I would assume so, I did change the timing belt and both pulleys a few months ago..... It has been slightly noisy ever since though..... wonder if that had anything to do with it. Would that explain the running on less than 6 cylinders, over heating and the leaking of water? Thanks for everyones input by the way. I guess I really just need to roll up my sleaves and get out in the garage and start pulling it to bits.

Will do. It was hot water I put into it, luckily my dad was able to assist and bring it to me

Yep, thats my first step, I will get started on the weekend I wonder what may have caused though. It had been running a bit hot over the past few months (not too servere though), I knew the radiator was in bad shape. Ironically a new triple core alloy radiator had arrived for it on the same day it died. The other thing was I was only running premium 95 RON fuel in it (Perth had some servere storms and every BP I went to was either shutdown or only had limited fuel available), but I was not thrashing it too much it because of the crappy fuel, and I was watching for knock and it was not too bad either.

My engine died last night in my R34 GT-T. Basically I was driving along and suddenly I noticed it was not running on all cylinders, it was running REALLY rough. Anyway I thought (hoped) a coilpack or something had died and that I could just baby it home, but then after a couple of minutes the temp started to go up (a little - was watching on the PFC screen). I could not pull over so I continued to baby it, but then it just started to skyrocket. I pulled straight over in a dangerous location and turned the car off. It was a really bad place to stop (basically a freeway off ramp) so i started it again as I only had to get it about another 100m's to park safetly. It started OK and I drove it and shut off the engine as soon as I could. When I stopped the PFC read 115 degree's for water temp. I noticed a trail of water behind the car also, not sure if this was just radiator overflow or something more serious. I left it for about an 45 minutes when help arrived. They brought water so I topped up the radiator (it had lost water, but it took less than 1 litre), then went to try and start it it, and instantly it made a horrible "siezing" kind of noise and would not turn over. I have not inspected it further, but I am thinking it could be one of the following: 1) Blown head gasket, and maybe one of the cylinders have filled with water hence why it will now not even turn over. 2) Something wrong in the bottom end 3) Both... Any idea's / thoughts??? Stupid cars!! Sometimes I wish I just had a normal econo shitbox like everyone else.

The Stock R34 I Purchased May Not Be All That Stock ?
JustinP replied to maddowse's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
My R34 boost gauge is just like that, not like the one in the picture. Contrary to popular opinion, my one is also very accurate. I have tested it against my PFC boost controller output on the hand controller, and on another mechanical gauge and they all read the same. It is however very unreliable! It only works about 10% of the time! -
Rda Vs Dba Slotted Rotors
JustinP replied to crazy.mofo's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I have DBA 4000XS rotor's on my R34 GT-t. -
Thanks for that, I must have been looking at the right thing, and it probably look different because they gave me the wrong part!! Maybe it's the R33 part. I guess it's just a filter, it will probably work anyway. Anyway thanks

This is a dumb question, but where would I find the fuel filter on my R34 GT-t?! I bought a new one and I can't find anything in the engine bay that looks similar. There is something attached to the drivers side suspension tower which appears to have a fuel line going into / out of it, but it doesn't look like what I have bought. The part number of the replacement fuel filter I got from Nissan is 16400-41B1A. Any help greatly appreciated!!!

Factory rev limit is 6900.

I found a good cheap boost controller for $22!!!

If you are reaching a higher level of boost compared to stock then of course it will take longer to reach maximum boost! I can't beleive this thread is still going! -
How Long Has Your Stock Timing Belt Lasted
JustinP replied to boostn0199's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I replaced my belt the other day, along with the idler and tensioner. Car had done 100,200km's. I got a Dayco timing belt kit which included everything just mentioned, plus cam and crank seals, however i didnt fit these. I didnt replace my water pump at the same time, i hope that holds up! -
Can I ask you a question - do you think it is worth taking off the clutch fan? Did it make much difference to the way the engine revs etc? I changed my timing belt the other day and discvered my radiator was screwed (which will explain my high temps on hot days). So basically I am going to get a 40mm triple core radiator, and I wias thinking while I was at that I would like to get a thermo fan to replace the clutch fan. I know a thermo fan is not match for the clutch fan, but I was thinking if i could somehow keep the shroud and made a thermo fan fit within it it just might cool the radiator sufficiently. Would be nice to get that reciprocating mass out of the loop

I had a bad experience taking my car to Pedders. I would avoid them at all costs!!
-
Yep you ned to remove the timing belt to get to it. I replaced my timing belt yesterday - its a fairly straightforward job, I would estimate about 4 hours to do it all.
-
Is that true that the PFC pulls timing if temps get over 90C?! My R34 consistantly runs in the 90's during summer since I installed a FMIC. I pulled out my radiator yesterday in the process of replacing the timing belt, and discovered it was in very poor condition with many bent fins... Might explain things! In any case if it pulls timing I think I need to look at getting a new radiator.

R33 Gtst Smic Upgrade To R34 Smic - Results (video & Pics)

I have a spare R34 SMIC, I should sell it! -
Unfortunately I have never seen a Japanese car with quality leather, including top end Lexus models. I just dont know why the leather never matches what you get in a lower end BMW or Mercedes. And after a few years leather in Japanese always ends up looking shocking! I don't know how they can engineer cars so well, and build things so well, but always mess up on things like that.

I saw (and sat in) some Spec V's a few weeks ago. Ginza Nissan showroom had one, and there were two at the nearby Nissan dealership. Very nice. The interior at the back looks a bit funny with the missing seats as its just covered in some kind of cloth (i think you could actually seat two in them if you really tried) - but thats the intention i guess as its supposed to be stripped down.

I was at the Nissan Oppama plant the other day, and they have also cut production in half for all cars, down to about 600 cars per day. They are reducing supply to clear up old inventory, despite having more orders than are currently being produced. I did see well over 100 LHD GTR's parked at the Oppama port ready for shipment to the US though!! As well as 100's (maybe over 1000) 370Z's!

Hi A while ago (more than a year ago hehe) when fitting a new dump pipe, the installer snapped one of the bolts on the back of the turbo, resulting in an exhaust leak. This has recently gotten a LOT louder, and tomorrow I am having a friend of a friend who is a mechanic pull off the turbo, fix the snapped bolt, and then put it back together. My question is should I purchase a new gasket/s to suit, and or new bolts from Nissan before he starts this? Do most Nissan dealers stock these parts? Oh by the way its an R34 GT-T that we are talking about here. Also, will he need to drain the oil when pulling it off? Thanks!!

I can not believe how bad that show was. It made me so embarrassed to be an Australian. The hosts were awful, and that main guy.... Oh my god... I can't believe after him reviewing the footage of himself he didn’t threaten to kill himself if they didn’t destroy it. I can not believe what a wanker he is. They don't seem to know shit about cars, the "stig" can't drive, and the editing.... I cannot believe how bad and how fake it is! Do they think they can get away with it?! Appalling...

Nitrous is ghey.

Also don't buy cheap shitty O2 sensors. I was getting shitty fuel consumption ages ago and brought one off eBay that was compatible for about $30. It did work (kinda) according to the PFC, but fuel economy didn't improve. Then after a few months it stopped working all together. I recently brought a geniune Nissan one now I'm getting 50-70 more k's per tank. Still only getting about 340-350 with mostly city driving. I might take it somewhere else to get the tune touched up to try and improve economy some more.
