  6. Scott, I have an RB20 in my 180. You don't say why you can't run them in front of the cross member?? Give me some more info so i can try and help?
  7. I used the standard RB25 rods in my rebuild, but be aware there are at least 2 types. The weaker of the 2 ive seen has a small lump on one side of the rod shaft about 2cm below where it connect to the piston. This type is very weak, the other looks exactly the same as the RB26 rod. These are the ones i used which I shot peened and linished. My engine is built to support 550hp all day- just food for thought for As far as the rod bolts, yes ARP don't make them for the RB25, I used ARP for the SR20, works just fine Good luck with your re-build
  8. I had a pleasant experience last thursday on the way to work. In Brisbane heading towards Ispwich on Ipswich rd just prior to the Cunningham HWY exit in an 80 zone a motorcyle cop got me doing 103 in an 80 zone. That's just under the over 25km/h bracket, which was 3 points and $250. I guess what might have helped my cause was he didn't even get to signal me to pull over. I knew I was gone and indicated and pulled over before he did anything. I said good morning and he told me I was doing 103 in the 80 zone. I said I knew I was over the limit but didn't think that it was that much. He just turned the gun around and showed me the reading. I said "well the laser doen't lie" He asked me for my license and asked why I was going so quickly. I just told him i was late for a brief at work. (Im in the RAAF and was wearing my uniform-flying suit) He said that he didn't like booking RAAFies and told me to take it easy and let me go. I was pleasant he was as well, and when I got to work i told everyone that I'd just met the nicest mototcycle cop on the planet. What's the moral to the story? There isn't one, I guess i was just lucky. ;0
  9. Anyone tried EBC greenstuff? If so how were they? If not what pads do you use?
  10. Another thing you may want to consider, is that the VL can have problems with the 2nd gear synchros, as it wasn't designed to rev to speeds like the RB25 and quick 1st to 2nd gear changes may reduce it's life as well. A mate of mine went down this route as well and had these problems, but hey, it might have been a sh*t gearbox from the begining? Definately cheaper than the RB25 box though
  11. I have a RB25 which has a custom plenum. The only reason I changed it is I wanted to have a cooler with short pipes and I don't like the"look" of the corss over plenum. This is what I had made. The guy that made it for me has been building racing engines and cars for 24 years. My goal for it was not to increase power, but to enable me to run the cooler without the crossover pipe as I like the "GTR" look. I'm still waiting for my turbo to arrive so I can't give any benfits or drawbacks, just my reason for wanting one.
  12. I too got them from SWR
  13. Zensoku, I have all the DVD's that HPI put out and in an interview with the Boss of Veilside, he says their drag cars don't use "ancilliary" equipment like BOV's etc. So the turbo's don't last very long with the massive changes in pressure from WOT to fully closed. So no, it's not just old style turbo's. Just some food for thought
  14. REV210 Good to hear you had a positive result with your flywheel lightening
  15. Guys, I used ARP bolts when I rebuilt my RB25 and yes they don't make them specifically for it. So I used SR20 bolts. They are exactly the same as RB25 Thanks for coming;)
  16. When I built my RB25 I used an alloy water pump pully to reduce weight and made it a few cm lager in diameter to reduce the possibility of cavitation. Also used a custom flywheel as well, about 3kg lighter than standard. Although I'm yet engine run the engine as I'm waiting to source my turbo, I can't offer any benefits or downsides. My thoughts would be to reduce weight of the flywheel, but reducing it too much, say greater than 4-5kg, will reduce the rotational mass too much for the street and torque off boost will be reduced. Can't say how by much but my engine builder said that any more than 5kg is pointless on a street car.
  17. I didn't modify my engine mounts and it fits just- gotta custom plenum
  18. Please enlighten me then?
  19. Hurry up and post your duno printout, I'm interested to see it
  20. Hey guys, chill out. You both have your opinions and they are valued by the forum members. Sounds like you're both starting to get too worked up over a difference of opinion. And in the end it's just that, an opinion offered to forum members, lets leave the "my dicks bigger than yours" mentality out of it
  21. I currently have an rb20 in my sil80, however it isn't enough so I'm waiting to drop in a rb25. No difference between the two in physical dimensions
  22. Hey Joel, I have converted a 25de to be a turbo motor. My intake is quite a bit different to yours, my intake ports are much larger than the examples in your photo's. Were the injectors top or side feed?
  23. Dabigbolf, Congrats on getting the car back on the road and its phenominal performance!!! Looking forward to seeing your 1/4mile times and a dyno printout??? I'm really jealous Getting my car back from the painter in 2 weeks, then the build process can continue. Hopefully finishsed 6-8 weeks after that.
  24. dabigbolf, What turbo did you end up using??
