Thats the way they work!! You put a bigger turbo on, you get more lag, more power, more lag, nothing in the world will stop this from happening!! Cams will give you better mid range and bring boost on a little earlier but not by much. My RB20 runs a HKS2530 and it behaves exactly how it should, boost is on by 4000rpm and rises to 18-20psi. Goes like a dream. Maybe you were expecting something else. I have never seen a big power turbo make boost below 1000rpm, that is total crap!!! The HKS internal wastegates are second to none. If you think you can improve on them good luck!! You must run a boost controller on these turbos and they need to be dyno tuned. Bleed valve is only $50. Come on now and get serious, I cannot believe some of the rubbish that is posted..

I agree with Slide..!! You really don't need cams for power on a stock motor. Cams will give you a better mid range and a little more top end but is big $$$$ for small gain. Really only for track applications. I have used parts from Slide before and can recommend him for quality, value, security and prompt service. No one can catch my R32 at the track and no cams required. (yet)..!! Pulls 1.10's at wakefield. Grippy...

It's your call, it's your money! R32's are cheaper if your willing to work on it and learn from it. R33's cost more and will still need to be worked on but maybe not as much. How common is a R33 compared to a R32?? Do you want to be the same or a little different.? They both go like the clappers and both love upgrades. R33 has a better manual gearbox, (stronger).. R32 rev's harder for longer... My advise would be to look at every car you can and crawl under each one to see how many km's they have actually done. You will be able to tell a high km's car from low if you look long and hard enough. Never beleive the what's on the clock.!!!! Some are genuine some are not.... Personally I love the R32...But that don't matter a pinch of sh_t. My R32 sleeps very well, believe me.. Happy searching..

If you plan to tune it and leave it you can't go past Dr Drift stock ECU re-map. My car is re-mapped and I could not be happier. Very cost efficient. R32 $700. Silvia about $1000 that includes dyno time and tuning of course. Note: can only be done to silvia's and R32. If R33 need a power FC I see you have R33..?? My pick is power FC, if unable to source one nowdays Haltech now make awesome plug in ECU's. If budget and manhours are no object of course MOTEC is the only way to go.

89 R32 Gtst Running Probs.... Plz Help Desperate!
grippy replied to BOOSTA's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I put money on it that it is your ECU. There is a series of actions you can perform to reset your ECU to factory settings. Do a search you should be able to find it. If not let me know as I can find out. Grippy. -
Doubt very much it would be the cam gear. Do any of you guys run after market blow off valves?? I had the same issue with my RB20 after upgrades. The big problem for me was the standard blow off valve was no longer venting back into the inlet pipe just before the turbo inlet. This was because I had a custom inlet pipe made. I had to remove the inlet pipe, have it modified so it could take a pipe from the blow off valve. It now still idles a little rough but only very slight. Before it was stalling and very rough. The position of the AFM is also very critical to stop inlet pulse. I had to move mine further away also. Grippy

No it cannot be battery power. You car will run with the battery removed. Start it up and try it out, pull the battery leads off and she keeps humming. Grippy.

Servicing Gear Box And Diff
grippy replied to DjeMz's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I would think that the R33 box oil qty is similar to R32. Can't be sure though as I don't have a 33. Maybe slightly more but 5ltrs should do it. -

Just jap have them in stock. Use genuine only. I think the above price is about right. Check to make sure they sell you the right one, some are a straight filter (no bends) and the other has a 90deg bend off the top of the filter. Check your current one.!! They sell the wrong parts all the time. Grippy. -
Get a HKS turbo kit from Nengun. Hassle free installation, everything fits!! Fantastic power upgrade. Great value approx $2200 delivered. I would be looking at a GTRS. I just installed a Nengun HKS GT2530 kit on RB20 and I get 220rwk @18psi with moderate tune. Goes like shit off a shovel!! Grippy.

Count me in 100%. Try to break into the 1.09's with the GTS-t. Will have transponder timing I hope.?? Grippy.

White smoke, water, oil. Head gasket is first guess, maybe cracked head, possibly cracked block but being an RB20 I doubt it. Really need to look at it otherwise it is all just guess work. Pull the head off as it has to come off regardless. Then you will know!!! Grippy..

Servicing Gear Box And Diff
grippy replied to DjeMz's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Just serviced my R32 GTS-t gearbox and diff. I used Redline shockproof gear oil, expensive but the best. Can't remember the weight, I think 40w. On the R32 I needed 2 liters for the gearbox and 2.5 liters for the diff. This sucks as they sell the redline in 4 liter bottle. I topped up .5 ltr with motul gear oil from 1 ltr bottle. Unless you have a hoist it is a bitch of a job!! I took mine to a mech friend and they did both gearbox and diff for $35 as I supplied oil. My diff was super noisy and is on the way out but much better now with new oil. It's not worth the drama of lying on the floor with gear oil in your face for $40. Fuel filter is a throw away item. I replace mine every 10000kms. No inspection or cleaning possible as sealed unit. I think you can leave them for 30000kms. Hope this helps. Grippy... -
Fiberglass Custom Bonnet
grippy replied to BRUNSKIGTST's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
You can buy a new GTR fibreglass bonnet for $500!! I think you are reaching a bit. -
Sounds like you have FC disease! Try moving your AFM further away from the turbo inlet. You have upset the delicate nissan design/tune by running more boost, fuel etc. Air is bouncing from the turbo inlet causing a pulse effect to the AFM and the ECU cannot compensate quickly of finely enough at idle. When your A/C comes on the idle is increased enough that airflow is more stable across the AFM. This is very common with mildly upgraded RB's. Will always idle a little rough with 500cc injectors but can be minimised to be very slight. Clean your aac valve and idle screw also, this may help. Cycle your idle screw full range of adjustment when cleaning also. Rgds, Grippy

Top RB20 Club... do you have over 260rwkw?
grippy replied to RBsileighty's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Stock RB20DET internals, HKS 2530 turbo, 550cc injectors, fuel pump, dump/xorst, fmic. Pulls 220 rwkw on dyno and blows 6.0 ltr SS holdens off the track. Runs 18psi boost all day long. Dyno report attached. Rgds, Grippy. -
Anyone keen for Eastern Creek track day this Saturday 24/02/07. This is ARDC practice day and will need CAMS level 2 speed licence. We have about 5 cars going already. Hope to see you all there. Rgds, Grippy

Thank for the photos and time estimates. See you there next time. Black R32 GTS-t belongs to me. Pretty stock but goes like the clappers. Rgds, Grippy

I ended up getting new plugs from Repco. Part no. BK402 and these are a perfect fit. Cost about $16 for a pack of 2. Just crimped them on, now it's sweet. Just have to wire in the resistor pack and I 'm good to go. Rgds, Grippy.

I know the mystery box is a resistor of some sort. Just need to find out what for. I have a wiring diagram but it's not complete. So not much help. Grippy..

I am upgrading my injectors to low impedance/ hi flow on my R32GTST/RB20DET and I have a GTR resistor pack to be fitted. What I'm not sure of, is if the RB20DET has a stock resistor pack that needs to be removed/left alone? Does it have a resistor pack at all from stock?? I've noticed the small silver box mounted near the power steering reservoir, mounted on a bracket of it's own, with two wires down to a cannon plug. Looks very much like a resistor pack?? Can anyone identify this box?? Rgds, Grippy..

After being to just jap today I have found that the GTR is the only harness with the same plugs as the large capacity/ low impedance injectors so if you plan on throwing in GTR injectors you will have the same plug issue. Almost impossible to get a hold of GTR plugs as they do not want to seperate from the harness. (fair enough!) Repco sounds like the go, thanks for the tips. Be warned if anyone else is planning to put GTR injectors or aftermarket upgrade injectors in you will have to change the plugs. I found that RB25 plugs are different again to both the RB20 and GTR. CA18 seems to carry the necessary plugs for the conversion. Only going on what I saw at just jap today. I am aware of the resistor pack needed, to change from 14ohms to 2.5ohms. Rgds, Grippy.

My plugs from my harness that connect to my stnadard injectors will not fit the keyway on any of the "direct fit" upgrade injectors! Is it mandatory to replace the electrical connectors/plugs on the RB20DET when you upgrade the injectors? Will the plugs from a RB25/26 fit the upraded injectors? All the injectors I have seen and also the ones I have will not direct fit onto the standard plugs?? This includes Nismo/Sard and Bosch. The standard keyway/ locator is offset and all the larger injectors are center keyways/ locators and are on both top and bottom, standard only on the top. Any advice appreciated.?? Grippy.
