
  7. Hmm its definantly cheaper to rebuild the engine. The cheapest I could find a replacement motor was about $4.5g. Add about 500 bux labour, plus oils etc, 5g all up. Plus, you don't know how long the engine you've bought will last...whereas a rebuild, you know it will last a while....although running it in is really annoying LoL. Cost wise, rebuild should be a fair bit less, unless you've done some heavy damage.
  8. haha that's what i was saying about 6 hours ago...... What's really confusing is, that on my last GTR, it was obvious i blew the engine (wasnt cause of the turbo) and you could hear the clear tapping of the bottom end. At the moment all u can hear is a grinding sound when trying to start. I assume that once it starts i'll be able to hear it. I'm kinda hoping that it's not stuffed though, will find out for sure on Monday. All i know is that rebuilds=expensive.
  9. Ok, I have a similar story. I imported a GTR from Jap, went to pick it up from the wharfes and found that the turbos weren't working (drives like an N/A) Later found the turbine wheels in the cat. Bought turbos, gave em to the mechanic. Drove the car a bit without functional turbos. Today, found out that after the turbos were installed, the engine may have packed itself. Still not sure, but it won't even start now. Cranks over and complains, sort of a grinding sound. Wont start. I think the turbo stuffing up may have something to do with it. 10. Hey guys, First a rundown of the facts. Recently, had a GTR imported, found that the turbos weren't working (found the turbine wheel from one of the turbos in the cat) Bought N1 turbos, sent the car off to the mechanic to get fitted. Today went to pick up the car, the mechanic finished the work when I was there, he took the car round the block real slow (exhaust still wasn't attached, so no more than 40km/hr) Before he left there was an obvious water/oil leak, mechanic said it was the turbo oil n water lines, and that he needed me to get some. Anyways....mechanic was coming back down the road, where the car sorta seized, stalled. Now, we can't start the car. Another near by mechanic came past and says most likely engine is buggered......i don't know, it won't even start. My other GTR made this tapping sound (bottom end bearing) when i blew it, this one won't even start....so im a little confused. The car was driving fine when i picked it up from the port.....just no BOOST, as the turbos weren't working. Now the engine doesn't start.... Anyways my question is this, has the engine died (if its is indeed dead) because of the mechanic, or some fault on his behalf while he was installing the new turbos? OR.....because it was running high levels of boost in japan? (indicative from the blown turbos, and presence of a boost controller with no other mods.) Any help would be much appreciated.
  11. I tend to agree with Sewid on this one.
  12. Thanks for the link. Already know about that site though....been playing around in it for a while.
  13. Both are taken. Spewin. One of my mates suggested "GTREDY" and "GTAAAR" Also like SKY-HY also taken. Help me think people! LoL
  14. thanks for the feedback... But in Vic..cant have numbers between letters. Just numbers after letters
  15. Hey guys, Well I want personalised plates for my Skyline for some reason.... Nissan Skyline R32 GTR. I really wanted "RATEDR" But they're already taken. Any feedback at all would be great.
  16. Maybe its coz the 350z actually sells? I'm pretty sure Nissan know much more about marketing their cars than you do.
  17. How are the torque figures on STis compared to GTRs? Higher torque would determine who comes out of the corner better right? I assume, that if u compare the same model car...i.e 2003 STi vs 2003 GTR the gtr would come out trumps. Straight line......can't see a GTR loosing (stock on stock) unless the GTR driver bogs it down.
  18. Dunno. Some1 sent me the list via msn as a Word Doc.
  19. Hey guys, Managed to get hold of this list, containing all the fixed speed camera locations in Melbourne, could come in handy. Also, if this is the repost....I'm not the type that cares....so no smart comments please. 20. nah there are heaps of skylines....but not in the CBD. I see an r33 GTST every 2 mins. No Joke.
  21. Well I should know for sure on Friday......well be going on the Dyno hopefully, if nothing goes wrong, and I'll see how i go at different boost levels.
  22. mhmm. Pump and injectors would be a wise investment if you're going to be running around 18 pound.
  23. i have a similar question, I'm getting N1 turbos installed on my GTR as we speak, the car is standard, other than full exhaust system and aftermarket airfilters, how much boost can i safely run, without risking damage to the turbos or engine? I was thinking around 15 pound max?
  24. My 32 GTR is on my Dads name, 33 GTST is on my Mums name (helps with insurance too) I've been driving turbo imports since I was 16, the issue has never come up. Dunno if they let u register cars that are over the limit on your own name or not, pretty sure they haven't got a clue and allow it.
  25. I tried searching. The search engine kept telling me something along the lines of "less than four characters" so i can search......that ruled out N1 and GTR. Leaving...turbos. LoL yeah agree that the HKS turbos are better, but I'm just chucking these on as the budget option, until Jan, when I will sell the car.
