Slow 180sx VQ30DETT
MBS206 replied to 30ed32's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Can I ask, where did you buy the raw rail from? Also the alu you have that is shaped for the intake, did you start from flat alu and shaped it, or did you buy that from somewhere? -

No bike! -
Read the thread by Femno about tubular equal length manifolds, he built a beautiful set, barely any advantage over standard manifolds. Note they were not this, but consensus appears to be you can do it cheaper with stockies

Yeah it runs a HB3, and a HB4, I just don't remember which one is high/low beam. I'm assuming from the above HB3 is likely my high beam?

Rb26 Low Mount Tubular Manifolds - Do They Make Any Difference?
MBS206 replied to femno's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I think we may be on the same wave length. When you do tuned length for an NA engine, the primaries and secondary lengths are huge in comparison to what we do for a turbo manifold, so it's possible we're even putting high pressure pulses rebounded at an exhaust valve when an opening event occurs which is bad! I'd love to do some testing of "equal tuned length" vs some smooth flowing but unequal length. Alas I'd want to do it with an EGT sensor per cylinder, and back to back on a dyno and I don't have money to build it, yet alone dyno time costs! -
Rb26 Low Mount Tubular Manifolds - Do They Make Any Difference?

I'm interested to know, on a turbo car, once spooled, how much advantage is an equal length runner since we have such a huge restriction at the turbo... I feel the equal/tuned length is best for spool up and NA engines, but how far does it affect a turbo once on full boost? -
Rb26 Low Mount Tubular Manifolds - Do They Make Any Difference?
MBS206 replied to femno's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
With regard to that equation, yes, but that equation doesn't work in this scenario is the issue. The exhaust manifold with a turbo in it is quite a complicated area. To use your above formula you could look at the exhaust as a whole, but it still doesn't take everything into account, and as such still doesn't work. The biggest thing with a lot of those formulas is that you need to simplify things down to a constant value, for something that is constantly changing. When they teach this stuff at Uni, it's "this is the rules!!!... By the way, you can only use the rules in the minutest amount of calculations because of... " -

That last part talking about water in the pipe, has a pressure differential that is quite dramatic to calc it's flow. Exhaust gas flow doesn't At that point in the system. -
Rb26 Low Mount Tubular Manifolds - Do They Make Any Difference?
MBS206 replied to femno's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yes, but pressure differential can be regarded as 0, there flow flow rate regarding pressure change = 0 change in the runner. -

MBS206 replied to femno's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
That's for calculating a pressure differential. Do you know what the pressure difference is From exhaust valve to turbo? 2/5ths of nothing. Which means that equation won't apply for altering the flow rate. -

I haven't found in any of my engineering texts how halving the length doubles the flow. It doesn't change flow rate at all funnily except for drag on the walls, and temperature drop and some other minor parts. Flow rate is in metres/second, and then you multiply by the cross sectional area, and you have the volumetric flow rate. Note how NONE of it looks at the LENGTH? -

Velocity, and volume. Hence why retaining heat is important as it keeps the volume larger. Length as Lithium mentioned is about timing, at which point diameter also plays a part, but you're looking for the other side of the pulse to be at an exhaust valve when it opens to be a "vacuum" and help scavenge everything out of the cylinder, which let's you get more into the cylinder, which gives you more bang, which gives more exhaust, which gives faster turbo, which gives more inlet flow which gives more bang, and the cycle continues... The ID of the runner can also bring the spool up rpm up/down, but then it can become the choke point, not the turbo, in the higher rpm, hence it's all a balancing act. -
In the 105 Cruiser, HB3 and HB4. Can't remember which is which ha ha

If I were to have my time again and broke a 25 I'd just stick another back in and avoid any hassles and have fun.

I have the Narva high intensity high beams in the cruiser, the cheap ass low beam LEDs from eBay I had in it threw light as far down the road as my high beams, the only thing the high beams did was light the tops of trees up. And I'm talking the top of the tree, not halfway up the gum, just the top. The LEDs also lit the middle of the tree up. Only way to get more light was to flick the light bar on. Unfortunately it's more of a flood than a spot bar. Still got more distance and width, but not like I would if I ran the bar I put on the old boys Hilux. The current Phillips low beam halogens I have are rubbish.

Haven't ordered the lights for the cruiser yet, been playing with the skyline instead.

It would be great if people would read the threads on topics covered 1000 times before. It's also be great if people who thoughts things might have changed would ask questions about the products that were good 5 years ago, such as "I saw people liked X, y, z, are these still good, I can see they're still current, OR they've been replaced it appears by T, H, y, has anyone used those ones, are they just as good/better? -

Thanks, I'll have a sneak peak. I'm meant to be doing the dodgy budget build to just get mine going but this is Such a clean build that it's inspiring, and I'm thinking I should take the time to properly mount and clip things, and even give it a respray
