  1. sorry about that dude, I did a search and nothing came up. I am the bloke that does the drivers briefing and runs the fun day, actually I should say used to, I am there just doing safety now (and cutting a few laps in my car), no need to get hyped up about it, you don't own the event. No need to thank me femno, thank Winton, they have been doing it for years, it has just got more popular in recent times.
  2. Yes, there is time allocated, and the speed sounds about right. The session only goes for about 15 mins
  3. The next Winton Fun Day is scheduled for Sunday July 8th 2007. The Fun Day is a "come and try" day and is designed to allow the average motorist access to a real race track under controlled conditions. Cost: Is $25 per driver and $25 per passenger Programme: Normally be there by 8.00 for scrutineering, but this can take some time. Drivers Briefing at around 9.00 - 9.30 Driver only on track for 30 minutes sighting laps, then Driver with passenger for 30 minutes, then Driver only on track for 30 minutes, then Driver with passenger for 30 minutes, then Driver only on track for 30 minutes, and so on all day until about 4.30 Requirements: Bring your car, an Australian Standard Approved helmet, the helmet can be either open or closed face, fire proof clothes that cover you from neck to ankle to wrist (cotton or wool clothes are good). Runners are not the preferred footwear, Blundstones boots (or similar) or any leather type shoe is preferable Make sure your car has no oil/coolant leaks, fitted seat belts, battery is secure, wheels nuts are tights, no loose items in the car or boot. The Car does not have to be registered, but has to road/race worthy. Tyres need to be in good nick, tread depth is not normally a problem unless wire is poking out. There are normally no checks done of lights except for brake lights except if it is an overcast, rainy day, then there may be checks for lights as well as wipers. Tow bar tongues and bull bars must be removed. You do not need to have a race licence, club licence or indeed a car licence abut you must be over 16 to drive or be a passenger. And very importantly, bring a smart, alert attitude, coz there is some very fast cars out there, whilst it is not a race meeting, some people bring race cars and we push them hard to behave appropriately around first timers. Food and drinks are available through a canteen
  4. We have tried that, it doesn't work, remember this is a "Family Fun Day" not a race event, not a club sprint event, if we did it the way you are suggesting we would be going to midnight, having sessions with 2 cars in them while everyone else stands around. The current system works well, there has been very little drama and the feedback has been enourmously in favour of what we are currently doing. If it ain't broke, why fix it? But I am always open to better ways of doing things, ask those that have been coming to them for a while, we are continuously improving the running for the event.
  5. Don't like it, don't do it. I am the organiser of those days.
  6. Our pleasure Russman
  7. A lot of those "bogan" car were speedway cars, one or two were ex aus-cars. And I am just glad you didn't post a pic of me now that you what I look like - doh! BTW, do I look like my avatar <----------
  8. Good words of advice there Belsil80
  9. It would be unlikey to go through more than that. Winton have a fuel station anyway.
  10. Bring some tools Mat, be aware that you can only 2 x 20 ltr jerry cans of fuel due to OHS stuff. It is normally a hard day on brakes and tyres, but if you don't drive like a maniac you should be fine. As slayer says it is a great day, but we dooget a few dicks on the track, I try to get them off as soon as I can. BTW, I am the coordinator of the day on behalf of Winton.
  11. Next weekend everyone
  12. I couldn't disagree more, we had a set on the front of our ute for 18 months that only does track work, no road going, so bloody hard braking. I checked the rotors with a micrometer before fitting the Ultimates and the rotors were 23mm, when we took them coz we scrapped the ute the rotors were 22mm. 1mm in 18 months on a race track!!!
  13. See you all there then. An yes they can be pretty packed, but you normally always get heaps of track time.

  15. The reason for the squeal is because of the hard compounds they are made of, sometimes the only to stop them squealing is to go to slotted rotors, remember these are semi race brakes
  16. Get some expereince at Winton and other tracks, get trained, get known
  17. I am quite happy to speak on behalf of Winton, the race track will stay a race track. It will be business as usual, Winton and WP have shared the same racing philosophies for years.Winton (and now WP) is owned by Benalla Auto Club, just an ordinary fairly conservative RURAL car club like many others around Australia, this is not a bunch of corporate raiders Their belief is to bring AFFORDABLE motorsport back to the people, to take control of their own destiny. You wil be happy with the ownership and the way the place is managed.
  18. Have you worked as a marshal before? If not, you chances are NIL!
  19. Great news eh!

  21. Have you ever wanted to become a Volunteer Race Official/Marshal and get real close to the action, but never knew how to do it? It isn't that hard! Winton Raceway in North East Victoria is holding a training/information day on Sunday January 14th 2007 and all new comers are encouraged to attend. The day will cover all aspects of being a Race Official/Marshal. If you wish to attend please PM me and I will pass on your details to the track, or you can ring Heather at Winton Raceway on (03) 5766 4235 or you can email her at [email protected]
  22. Glad you had a great day, and yes it can be expensive. I was the Coordinator of the day. Normally my son and I run a car there, but we are in the process of building a new one so it was just me car-less. See you at the next one
  23. Those pics are a bit deceptive, most of the cars I saw were in the dirt - LOL
