Suspension Problem
wonkynutz replied to sky-017's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I've recently put these in and they're fookin awesome shocks. Mind you at 600 a pair just for the shocks they'd want to be, but they're worth it. -
What Is The Weight Of Air In A Tyre?
wonkynutz replied to predator's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Close, but no cigar. The "deflated" tyre will still contain air at atmospheric pressure. The correct way of doing it is:1/ Weigh tyre. 2/ Weigh wheel. 3/ Add 1 and 2 to get weight of tyre and wheel combo. 4/ Fit tyre to wheel. Inflate tyre to desired pressure. Weigh. 5/ Subtract 4 from 3 to get weight of air in tyre. 5/ Smoke cigar. Get lung cancer. -
Update: found out the Metalcast "Smoke" and the Mirage series of paints are not currently imported into Australia. The distributor has no plans to bring them in. CBF'ed basically. So I thought to meself "Fu(k you clowns" and went higher up the food chain. If anyone is interested in any of the Dupli-Color products that aren't available in Oz send me a PM.

Will check up with Toll re shipping. If they'll do it my way and you still have some left then I'm in.
-
Yep, that's the tyre. Rated for 270 k's and two and a half tonnes of taxi. More info: http://www.dunloptyres.com.au/TyreDetailAc...p;from=nPerPage Here Crazy J, I'm doing your job for ya.You owe me some free tyres.
-
What's Dunlop's policy on them? Still kosher for road use or are we on our own if something goes wrong? What about legality? Yeah I've seen the pic. Just making sure my arse is gonna be covered before I think about parting with cash.
-
Oi dude, can see ya lurking. How's about if I sort with Toll to pick up the tyres? All you gotta do is tie a bit of string around four of the buggers. Can't be too hard. So, exactly what sort of Dunlop SP Sport are they? I've been checking and there are several different tyres under that heading, ranging from AP3000's to Maxx's. Which ones you got? Are they seconds or top notch?

Pick up only??? No freighty freighty?? Keen for some if I can get em shipped somehow.

What Is The Weight Of Air In A Tyre?
wonkynutz replied to predator's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Hey this is awesome. So if we evacuate our tyres teh cars will handle better coz of less unsprung weight. :sorcerer: -
There is but it's atmo, not turbo. Oh yeah, also it's "would have" not "would of". Bloody schools these days....
-
Very cool. Respraying my one is gonna have to wait, dammit.

Woz thinking about maybe rims and a few bit and pieces. Sorta decided Mirage rims might not be so good on a standard looking car though. Would look like a rat with a gold tooth. Better suited to a show car. Currently thinking the Metalcast Smoke would be a good thing. Car is standard burgundy colour (whatever Nissan call it). Rims are white, which aint a good look on a dark red car.

Turbo Timer Newbie Question
wonkynutz replied to Rob_C110GTR's topic in General Automotive Discussion
That's your problem right there. Disable the silly thing. No kidding. -
Yup. 14 it is. Put a strut brace on my jalopy the othe day. Should be pretty easy to do. If you're rounding them try WD40 like t'other dude said and make sure you have the right socket. Get a brand new one. If you were using a 14 and rounding the nuts it's possible that either it's an old worn socket or a crap brand that doesn't fit properly. Either that or you just had the wrong size.
-
Oh righty then. Mirage is this stuff: http://www.dupli-color.com/products/mirage.html Found out Autobarn in Tweed don't deal with Dupli Colour but Auto One does. Mind you teh Metalcast looks kinda flash too. Might use "Smoke" colour on a set of rims.
-
Cool. I'm going past Autobarn this morning so I'll check. What did you paint with it and how did it come out? I saw some comments on the DupliColor site (US) which said it didn't work as well as it was supposed to. Other guys seemed rapt.
-
Guys, the BOV has already gone. Cheers.
-
Anyone tried this stuff? Bonza or crap? Know who sells it around Coolangatta?

Got a genuine HKS sequential with RB adaptor that I don't want. Was on the car when I got it. Could do with a bit of a polish but it works fine. I changed back to the stocky as it pissed me off hearing the valve every time I backed off.
-
Sounding good. Looky, if they're sitting in your shed have a look on the back of one of the rims. There should be a stamp or casting saying ET15 or ET83 or whatever. The two numbers after "ET" are the offset. It'll either be on the inside of the rim or the back of one of the spokes. Handy to know when you're buying or selling rims. People usually want to know. I know what I need to clear the guards after I fit the camber correction kit to the rear. The current 9's clear now but correcting the camber means they won't. Excess camber bad. Right camber good. Cheers.
-
Might be interested. Couple of questions for ya. First up, are they all eight inches wide. Reason I ask is because lots of guys run 8's front and 9's rear, which is fine on a T but not so good on a 4. Stuffs with the Atessa a bit even if you're running the same size tyres front and back. Second question, do you know the offset? Number three, do they clear the stock calipers without spacers? Number four, any rash on them? They look good in the pics. Not fussed if the white paint is scratched. That'd be going anyway. Only worried about the metal. Cheers.

Well I finally got the shocks, springs and front swaybar in yesterday. Then I started bucketing down rain so we knocked off (were working outside dammit). Will drop in the rear bar and subframe bushes at the weekend, then tee up with Fulcrum to do the rest of the bushes and wheel alignment. Took the car for a good spin this afternoon and was mightily impressed. Even with the standard camber and castor settings and the stock rear bar this kit is good. Damned good. We have some gnarly roads in my neck of the woods as the local council just keeps putting patches on patches. Some of the bumps have been here for twenty years. No kidding. The Bilsteins cope effortlessly with both multiple small ripples and big bumps. Ride is firm but not nasty. I highly recommend this kit to anyone trying to make up their mind. One thing to watch out for when ordering for a GTS4 is to check your rear shocks. My car had the rear suspension uprights changed to GTR units at some point in its life, which caused some headaches for both me and Gary as I wasn't aware of this when I ordered my kit. GTS4's usually use GTS-t shocks at the rear. So, do yourself and Gary a favour and have a look if you're not sure about your car. The standard GTS4 has rear shocks with an eye at the bottom and the GTR ones have a fork on them. Apparently some guys change the uprights because there's a greater range of stuff for GTR's. If yours have been changed you just get the GTR kit instead of the GTS4 kit.

You can repair carbon (they do it on boats) but the repair will be visible unless you paint it.
