I found a good cheap boost controller for $22!!!
JustinP replied to CEF11E's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I ordered one of these from Ebay weeks ago - still have not received it! Now I'm just thinking of getting an EBC anyway... PS - I have since received it - looks good. Kind of wishing I had gone down the EBC path now though as I have also brought an autometer boost gauge to use with it and am having trouble finding a good spot for it. R34's need more space around the dash!!!! -
Hi - I have an R34 GTT and yesterday I installed a BOS importing split dump / front pipe and a catco metal high flow cat. Anyway one bolt broke off in the back of the turbo A person who was helping me tried to get it out but couldnt as we didnt have a right angle air drill small enough to get into the space (he started drilling into the actual turbo housing itself ) Anyway I said to leave it for now and jammed lots of exhaust cement stuff in there. Didnt really work as it now has a slight leak which was to be expected. Anyway I was just wondering, until I can get this fixed, will the leak impact on performance at all? Also is there any other problems I might face (other than the extra noise which is currently not too bad)? Thanks!

Excellent - thanks guys. I can always rig up a water spray system for hotter days if there is a problem.

Just how much better is the stock R34 SMIC over the R33 and R32 ones? I have an R34 and I am planning to get it to about 200rwkw and leave it at that - will it be safe enough to run the the factory item? I would rather not get a FMIC if possible.
-
So will that harness plug straight inbetween the ECU and wiring loom, ie no splicing of wires required at all?
-
Damn it - looks like I will need to invest in a proper immobiliser or alarm. I just want the standard factory key with buttons though, I have having the extra button fob things... I actually got the remote starting to work!!! I just had to flick the 3rd dip switch. Trouble is it keeps running the starter motor. In some of my reading on the unit (theres next to nothing in english on it) it seems there is an option that should fix this so it just gets it started then stops the starter. Will need some jap translated I think. Will be handy for warming the car up in the morning as I am always late for work and tend to drive it a bit harder than I should when its cold.

I don't suppose anyone has any pics of this grommet location?

I was just looking around the on the floor of my R34 and I noticed this little box? Any ideas on what exactly it is?! My research seems to indicate a turbo timer even though this does not work as far as I can tell. Also we got the remote in the last picture with the car and had no idea what it was for (car was straight from Japan). I guess it might be for remote starting of the car? Also I was sure all R34's came standard with an immobiliser security system but mine doesn't seem to have one, I wonder if it was disabled in order to get the remote starting to work? I have no idea, will ask some people who can read Japanese properly. Weird!

Screw it, think I will just try and find a PFC then...
-
The Ultimate is still a piggyback ECU, just a very comprehensive one. I'm thinking I might give the actual installation a go as I am pretty handy with that kind of thing, and it looks pretty straightforward as long as you take you time and make sure you have it all done right before you power it all up. Then tuning shouldn't cost as much as a PFC tune (I don't think). I don't know maybe I will wait a while and see what happens in regards to a new model PFC, or maybe I will come across a second had one cheaply (doubt that though).

Damn it, the only grommet I can find in that area is right up near the top of the bonnet and that only goes into the area next to the wipers, not through the firewall. You sure there is a grommet near the steering rack on an R34?
-
I am about to install a boost gauge into my R34 GTT. Can anyone recommend the best place to get though the firewall on an R34?
-
Excellent - thanks for that

Just out of interest what is oil pressure is normal for a warmed up car? Mine runs at just over 2 bar when its warm, much higher when its cold. Is this OK?
-
Car is a manual. Yep I aware I could still get a PFC if I tried and I know it would be the better solution, but ultimately as I was originally just looking at getting an SAFC I think the E-Manage is the better option. With the prices of PFC's now for an R34 plus tuning I would be looking at a total of around 2k. Also I have looked further into the differences between the Ultimate and the Blue version - I think it will be worth getting the Ultimate and missing our of the Profec E-01 compatability. Now what do people think tuning costs might be for the E-Manage? I am assuming it will be less than a full tune with a PFC as really only the fuel and timing maps will need to done - is this correct? Thanks

I have been needing a solution for my AFR's for a while now and while I could get something like a SAFC I have figured I might as well spend a bit more and get something a bit more comprehensive. The control over timing and the removal of other ECU limits will be useful. Was looking at the Power FC's but now as their not readily available I have been looking at the GReddy E-Manage. I just wanted to know, is it work getting the Ultimate version? What are the useful extra features over the Basic model? The thing is for me, besides the extra cost of the Ultimate, the Basic version can also be interfaced to the E-01 boost controller screen which might be useful to me if I get one down the track (if I can find a good location for the huge thing in the cabin ) Any advice would be greatly appreciated

It's effective, but not a good idea on the street!!! Just get a proper high flowing cat.

High Flow Cat Installed In Reverse!
JustinP replied to Primordial's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I have a Catco Metal high flow cat and it doesn't have any directional markings on it at all! -
Yer I guess the RB25's all do "tick" a bit. Maybe I'm just being paranoid about it Will stop worrying now.
-
Cool, actually I thought I had heard somebody say that, same as the GTR. So what could the noise be? Maybe it is just the injectors, but it is kinda loud sometimes.
-
Yep I get a noise too which sounds like the hydraulic lifters (louder than the ticking of the injectors) on my R34 GTT. Hope it's nothing to worry about, it's only done about 67,000 k's.

Thanks for the pics! That thing is huge! Don't know if I could fit it down low in front of the ashtray It's quite thick too. -

No I think it is only compatable with the original blue E-Manage, this has been confirmed by two different people who sell them. I would love to be proved wrong though as it is the only thing stopping me from going and ordering one right now! Pics would be much appreciated
