Rb25 Turbo Upgrade, All Dyno Results
Simonster replied to Nacho Vidal's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
UPDATE Only change, 6boost manifold Now, 16psi 400hp 19psi 430hp....picked up 30 hp -
Its not a VCT head. Thanks, we'll check overlap
-
Thanks for the replies, and yes its Simon...pretty imaginative eh! The boost gauge he has reads around 12psi when it's apparently supposed to be 17 according to the SM4. I've given him another boost gauge to use as a comparison. I"m also going to check what boost the computer is supposed to be seeing with my laptop tomorrow while he drives. I think they would in 4 degrees of advance on inlet only, power was going in the right direction. Ex is still set to 0. You've got me Cubes, what do you mean by cam centrelines? this engine has a great lumpy idle With the standard cams it made around 320 with an indicated 19 psi, it's still a similar figure but now indicating an alleged 17psi A dyno graph was the first thing i asked for as well, he has one but only a power curve with boost, i wa more interseted in the torque curve- i'll get him to post it up.
-
good question hence 2 boost gauges! We dont' think its really running 17psi...maybe the map sensor in the SM4 is faulty?
-
I meant that he wasn't confident that the car was actually getting 17psi even though that's what it was saying on the SM4 software. It doesn't run any boost controller on the wastegate, just the spring and its a 14psi jobbie. The map sensor is located in the plenum yes. Matt Spry is the tuner, so yes the AFR's are fine

So did you stab yourself in the face???

The turbo is the original 3040 from many years ago, when it came out it was supposed to be rated at 600hp, so there shouldn't be a problem there. I have another 35/40 that we can fit if need be but we don't think its the turbo. The Matt doesn't know why the power is no there. My thoughts are ( i wasn't there when it was tuned) 1. the car isn't holding the required timing when under load...yes i know it an SM4 it has all the gear to make all the numbers- its just not. (i have an SM2- so there is no hatred of Autronic) 2. compression is down on one of the cylinders- that said it is yet to have a compression check to see if that's the case The car owner thinks its not really making 17psi. If it was making those numbers on 13-14psi there'd be no real problem, so we are fitting other boost gauges to triple check this. The cams were slowly being dialed in and were producing gains in the right direction, just not the numbers Yes its got some serious gear, the compression is "low" as he is fine running big boost and lower static compression. Keep in mind it's only very recently (last 2 year or so ) that its become the norm to have 9.0:1 on turbo engines producing big numbers. My built RB25 run 8.5:1 and i think it's pretty responsive 8.8 isn't that far behind it. Its a DE head and when the engine was originally built some 5 years ago, the selection of piston that exist today weren't available. Thanks for the suggestions, any others?

Piston Oil Squirters---->aftermarket
Simonster replied to r33_racer's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Absolutely, the purple thing is a little bit faster now than when you last saw it, still haven't fitted Sydneykids track kit yet, but it's not far away- think i've got the most out of the existing set-up. I'm working on aero stuff now. -
Posting here for a friend, here's the specs 25 head, light port, HKS 265 9mm both inlet /ex, Jun valve springs, JE flat tops pistons, compression 8.3:1 Bottom end, RB30, ACL bearings, RB30 rods shot-peened linished balanced, crank drilled grub screwed, etc Rigoli plenum, 1000cc Rochestor injectors, 044 pump, sard reg, 6 into 1 ex manifold , external gate turbo smart, GT3040 turbo, 17psi spring SM4, CDI, NGK8's, tuned my Matt Spry. Car has been well and truly run in. The car with standard cams made 330 rwhp at 17psi , now with 265 cams, making 325 rwhp?? We are all at a bit of a loss at the low numbers, we expected decent numbers from this set-up. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks

So how did this day go?? I see it's noticeably absent from any news??? WTF people, surely someone must have some pics and info on the day? GTRGeoff....anyone...

Piston Oil Squirters---->aftermarket
Simonster replied to r33_racer's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yes Michael they do, almost bought them for my 26/30 build but went CP's in the end. I thought you guys gave up racing/skylines?? -
I spoke to Gav on the day he set his PB, when i asked him what he'd changed since last time he just said the HSD's, he didn't offer if he'd changed any alignment settings specifically. I certainly hope he did cause there's little hope of me catching him now if he hasn't. Sounds like i need to bite the bullet Gary and fit your track kit for my S13 . I think i've gotten all there is to get out of my HKS stuff.

Soon to have one of your units in it Paul, so the times should tumble Would be interesting to have a go on the national circuit

Unfortunately Geoff i have to work on Saturday, so i won't be there. But thanks for the wrap! There's more left in it with the current set-up, i was held up on that 2nd lap you saw on the you tube video by the little Starlet- i almost think i can dip into the 56's on semi's....if i get everything right that is Needs new tyres as well now

Come on boys, play nice. Its a learning enviroment here and we should appreciate the fact that SK spends as much time as he does on here after dealing with it all day at work- he doesn't have to! I'd love to fly Gary to Brissy to set up my car with his suspension package and give me pointers with it, but i know that's not going to happen, so there no point getting upset about it. Learn what you can and go try it. I'd be thankful he assists as much as he does

Hey DJR, Just for your info, car runs an RB25 which was part of the reason for the harder front rates to rear. More importantly, i drilled another 2 holes in the whiteline rear anti roll bar. What a difference, car sits much flatter i acutally get power on oversteer out of slower corners now, which im dialling out. Didn't touch anything else. It's a different car now!

I guess a lack of response has answered your questions Geoff! 32 posts, Cazman hasn't been around very long, particularly if he's talking like that about SK, clearly he's a clown. -

Yes, replaced them twice, never had any noise from them! -
Finally Got My Car Tuned - Dyno Results
Simonster replied to Shaun's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Cool thanks for your words of wisdom, i can state the obvious too, however my statement remains. Its very easy to control boost with Autronic and anyone that can't probably doesnt' know how to use the software. And he doesn't have boost control problem, a 1.06 is producing boost right where it should. -
Finally Got My Car Tuned - Dyno Results
Simonster replied to Shaun's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hey Shaun, Really like the engine bay effort. I'm currently building a 26/30 with a 35/40 .82 rear housing to replace my RB25 in my Sil80. I run an Autronic SM2. If the boost was coming on too early i can set it at what rpm i want it to come on. You can too under menu M5 using the boost set point. Use the Boost Dynamic Comp to control how aggressive the boost control valve is controlled to try to achieve a set boost point value. A lower value will give you a slower repsonse but more stable boost with less spiking. The boot offset table will correct the pressure to get s flat line! So someone telling you that it comes on boost too early is either lying or doesnt know how to use the software....if its the latter, consider going somewhere else? Hope that helps -
Brake Pads Users Ratings Guide
Simonster replied to Snowman's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
For those of you that have read Sydneykids assesment on different pads and their compounds, this may be of some interest. I've just replaced my pads with the Hawk HT10 from and rear. This is the pad that Gary used for a number of years on his race cars before going to another compound. Let me tell you these things are just brilliant. i ran them in last week, good bite from cold but man they keep getting better the hotter they get. Great pedal feel and lots of control. They kill the RB74's at all temp ranges. Will try out at track day 5 April -
Rotors received!! Thanks Rianto
