  1. How often are you planning on changing your tie rod ends? It you consider how long they last and knowing that they are going to fit perfectly the price Nissan ask probably isn't too bad. You may be able to get the parts through a place that does steering/suspension/wheel aligning work but I don't know if they would sell just the parts to you. At any rate you should get a wheel alignment after changing the tie rod ends so it may be better to get the wheel alignment shop to install them as well. Btw, Nissan dealer charged me $120-$130 per tie rod end.
  2. Have you tried Nissan? Are you referring to the ball joint where the tie rod end meets the knuckle thingy? If you are you can't get the ball joint or ball joint boot separately. You have to buy new tie rod ends as it is completely sealed.
  3. Thanks ferni! Try using the link above, VB-. I've been toying with the idea of a video DIY for a while so this is just the first go. Hope people are finding it useful.
  4. Here's a video DIY for brake fluid change that my boo and I did on my R33. Just click the link, download, and enjoy! http://media5.filewind.com/g.php?filepath=5550 If no one downloads it for 30 days the file will be removed from the servers (it's on a free webhosting server), so keep my baby alive. If it does get wiped then let me know and I'll re-upload it! Now, go change your brake fluid!
  5. Free shipping within Australia for the Momo gear shift knob! So no excuse for all you interstate buyers now! Reduced price of castor rods from $30 down to $20. Pick up only for those though.
  6. Changing the cat and front/dump pipe in one hit will also save on labour. Even if you are DIY it'll save you the hassle of having to jack the car up and unbolt everything again.
  7. Confirming what salad said. The hole at the very end of the bar is softer, the one closer in will make the swaybar act 'stiffer'. Try them both to see what you like. Also depends on the way you're driving and the rest of your suspension setup.
  8. It's not like I'm asking my car to do anything special. I'm not even wanting the car to perform well in 40 degrees just wanting it to idle normally and not stall. I take it that others whose car has had idle issues in hot weather haven't been able to fix this problem?
  9. The first time I rode in a Skyline it was sweet as. Loved it when the boost kicked in. Felt like I was getting squashed back into the seat. The second Skyline I drove I bought! Stock except for heavy duty clutch. Was very surprised as how easy it was to drive!
  10. Swaybars reduce body roll by changing the leaning movement (ie body roll) to a twisting movement that is taken up by the swaybar. So instead of the car leaning from side to side as you go through corners the swaybar twists. This results in a flatter ride when you go around corners and makes for a much more exciting drive =) It is a balancing act to determine if it is better to have or not to have. No real right or wrong as it depends largely on your car, its setup and the way you drive. As a guide you'll feel it is effective up to a point and then if you keep going to a thicker bar it can become overkill. Not to mention the physical factors such as having appropriate mounting points and hardware so the swaybar doesn't rip out of the chassis.
  11. Geez, that's pretty rude of whoever did that. I'm not sure what parts you need to change but would it be better to try and source a complete door from a wrecker? If you can't replace the entire door then perhaps you'll be able to pull out all the guts of a door to use in yours. Is this covered under insurance or are you having to pay for it out of your own pocket?
  12. How do you guys go with moving and flipping the seats forward? I find that in my R33 there isn't much room to access the back easily even with the seats fully forward and flipped. It's probably not so hard with the little ones but when you got 2 adults trying to squeeze back in there it can get plain annoying (for them anyway). No problem getting the doggies back there though, although they do prefer to ride shotgun. R33 has decent boot space. We managed to fit 5 25kg bags of rice (125kg of rice in total) in there.
  13. Thanks for the response MintR33. The idle problem only seems to happen when I start the car up after driving it for a while so the engine is still warm (or hot as the case has been the last couple of days with the weather in Adelaide!), I don't have the a/c on at this stage. Once the car has been driven for a short while the car idles normally at the lights even with the a/c on. I have just had the cooling system and a/c system fixed with all new parts, but the car was fine after all that work. It has only started with the extremely hot weather.
  14. I have the same problem. Yesterday and today the temps have been 38 and 41 and since yesterday when I went to start my car, that had been sitting out in the sun for about 4-5hrs, the car would idle at 700-800rpm but then drop down very low (100rpm) and then try to raise up again to 700rpm. Sometimes it would not raise the revs and just stall. If I start the car up and give it a little gas to raise the revs up to 1500-2000rpm for a bit the car settles down and drives normally. Has the heat damaged something in my car?
  15. I've reduced the price ppl....someone must want a economic daily driver? It's a great car and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it....like buying a new car, even got the new car warranty and reg so u can just drive it away...
  16. Poor Sydney-siders, you got our stinkin hot weather that we just had in Adelaide over the last couple of days, which the WA mob kindly sent our way! I had recently gone to a cooling system specialist and they gave me quite a good diagnosis and list of what needed to be changed and what things weren't working effectively. I can't remember most of it as I don't know alot about car air conditioners, but one thing I do remember the technician saying was that the AC lines ran quite close to the turbo and the heat from it was reducing the effectiveness of the AC system. Perhaps this is something that may be affecting your car?
  17. What's the problem following the intructions in the manual as someone posted earlier. Doesn't that tell you where to jack the car up from and where to put the jack stands? How can this not be safe and how can it damage/crush anything? Why would nissan write it in their service manual if it wasn't the right way to do it?
  18. Did you check the offset? Make sure the shop isn't going to use spacers without telling you, unless you don't mind if you have spacers.
  19. You don't have to hear the pinging sound for pinging to have already occurred, so you could be causing damage to the engine without knowing it. Definitely agree that it's a good idea to carry some of that octane booster for when you're out in the middle of know where with only regular unleaded.
  20. So what was the outcome of the vote? Was it just a politician only decision or was the road going public actually involved in the decision? Don't you just love the way our 'democracy' works.

  22. Yeah, it seems like every other kind of job, that preparation is the key to a good finish. Do you think that welding is something a girl could do or is there too much physical strength required (I'm only lil)? Is it best to get some professional training like a short course at tafe or wea course rather than reading instructions from a book to learn the basics? Like B-man I reckon being able to weld would be a real handy thing around the home. Thanks for the advice, Linda
