Rb26 Turbo Upgrade, All Dyno Results
Simonster replied to SLY33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
This is the dyno from the previous owner. I've had the car since may but has since munched a bearing so it's now receiving a 26/30 That said these are the details; Supposedly forged internals ( haven't pulled the sump of yet to check) Tomei 260 9.1cams Greddy cam gears dialed in Sard 700cc injectors Apexi pods filter Z32's PowerFC Blitz boost controller Stock intercooler N1 turb's Double dump pipes Tuned front pipes of unknown brand but beautifully made 2.75 inch into 3 3.5 inch ex from cat back massive canon - car is very quiet! Can't hear the engine at 100km/h Single plate clutch which was fine, but fcuked now from over exuberant launches by previous owner. 044 in tank Boost peaks at 22 trails off to 17 Very nice to drive -

Got these back from the ceramic coater today. Spent a few hours porting the standard ex manifold, i know you can't polish a turd but at least you can help it flow a little better;) Still waiting on the adaptor plate BTW top gunnesssssssss isn't a word -
Its an interesting topic. I didn't realise people were having drama's with thermo's. I run an RB25 in an S13. I had A.R.E make a dual pass, cross flow 42mm radiator that sat under the radiator support due to the room restriction of the RB. Initially i ran a Davies craig 16inch thermo (~1900cfm) with no shroud, it couldn't pull the heat out of it while stationary- very frustrating. I then ducted the radiator to force all the air through it. Better, but still high 90's. Fitted a 16inch SPAL (3000cfm) fan & pulled out the aircon and BAM no heating issues. It sits on 79C on the highway (Autronic) I can do 5 flat out laps of QR and it sits solidly on 90, on the cool down lap i'll enter turn 2 and the temps will be back at 80!! i also have a vented bonnet. Whats my point? Give the radiator the best chance to cool, it has a hard time as the inlet charge has to go through your intercooler which takes a lot of speed and temp out of it, then the aircon core, slowing and heating it fruther still then finally it gets to your radiator. Ducting will force the air through the core as air will take the easiest route and go anywhere BUT through your core. Otherwise on a street car, if you still have temp issues i'd say you have bigger issues. I have the thermo set to come on at 85 and off at 82. It's never on while driving around the streets. Hope that helps

I don't believe it but the engine has arrived. Seems longer than 8 months since i was screwing it together. Clutch off getting some new innards, still waiting on the adaptor plate and the bits have been sent for ceramic coatings to be applied. Hopefully have it running in 2-3 weeks. I'm off out of the country first week in October for a week or so so hopefully it'll be ready to start when i get back. Here's a pic of then engine after i'd opened the crate it came in...Still to fit the valley covers GTR label but at least it's here -

**UPDATE** The 26 is now out of the car, awaiting it's new heart. After a really really long wait, the 26/30 is supposed to be leaving Sydney on Monday. I know i've said that before but it's very frustrating when you can't control what is and isn't happening... Bought the -5's in the end and am very keen to see how they match with the 3 litre. Sourcing a twin plate clutch as the Nismo twin plate the car was supposed to have is a single of an unknown brand More money but i am confident it'll be worth it in the end. Gearbox is getting a recondition with new synchro's while it's out as well. Really looking forward to getting back into the GTR. Didn't have it for long before the engine had a lean out and one of the bearings had a sad. Rest seems fine, need to decide whether to sell it or recondition it and put it to one side in case the 25 in the Sil80 ever has any drama's.... Am keeping the standard manifolds, just a light port and ceramic coating for them, the Xforce dumps will also get a coating as will the exhaust housing of the -5's. Other than that, it should be going in a few weeks.....whenever shanef decides to make that sump adaptor for me!! -
Thanks for the replies. I originally placed this in the RB30 thread as the engine is a 26/30 and was searching for a clutch to handle the torque, but i'm now having one built for me Thanks

Oh, bugger the camera. I'll be out there 10 September for the Ruzik time attack. Really looking forward to it, will be my first time to the track. I'll have a camera on board!

Ben, Did you get any in-car footage?

Just wondering what clutch you guys used? I have a single plate that i had rebuilt for the RWD application, but now the engine is going into my GTR, i'll need a better clutch Just after some info on what you've used. It would be ideal if the engine went on an engine dyno before fitting into the car, but that's not going to happen. So i've guesstimated the torque for my clutch guy to make me a single plate. I went with 600ft/lbs based on my engine builder's estimate. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Regards Simon

**UPDATE** Apparently the engine is on its way to Brisbane, but i'll believe that when it arrives. The engine in the GTR developed a knock a few months ago driving home Not sure what, until it's pulled apart. So that decided for me. Bought the adaptor plate and the 26/30 will go into the GTR Have some dash 5's on order, should be a good match. Don't expect it to be in the car for a few months, but $$ poor at the moment -

Did the guy buy these- if not i'll take it -
I have a Power FC I bought around 20 months ago for a project that didn't happen. So there's no point it sitting in a box when someone could be using it. Comes with hand controller. You can see the serial numbers in the first picture. $1200+delivery A pair of Z32's from the same project. $500 for the pair + delivery Don't get upset if i don't repsond in the next few days, going oversea's with work.

I have Paul's engine monitor and race logger in my car. I only have some basic sensors, like rpm, oil pressure/temp, water temp speed. Soon to go in are steering angle sensor, G sensors intake temp, fuel presure etc I did a driver training day with Mr Paul Stokell & Jonathan Webb and got some valuable data for Paul - he's crook at the moment but let me say he has some very exciting developments which he can tell you about. The Oil temp warning saved me today on QR's national circuit- although my water temp didn't get above 90, oil temp hit 110 after 4 laps so i backed off for a cool down lap before getting into it again. Yes i run an oil cooler, one thing this has shown me is it isn't big enough!!
