Hi All
I stumbled across this site, and must say glad I did too. Nothing like a chat with people who know their stuff, and others like me lol. Well, basically I bought a 96 GTST RB25DET only to help out a friend in need-although I do love this funky little rocket!!! I know bugger all about such cars although give me the ol' Holden ute and not a problem. They paid 30k for this a while back...then spent 30k on it . She only sold it because the ex has given her the raw end of the deal, and she got the kids too.
Prob is...as I have read in some of the other posts it does sound a little similar but not completely. Yup, she seems to almost pause/break down (but not missfire as i know the term) when giving her a gut full of fuel. At about 4500rpm the problem starts, just yesterday a mate who knows a little about things (he used to own a Baby Godzilla?) asked if I can smell fuel as well. Only yesterday about an hour before he asked, yes I could but only seems when the aircon (it defiinately comes thru the aircon) is on, and when the car has been started for the first time in a few hours? After a couple of minutes the smell dies down a bit, either I get used to it quickly or it stops all together. He reckons it could be the Air Flow Meter, which turns out is actually off a 300ZX-the last owner said because they perform better?? This thing has gauges and gizmo's that are well beyond my knowledge-to the point where I am almost too scared to push any of the buttons on anything lol. Maybe it's me age catching up with me The Trumpy Daytona has taught me a few things but lmao...
Problem two...I live in the Pilbara region of WA so there is NO-ONE up here that can do the diagnosis for me via the computer and it is about 1650km's to Perth (or tally that in $$$ to transport her down and back?). Any one with any suggestions, hints, advice, or just wants to swap words for a chat...please feel free to reply. Any info at all might be of use to me at the moment...when it comes to this little car I just put my hands up and go to experts, but there seems to be none around when it comes to running gear.
It is a nice machine, and while I have had no issues getting things done to it, I would rather not start buying parts just to see if maybe it was that.
Thanks all, and I look forward to being part of such a select group of Aussies
