Yea, the full turboback system. I'll post some pics up when i get my car tomorrow, with the dyno "before-and-after" results. (it's still stuck at the workshop...)
-
no, they're 5s instead of a 6s
-
okay, i'll ask him about it tomorrow. split hose!?! don't scare me! =_= but i really doubt that it's a mechanical fault, as i sent this car down for a pre-purchase inspection a few weeks ago, and it cleared except for an oil leak from the tappet covers, castor bushes which are about to split and spark plugs which are one heat range lower than they're supposed to be.
-
hmmm~ okay. i'll ask my mechanic about this tomorrow when i send my car down... it should go to 7 after 4500rpm?
-
yea, i've decided to go for a full xforce mild steel. getting it fitted tomorrow, probably will go for a dyno as well. can't wait to see how it goes! i'll think about better systems when it dies on me or if i really hate it... then you'll see an almost brand new xforce system on sale here poor university students gotta close one eye and grit their teeth when it comes to money... but at least we learnt something!
-
do you have the details of what was done during the conversion? my mate's looking for a sil80, but most of those he had seen were just bodykit conversions.
-
nismo cat back!?! damn! i want one! now i'm just waiting for my mechanic to call back. brisbane's mercury motorsports provides really good service!

Anyone know of a good place to get these parts? I only managed to find the BOS importing one around on the forum as a business trader. Justjap.com doesn't carry any of them...

Skyline R33 Series 2, Any Good?
shoebox replied to alphabeatsco's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
too heavy. -
Dyno results from my stock R33 GTS-T: Fuel consumption is about 10l/100km. Mine's an auto, so you should be able to get a better power output on a manual.
-
it should? i have no idea why... is it a configuration problem, or a mechanical fault?

Skyline R33 Series 2, Any Good?

Depends on what you want to do actually. I'll recommend a silvia (S15) for drifting, as a skyline is not really meant for that purpose. Well, it can, but there're so many cars which are better, like the S15, S14, maybe S13 and the FD3S (if you're rich enough). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D1_Grand_Prix Performance wise... it depends on how much money you're willing to throw at it. My stock r33 gts-t does 132.3kw on the dyno. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eM0M8ra4zFI What's your budget like? -
Ah, that explains everything. Thank you!

Okay, this is seriously a newbie question, but I have just put my new stock R33 GTS-T through a dyno to measure the initial power before any mods were done to it. Why is the max power only at 132kw instead of the 180kw which it was supposedly able to do in the official R33 specifications? No wonder it felt kinda slow. Kinda dissapointed and can't wait to fit some mods.

This configuration sounds good! Maybe i'll go for the mild steel version of this. If i still have the car when the mild steel exhaust gives up, i'll just upgrade it to a better one ^_^ I was actually thinking of getting a HKS system but... they're too expensive! Sad. Edit: Wait. This is legal in QLD and VIC, right? I don't wanna get hauled in for emission or noise level and get defected.
-
lol! maybe i didn't really notice until recently
-
I've heard from the mechanic that mild steel is pretty good unless you damage or scratch it by going over bumps... when that happens, servicing would be necessary to prevent rusting/etc... the exhaust is a pretty impt upgrade, which is why i'm really torn between these two options! but i'm really wondering if the performance difference is that great to justify the costs?
-
Yea, these training programs look good! I'll probably attend them during the summer or something to learn a thing or two about car control. One thing though, i don't understand why everyone is so against the HICAS system. I'm cornering much better with it!

Recently, there's this burgundy R33 frequenting Margaret Street at Brisbane City. There seems to be more and more skylines around!

Which turboback exhaust system would you go for? According to the CES brochure, their exhausts are able to produce a 40+kw gain from stock, and the stainless steel system includes silver ceramic coated mild steel twin dump pipe (coated inside/out) and stainless steel pipework. I haven't checked out the XForce yet, but according to comments from this forum, it really does look not bad. The CES is like twice the price, and with that price difference, I could do a lot of other stuff! http://www.xforce.com.au/ http://www.cesracing.com.au/ Anyone used any of these systems before? What do you think about it?

Yea, maybe i should attend some defensive driving course first, then start practicing on some wide open area or something. I have no problem keeping to my lane on windy roads, but its the 180 hairpin turns and 90 degree corners which i have no confidence in (like that route up to natural bridge cave at gold coast). I'm also pretty new to FR cars, as i have always been driving FF cars (although i haven't been doing any serious cornering to really feel the difference yet). I'll check out SDT for the time being ^_^
-
ah.. thanks! I just joined sau, so i'm pretty new to all this...

Looks like i'm the only one voting for the 350 "poser car" so far... But if it's for the road, 350rwhp is pretty good already, given that there aren't many road cars out there with more than 300. Not to mention, you'll save fuel, and feel much better in a comfortable car with a solid sound system when you're stuck in the city traffic.
-
While i was going down the pacific highway today, it suddenly struck me that anyone can barrel down a straight road, but it'll take considerable skill to be able to handle corners and turns quickly (like hairpin turns ). Not to mention, avoiding dangers which may suddenly arise on the roads too (like something falling off the back of a truck which is in front of you). Are there any places which teach advanced driving techniques near brisbane? I've always felt that i don't have sufficient driving knowledge to make full use of my car...

Has anyone done, or thought of converting their R33 from a manual or 4-speed auto to a 5-speed auto transmission? Is this even possible (are there any ECU limitations?), and how much would it cost? I kinda miss my 5-speed auto car from back home... its engine has a lower RPM when cruising.
